  1. Thanks for the results, Garrett. I made it to nearly half distance before I had to call it a night (I already had my alarm set for the Japanese Grand Prix at 2 AM ET). I've just had a quick look through the lap-by-lap guide, and it looks like I didn't miss much action. I bet you enjoyed seeing the top four spots taken by Hendricks' cars near the beginning. It's a shame that Kyle Larson had to drop out - he was doing really well when I left it.

Last night I watched an interesting program about the early days of synthesizer music in Britain. One of the bands mentioned was Yazoo (known as Yaz in the US), formed when Vince Clarke left Depeche Mode and teamed up Alison Moyet. This is one of my favorite tracks of theirs. After checking out several videos on YouTube, I came across this live version that I'd never heard before. I really shows off Alison's vocals well. Situation - Yazoo "] In case anyone's interested, the whole 90-minute BBC documentary called 'Synth Britannia' is also on YouTube - you can see it .
  3. In case y'all have missed them, JRW has been busy imagining what some of the patrol cars from Dukes would look like today. The link above wasn't initially showing up in the post, so when I figured out that it was hidden in there somewhere, I asked Mufn to fix it. It seemed like a fun idea, so I had a go myself. I started with a Chevy Caprice, and just put the standard decals on it: Then I tried a bit of updating: Finally, I couldn't resist doing a couple of Dodge Chargers:

    NASCAR news

I know he's been arrested and charged, but I didn't read anywhere that he's been convicted. You and NASCAR seem pretty convinced about his guilt, yet "although the Constitution of the United States does not cite it explicitly, presumption of innocence is widely held to follow from the 5th, 6th, and 14th amendments." - Wikipedia. If he's guilty, then obviously I wouldn't condone his behavior, and NASCAR should probably impose some kind of punishment, but let's wait until we know the facts/verdict.
  5. I usually have at least six or seven windows open, and only restart my computer about once a week, so I rarely see my desktop. Consequently, it's been the same for ages. It's an arty shot of a Mitchell Gyro Dec turntable. When I was a teenager, this was on my dream list for the ultimate hi-fi system. They were well out of my price range, but I loved the clear base and polished cylinders. Mitchell is actually an engineering company rather than a hi-fi company, and still produce the Gyro Dec today. They now cost $2000-3000 - more info here. I also remember its appearance in a cereal commercial at about the same time:

In other motorsport news: Last week Garrett reported on Dario Franchitti's horrendous crash at the Houston Grand Prix. He broke two vertebrae in his spine, two ribs and an ankle, but was released from hospital yesterday. Dario still faces a second operation on his ankle, but said he was "overwhelmed by the outpouring of support". You can read more here. Sadder news from Spain today: F1 reserve driver María de Villota was found dead in her hotel this morning. Last year María was involved in a crash during testing in which she received head injuries and lost her right eye, but was cleared to go racing again in February. No definite cause of death has been given yet, but a heart attack is suspected. She was 33. More info here. Getty Images
  7. I finally remembered to check the qualifying times on a Friday, and found that qualifying was yesterday . Anyway, I'm sure Garrett will be pleased to see who's on pole for tomorrow's race. 1 Jeff Gordon 2 Kevin Harvick 3 Greg Biffle 4 Jimmie Johnson 5 Kasey Kahne 6 Dale Earnhardt Jr 7 Ryan Newman 8 Juan Pablo Montoya 9 Kyle Busch 10 Kurt Busch 11 Aric Almirola 12 Joey Logano 13 Paul Menard 14 Clint Bowyer 15 Carl Edwards 16 Ricky Stenhouse Jr 17 Martin Truex Jr 18 Denny Hamlin 19 Brian Scott 20 Matt Kenseth 21 Kyle Larson 22 Mark Martin 23 Brad Keselowski 24 Bobby Labonte 25 Jamie McMurray 26 Jeff Burton 27 Brian Vickers 28 Casey Mears 29 Marcos Ambrose 30 David Ragan 31 Cole Whitt 32 Landon Cassill 33 Josh Wise 34 David Gilliland 35 Danica Patrick 36 David Reutimann 37 Michael McDowell 38 Joe Nemechek 39 Dave Blaney 40 Timmy Hill 41 Travis Kvapil 42 J.J. Yeley 43 Blake Koch The Bank of America 500 from the Charlotte Motor Speedway is tomorrow night (Saturday). I wish NASCAR.com could be consistent with their times - it's either at 6:30 PM ET or 7:30 PM ET. It's generally the later of the two times they give. Either way, the race is live on ABC this week. The start time means it will probably finish too late for me to see the end this week as I'll be up early on Sunday morning to watch the Japanese Grand Prix.
  8. Do y'all remember the Capital City Motel that appeared in 'Enos and Daisy's Wedding'. I posted pictures back in post #123. Here's a reminder: At the time, I thought it might have been a real motel, but as I found more locations, I got the feeling that it could be somewhere on the backlot. I now have the location courtesy of Moxie from the 'Scarecrow and Mrs King' site (see two posts back). The picture below shows the office building on the WB backlot that was used as the motel. It was taken by Moxie during a visit to Burbank at the beginning of the year. The Google Maps view below shows the office/motel building roughly in the center at the top. Hazzard Square is at the bottom, and some of New York Street can be seen at the left. I've marked the rough camera location for Moxie's picture with an arrow. I had considered this building before, but ruled it out because I thought it was single-story. Also, the 45-degree view on Google Maps which shows the eastern side is too dark to see any detail. Thanks to Moxie for both identifying the location and letting me use the picture.

