The current Heineken commercial with Benicio del Toro provides a great excuse to revive this thread. Here's the catchy 1969 backing track: Barabajagal - Donovan

Which Dukes of Hazzard Character Are You?
HossC replied to MrsRosco1996's topic in General Discussion
I see you left the "In spite of your vices..." question blank in Boss' section. Does this mean that you don't have standards and do wish to directly harm others? -
Are there Hazzardnet T-shirts?
HossC replied to Mark B / Scooter Davenport's topic in General Discussion
They were announced nearly five years ago - see here. The link is still working, so they may still be available. Here's one of the designs: -
Yet another masterpiece in the making .

Welcome to HNet, Mrs Rosco. You've just reminded me how long it is since I watched my way through all the seasons of Dukes. I'll try to squeeze some in when I finish the boxset I'm on at the moment .

Daisy's 1971 (Satellite) and 1974 Roadrunnner colors?
HossC replied to Boss JD Hogg's topic in The HazzardNet Garage
The first site I checked only listed Yellow Blaze for 1974. Another site I checked, after posting, showed Sunfire Yellow as well, but it didn't look bright enough to make it worth editing my original post. I've just found a page at junkyardlife.com which concerns the finding of a lookalike for Daisy's first car in a junkyard. It starts: "I did a double take the moment I laid eyes on this Blaze Yellow (paint code KY5) Mopar in a rural Oneonta, Alabama junkyard. It looked exactly like the Plymouth Road Runner that Daisy Duke drove during parts of the first two seasons of “The Dukes of Hazzard” TV series." -
Welcome back, Jami Lee.

Daisy's 1971 (Satellite) and 1974 Roadrunnner colors?
HossC replied to Boss JD Hogg's topic in The HazzardNet Garage
The 1974 Roadrunner must've been Yellow Blaze, as it's the only yellow in Chrysler-Plymouth's options for that year. In 1971, there were two yellows available: Curious Yellow and Banana Yellow. They look very different on paper, but when I Googled pictures of both, I found it hard to decide. -
The first line is from 'Route 7-11"in season 1,and the second line is from "The Meeting" in season 2.

Nice work, Andrew. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I've stayed out of this debate because I'm one of those private type of persons that Spike was talking about, so I've never had a Facebook account. Facebook is so big and powerful that they can pretty much do what they like with the stuff you post and the information you give them, and that's why they want you to join. Regarding the real name policy, you can read Facebook's own page on the subject here. You can use nicknames, but, as I understand it, your profile would be headed "Your Real Name (RogerDuke)". Facebook's real name policy is unpopular with a lot of people. Besides those who want to use nicknames and screen names, the policy also creates huge problems for Native Americans, and they don't want the Irish population using the Irish version of their names. A couple of years ago Facebook also blocked residents of a townland called Effin in Co Limerick, Ireland from using their own address. In that case, Facebook eventually gave in - see here. The Wikipedia article about the real name controversy is here. In the end, I always come back to this cartoon:

'Orange Clunker Car' - MPC General Lee Build - FINISHED
HossC replied to Boss JD Hogg's topic in Hobbies
I've enjoyed following this build, so I'm almost sad it's finished . What a great job you've done! -
I saw most of the 'Dega race, and that was some crash at the end. I had to miss this week's race because the time difference meant that it started at about 12:40 am .

According to Wikipedia: Branigan died in her sleep at her lodge in East Quogue, New York, on August 26, 2004. The cause was attributed to a previously undiagnosed ventricular brain aneurysm. It was reported in the media that she had been experiencing headaches for several weeks before her death but did not seek medical attention. I don't know if her death was widely reported at the time. I only found out a couple of years ago.

According to Wikipedia, NASCAR only permits six crew members "over the wall". The same article also defines the roles in an F1 pit crew. I'm paraphrasing here: 1 x Lollipop man - holds a stop/go sign for the driver. Now mainly replaced by electronically triggered traffic lights. 4 x Tyre changers - one for each wheel, their sole job is to undo/tighten the wheel nuts. 8 x Tyre carriers - at each wheel, there is one to remove the old tyre and one to fit the new one. 2 x Stabilisers - to keep the car level in the middle. 1 x Front wing man - adjusts the angle of the front wing (one of the only changes that can be made during pit stops. 2 x Jack men - one at the front, one at the rear. Some teams even have a spare in case of jack failure. 1 x Fire extinguisher man - even though there's no refuelling, they occasionally get brake or oil fires. 1 x Starter man - stands at the rear just in case the engine stalls (the drivers cannot restart their cars). That adds up to around 20 crew members. Unlike NASCAR, there's only one pit crew per team, so each crew has to service two cars, meaning that they sometimes have to make the cars queue behind each other (e.g. during a safety car period etc.). Teams can also be fined for an "unsafe release" if they release their car into the path of another.

Thanks for joining in, Hobie. This thread wasn't meant to be just obituaries, but that's how it's been this year. Sadly, Laura Branigan died back in 2004 at only 47. She never appeared in Dukes, but she did play the part of a singer called Sarah in a final season episode of 'CHiPs'. I just picked this one because I heard it on TV last night. Gloria - Laura Branigan

Another day of 2016 with a death in the music business. This time it's Billy Paul. To keep with the theme of the thread, I'll start with a track I'm not so familiar with. Malorie - Billy Paul And now, probably his best-known hit. Me And Mrs Jones - Billy Paul

Just to add to my last post, here's the Williams F1 team getting the fastest pit stop of the year so far at the Bahrain Grand Prix. I know they're allowed more crew than NASCAR, and there's no refuelling, but they change all four wheels in 2.27 seconds.

I haven't caught up with all of this year's rule changes, but on the face of it, that one sounds stupidly dangerous. In F1, they now use wheels with a single captive nut in the center. I don't know if there's a good reason why NASCAR can't switch to a similar system - it would speed up pit stops!

The big name music deaths of 2016 seem to continue unabated. I've just heard that Prince has died at only 57 years old. It looks like he kept his music off of most of the popular video sharing sites, but you can view this song at the link below. Kiss - Prince http://videos.sapo.pt/EOZ8Gf4YMhE84vVKER0l
