  1. The Jeff Altman picture looks like it was taken during the filming of 'The Revenge of Hughie Hogg', although I'm not sure of the location. The Hazzard Picture Palace had red curtains, but that's only a guess. I think the Daisy picture was taken outside the house to the left of Boss's house, which was used as a boarding house in 'Enos's Last Chance'. The more usual boarding house was directly opposite.
  2. I was referring to my song being from the '80s, and older songs are fine with me. BTW. the Jason Aldean video isn't available here. Let's go back to some music written in the mid 19th century as part of 'Die Walküre'. It's been used in many movies - 'Apocalypse Now' and 'The Blues Brothers' spring to mind. Ride of the Valkyries - Wagner
  3. It was the '80s - enough said . Swords of a Thousand Men - Tenpole Tudor The top YouTube comment is "Love this song it makes me want get my longsword from under the stairs and invade France".

I haven't added to this thread for a while, but the comparisons continue. This week I knew the first version pretty well - it's a soul classic: On Broadway - The Drifters The competition was provided by a relatively unknown British singer who I only heard about fairly recently. It's a stripped back, more jazzier version, but I think it's great. It also won the public vote. On Broadway - Jess Roden (ignore the video - this one has the best sound quality) I still enjoy discovering "new" music, even if it is from 1974
  5. I think you've been caught out by those pesky Canadians again . The information is in English and French (see "Pieces/Pièces" at the top). It just happens that the title of this jigsaw is the same in both languages (try saying the second one with a French accent ). It makes more sense with the one below: There are Coca-Cola signs on either side of the main sign, so it can't have been on Dukes. There also seems to be a picture of Flash on the window next to Rick. This made me curious, so after a bit of Googling, I found this in an article about Hazard, KY: Nestled in a wooded valley in the heart of Appalachian coal country, tiny (pop. 5,500) Hazard, Ky. hardly seems the kind of place whose "Black Gold Festival" would attract some 80,000 people from as far away as Chicago and Florida and cause traffic jams three miles long. Capitalizing on the name similarity, they invited the stars of CBS's smash The Dukes of Hazzard to participate. Nobody noticed the absence of "Duke" boys Tom Wopat and John Schneider, because Catherine (Daisy) Bach, Sorrell (Boss Hogg) Booke, Rick (Cletus) Hurst and James (Sheriff Rosco) Best enthusiastically winged in. ... So far, the TV show's impact on Hazard is best represented by the local pool hall, which was rechristened "Boss Hogg's Place" 18 months ago and decorated with life-size drawings of Boss and Rosco. "Business went up 40 percent right away," reports owner Reenie Feltner. Entering for the first time, Booke proclaimed, "Seems like a place befitting my style." You can see the whole article here. When I went looking for pictures, I came across this great video of the event. I think you're gonna like it .
  6. I tried, Roger. Here's a couple of screengrabs where I've played with the contrast in the hope of making the text clearer. I'm sure the third line says "Hazzard", and the second line looks like "RT 24", but I can't make out any more, other than the first word possibly being "Jesse".
  7. Could it be Tom Wopat? Although the first word looks like "Jam", I thought it might be "Tom", and it is signed on Tom's side of the photo. When I did a Google image search for his autograph, I found that it varied quite a bit. Here's a few examples that all claim to be genuine:
  8. There's another British cookery show I watch called Saturday Kitchen. Each week the host, chef James Martin, is joined by two top chefs who cook a dish each. There's also a celebrity guest who gets to eat their "food heaven" or "food hell" depending on the votes of callers. Another regular feature in the Omelette Challenge where the guest chefs have to cook a three-egg omelette in the quickest time. Here's the first ever Omelette Challenge featuring Irish chef Paul Rankin and Italian chef Antonio Carluccio (other regular Italian chefs include Aldo Zilli, Gennaro Contaldo and Gino D'Acampo). It's fun to see which of the chefs, some of them with more than one Michelin star, have been practising - most take it really seriously. The current record is around 17 seconds, although some chefs aren't so rushed. In the video below, American chef Thomas Keller takes a more leisurely approach. The celebrity guest in the video above (the bald guy with glasses) is British comedian/actor/musician Ade Edmondson, who won the last series of Celebrity Masterchef a couple of weeks ago.
  9. Garrett's been writing a lot about NASCAR this week, so I thought I'd help out with the starting line-up for tomorrow's (Sunday's) race. 1 Ryan Newman 2 Kasey Kahne 3 Jeff Gordon 4 Kurt Busch 5 Martin Truex Jr 6 Joey Logano 7 Paul Menard 8 Kevin Harvick 9 Matt Kenseth 10 Greg Biffle 11 Jimmie Johnson 12 Kyle Busch 13 Aric Almirola 14 Denny Hamlin 15 Juan Pablo Montoya 16 Clint Bowyer 17 Dale Earnhardt Jr 18 Mark Martin 19 David Ragan 20 Brad Keselowski 21 Danica Patrick 22 Marcos Ambrose 23 Jamie McMurray 24 David Gilliland 25 Jeff Burton 26 Carl Edwards 27 Michael McDowell 28 Bobby Labonte 30 Travis Kvapil 31 Ricky Stenhouse Jr 32 Landon Cassill 33 Kevin Swindell 34 Casey Mears 35 David Reutimann 36 Joe Nemechek 37 J.J. Yeley 38 Dave Blaney 39 Tony Raines 40 Scott Riggs 41 Johnny Sauter 42 Timmy Hill 43 Josh Wise The SYLVANIA 300 from the New Hampshire Motor Speedway starts at either 1:00 PM ET or 2:00 PM ET (NASCAR.com gives both times!) on Sunday on ESPN.
  10. Here's another funky song! Twenty Five Miles - Edwin Starr
  11. Pruitts Printing was actually in the middle of French Street. It appeared in 'Mrs. Daisy Hogg' at the start of season 4. I don't recognize the signature either, but the man on the left is Mr. Pruitt, played by Hank Underwood, so it's not his.
  12. A radio show I listen to always plays half an hour of funky tunes every Friday, so I couldn't resist a bit of disco . More Than a Woman - Bee Gees http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjppwVyoQww
  13. It's a picture from 16 Magazine, which, according to its Wikipedia page, was a celebrity magazine aimed at nine- to 12-year-old girls. I couldn't find an issue late enough to have included Chris and Byron, but here's two covers from Dukes related issues (neither had inside pages available): Ebay Here's an inside page from the June 1982 issue which had Scott Baio on the cover: Ebay
  14. outpost (Another hillside sign that used to overlook Los Angeles. This one is now a twisted pile of metal.) Wikimapia
  15. Here's a great, silly video that even includes Ronald Reagan's Boraxo hand gel commercial at the end .
  16. I found this cover of an issue of SuperTeen magazine that features Cathy, but it don't know if it's the same issue that your picture comes from. The website dates it as 3/82. It looks like there's also something about John in the magazine. ztams.wpengine.com
  17. Thanks Garrett, I had to go to bed before the restart (it was even later than a night race ). I checked the results when I woke up, and was pleased to see Ricky had claimed 8th - his best finish so far. In the part of the race I saw, the commentators mentioned how Ricky had improved over the last few races, and that his team was giving him more resources.
  18. Thanks, Ila . Back in post #129, when I first covered the 'Reunion' movie, I speculated that Cooter's/Rhuebottom's must've already been torn down because they're never shown. Google Earth now has aerials for the WB Backlot dating back to 1989, but they're too blurry to make out the detail. Then, a couple of days ago, Roth posted a video featuring John Schneider behind the scenes of the 'Reunion' movie (sadly, the video has already been removed by the uploader). Before it was deleted, I managed to get this screengrab where the replacement buildings are visible over Rick's shoulder (far left of shot). For a better look at the new buildings, here's a picture I found on itsfilmedthere.com (link includes many recent pictures of the backlot). The new buildings didn't feature in 'Reunion', but were used in 'Hazzard in Hollywood' (see post #139).
  19. According to NASCAR.com "Jet dryers now on track". Fingers crossed.
  20. Great pictures, CornDog. I can't wait to see your progress as you put the new parts on. Can I suggest that you start a new thread somewhere in the 'Vehicles' section of the forum (I'm guessing that either 'The HazzardNet Garage' or 'The General Lee' would be best). I'm just worried that your pictures and fascinating information will get lost in an introduction thread.