  10. You're quite right Roth, I should've done my research better. When I said the wheels were pretty close, I was comparing them to the picture on the Supercar Collectibles site: These are common wheels for Mopars of that era (I even did my FanArt version with these wheels!). However, when I looked at the larger image and compared it with the actual scene from 'Money to Burn' (below), I realized that the wheels have been Photoshopped on the picture above. I guess it was easier to make the picture look like the model than make the model look like the real car. It's a shame when these models fall down on simple details like this (see my previous comments on Cooter's Camaro here). Hopefully they can fix the wheels before release.
  11. I think the wheels are pretty close, although the reflections make it difficult to tell. I agree that the hood decals are slightly off (not by much), but the site describes it as a "sample displayed at iHobby toy show". It's quite possible that details will change before it's released.
  12. Supercar Collectibles finally have sample pictures of the upcoming 1:18 model of Daisy's 1971 Road Runner. The expected delivery date has now been put back to March, 2014. More details here. They also have news of an updated version of Rosco's patrol car, but a "newer yet" lightbar is the only detail listed for the improvements. Release is likely to be May 2014. Off topic I know, but I seem to remember that Roger has a liking for the Charlie's Angels Mustang II. The 1:18 version by Greenlight Collectibles comes out next week (October 14th), although maybe it's not the same without Farrah Fawcett on the hood .
  13. I was glad to see McDowell and Wise got their refreshment and relaxation periods sorted this week, because last week, according to the lap-by-lap guide, they had to retire "due to break issues" .
  14. While I was hanging out on a forum about Los Angeles recently, I came across a fellow member, Moxie, who has been tracking down filming locations for the '80s TV series 'Scarecrow and Mrs King'. What piqued my interest is that they also used the WB backlot overlapping the time when Dukes was filmed there, although they preferred to work on New York and Hennesy Streets: SMK on the WB backlot: http://scarecrowandmrskingforum.yuku.com/topic/2255/SMK-on-the-WB-backlot There's another thread for all the other filming locations. Moxie and friends really had their work cut out finding some of these places as both east and west coast locations were used, as well as a few in Europe. You'll even find maps that tie all the locations together. Other filming locations: http://scarecrowandmrskingforum.yuku.com/topic/2245/Filming-Locations
  15. Thanks - I was trying to watch something on TV at the same time and missed what happened. Still, he was very close to two of the earlier crashes/spins and got away without any contact, so I guess I should be glad for that.
  16. What happened to Ricky at the end? He was running in the top 20 with about 50 laps to go, and then, toward the end, he suddenly went a lap down just at a point in the race when there weren't any cautions! I've just watched the Dario Franchitti crash and it looks pretty bad, although the driver compartment stayed intact. In the Korean Grand Prix we had a tire ripping itself apart, a front wing coming loose and creating a shower of sparks, and Mark Webber's car catching fire (he got out unhurt before the fire really took hold).
  17. Going to Las Vegas was a popular idea for '80s TV shows. The A-Team went in 'The Rabbit Who Ate Las Vegas', The Fall Guy in 'TKO', and Knight Rider in more than one episode. Although the Dukes never went, "Vegas" does get a passing mention in a few episodes eg. "I mean, all that talk about shock absorbers back there... and the whole time, they got a little Vegas running. In Vegas at least you got a chance of winning." in 'Route 7-11'.
  18. Good news, good news. I saw "Chat Room" on the menu bar earlier and wondered how long it had been there. It looks like the Flash option works best for me - do all the options go to the same chat room?
  19. This Sunday they're racing at the Kansas Speedway in the Hollywood Casino 400. Only Kevin Harvick was faster than Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in qualifying, so I'm hoping for a good race. 1 Kevin Harvick 2 Ricky Stenhouse Jr 3 Jimmie Johnson 4 Brad Keselowski 5 Joey Logano 6 Dale Earnhardt Jr 7 Matt Kenseth 8 Paul Menard 9 Carl Edwards 10 Denny Hamlin 11 Brian Vickers 12 Juan Pablo Montoya 13 Martin Truex Jr 14 Jeff Gordon 15 Kasey Kahne 16 Jeff Burton 17 Ryan Newman 18 Kyle Busch 19 Kurt Busch 20 Aric Almirola 21 Justin Allgaier 22 Clint Bowyer 23 Mark Martin 24 Jamie McMurray 25 Marcos Ambrose 26 Greg Biffle 27 David Reutimann 28 AJ Allmendinger 29 Danica Patrick 30 Cole Whitt 31 Michael McDowell 32 David Ragan 33 J.J. Yeley 34 David Gilliland 35 Timmy Hill 36 Travis Kvapil 37 Casey Mears 38 Josh Wise 39 Joe Nemechek 40 Reed Sorenson 41 Dave Blaney 42 Tony Raines 43 Landon Cassill Once again NASCAR.com seems undecided on the start time. It's either 1:00 PM ET or 2:00 PM ET (my guess is 2:00) on ESPN.

