  1. Seeing as Skipper Duke found another thread about the Dukes appearance on The Graham Norton Show, I went looking for the show online so that I could watch it again. All the old links are dead (I edited my post above), but I found that someone had uploaded the show a few months ago. It's only the half hour show and not the 45 minute "uncut" version, but it's better than nothing. I'll just remind you that the show is more adult-oriented than you may be used to from US talk shows!
  2. There's a great way to start the new year in the UK and Ireland - Forces TV will be repeating Dukes from the beginning on weekend mornings. They're starting with a double bill of 'One Armed Bandits' and 'Daisy's Song' at 10:30 on Saturday 2nd January, and then they're showing the other three Georgia episodes back-to-back on Sunday 3rd starting at 10:05. Both are followed by a double helping of 'CHiPs'! There's no word on whether they've got the rights to seasons 4-7, but they're already being asked about on the Forces TV Facebook page.
  3. Bold (Bold can be used as a synonym for naughty in Ireland) Parlor games used to be popular of both sides of the Atlantic, especially in the Victorian era. They're just indoor games like charades.
  4. games There - lets cheer it up a bit
  5. I wonder why the General didn't have hood pins, especially after they welded the doors shut and put a roll cage in.
  6. I had this song in my head for most of Wednesday afternoon because one of the ladies at work sang it as she distributed the bottles of whiskey and brandy around the office!
  7. I didn't remember that line, so I googled it. It's actually from 'The Sweetest Taboo' - a song that I know less well, but still not a bad way to start Christmas morning given the quality of the music and the highly appropriate lyric. Looking at the release date, it came out the the same year as the final series of Dukes. Enjoy...
  8. I woke up this morning, turned on the TV, and there was 'The Great Santa Claus Chase'. It was good of Forces TV to dig out this seasonal episode. I just hope it prompts them to acquire the rights to seasons 4-7 of the show as this is the first time I've seen Dukes in their listings since they showed seasons 1-3 earlier in the year.
  9. tears I started the bottle I had a couple of weeks ago, but now I have another!
  10. Maybe they stole their water from a nearby valley via an aquaduct, leaving the valley dry and ruining its economy. Oh no, that wasn't Hazzard, that was Los Angeles!
  11. If you can do 'We Have All The Time In The World' I'll be impressed. I think that's my favorite song of his. BTW. Since I read that you liked Sade (I think you've mentioned it before), I've had 'Smooth Operator' and 'Your Love is King' stuck in my head!
  12. Wine (I got given two bottles of French wine this afternoon, although I could've gone with Cognac as I got a bottle of that too )
  13. I don't remember the scene, but the merchandise (bracelet, mink coat, tickets to Mexico) sounds like 'No More Mr. Nice Guy' in season 7.

    NASCAR news

This should be the final F1 hijack of the year . Last night, Lewis Hamilton won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. It's presented annually to the sportsperson judged to have achieved the most that year. The winner is chosen by the public from a shortlist. "The recipient must either be British or reside and play a significant amount of their sport in the United Kingdom." It's Lewis' second win, with his first back in 2014.
  15. The new strain is most prevalent in London and the south-east of England, but has spread to other parts of Britain as well as a few other countries in limited amounts. It's up to 70% more transmissible, but is said to be no more deadly and they don't think it will react differently to the vaccine. As I said in the other thread, several countries have banned flights to/from the UK. Ireland is only allowing freight to be carried on ferries to/from the UK, and France has suspended all trade links for 48 hours.
  16. Nothing special here either. At the moment the shops are still open as normal, but the number of new Covid cases has jumped for the past couple of days. Everyone's being told to be sensible over the Christmas period and keep social interaction to a minimum. The UK upped their lockdown on Friday night and then again last night. They have a new strain that spreads more quickly, so they're back to essential shops only (tough for all the men who leave their Christmas shopping until Christmas Eve!). Several European countries, including Ireland, have put a 48 ban on flights to/from the UK, so it's a good job I wasn't going home for Christmas.
  17. We had a frost again this morning, but I haven't seen any snow yet. I believe your blizzards are heading our way though!
  18. Yahoo (Yahoo Serious is an Australian actor) The British plainclothes police detectives the Criminal Investigation Department are usually referred to as just the CID, but these letters are said to stand for a considerably ruder phrase in slang. Needless to say, I won't be posting it here!
  19. I used to work in a building which also housed a crèche and an after-schools club for older children. Someone put up signs in the bathrooms about not using "alot of toilet paper". I took them down and replaced them with signs about not using "a lot of toilet paper". About half the people who noticed me changing them couldn't see anything wrong with the original signs! I pointed out that that was exactly the reason I was changing them, so that the kids didn't get the wrong spelling reinforced in their minds. Similar to the "Registeration" story, a local upmarket hotel had "Enterance 100m" on its sign for months a couple of years ago. They eventually changed it.