Technically, the new rules would also ban drafting, as pairing up with another driver makes both cars go faster, thereby affecting the race. I know, but at least let NASCAR dream for a while .

Apart from not punishing Bowyer, I think NASCAR have actually done a reasonable job with this situation (and with the Mike Skeen's girlfriend incident). So, can you not let your team mate past to get a point for leading? Deliberately making contact with another car also comes under this heading. In the long run, I think NASCAR will find this rule very difficult to enforce. Team orders were banned for years in F1, but the subject was put back on the table when Felipe Massa had to let Fernando Alonso (his Ferrari team mate) past even though he only got the radio message "Fernando is faster than you". Team orders are now permitted, and all radio communications are monitored by F1. Someone on NASCAR.com just asked how this rule will affect the teams that turn-up and only do about five laps each week.
  23. In all of yesterday's excitement, it's easy to forget that there's still a race tomorrow (Sunday). Joey Logano was fastest in yesterday's qualifying, with Brad Keselowski and JPM just behind him. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. just beat yesterday's "Lucky Dog" (), Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson qualified his own car this week to make it into the top ten. 1 Joey Logano 2 Brad Keselowski 3 Juan Pablo Montoya 4 Kasey Kahne 5 Ricky Stenhouse Jr 6 Jeff Gordon 7 Greg Biffle 8 Carl Edwards 9 Jimmie Johnson 10 Matt Kenseth 11 Paul Menard 12 Kyle Busch 13 AJ Allmendinger 14 Martin Truex Jr 15 Aric Almirola 16 Kurt Busch 17 Kevin Harvick 18 Dale Earnhardt Jr 19 David Ragan 20 Ryan Newman 21 Jeff Burton 22 Denny Hamlin 23 Danica Patrick 24 Clint Bowyer 25 Brian Vickers 26 Marcos Ambrose 27 Jamie McMurray 28 Cole Whitt 29 Mark Martin 30 J.J. Yeley 31 Casey Mears 32 Landon Cassill 33 David Reutimann 34 Josh Wise 35 David Gilliland 36 Justin Allgaier 37 Travis Kvapil 38 Michael McDowell 39 Timmy Hill 40 Reed Sorenson 41 Dave Blaney 42 Joe Nemechek 43 Tony Raines It's a shame that none of the drivers is called Jake, allowing me to make some sort of 'Blues Brothers' reference to Joliet Jake. Nonetheless, the GEICO 400 at Chicagoland Speedway, Joliet, IL starts at 2:00 PM ET on ESPN.

Garrett, I hope you don't suffer from triskaidekaphobia. With Gordon being made the 13th Chase driver on Friday the 13th, maybe 13 will be your new lucky number .