    One Word Song Titles

I was looking for a doo-wop song earlier when I came across this one instead (the doo-wop song turned out to be by the Four Lovers, precursor to the Four Seasons, but this came up because both have "Apple of my eye" in the lyrics). Intrigued by the name of the artist, I gave it a listen, and realized that I already knew it from a car commercial. Wikipedia describes them as "an American indie folk band". The song is from 2009. Home - Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros And here's the car commercial that features the song. Confusingly, the commercial is from 2013, but the car is called the 2008. Peugeot haven't sold cars in the US since 1991, but a white Peugeot 504 does appear in a couple of the Georgia episodes.

    Duck Dynasty

I don't get the History Channel any more, but they used to show some interesting documentaries. It seems that they changed their programming in 2008. I've just looked up the current schedule, and it consists of Duck Dynasty, Storage Wars, Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men etc. repeated several times a day - makes me quite glad I'm no longer paying for it! PS. I'm also old enough to remember when Music Television showed music .

    Duck Dynasty

Just a quick update for UK members: ITV4 will be showing Duck Dynasty from next Tuesday (October 8th) at 9 PM - the first time it will be available on a non-subscription channel in the UK. It was previously shown on the History Channel (which I don't have).
  23. It has to be one of the Georgia episodes because out of all the patrol cars used, the one in the pictures is either a 1975 Dodge Monaco or a 1975 Plymouth Gran Fury. The rear window of a patrol car gets shot out near the end of 'Mary Kaye's Baby' (see below), so I think it's most likely that the pictures are from an unused scene in that episode.
  24. Thanks, Ila. The video has been posted before, but the link is dead, so it was good to see it again. It says "AllPosters". It's here and they're currently asking a lot of money for a 46 x 61 cm photographic print of that picture (and you can double the price if you want a frame!).
