Despite other inaccuracies, the British police were driving recognizable Rover SD1 cars. With their 3.5 V8, they were iconic police vehicles in the '80s, especially in their more common "jam sandwich" livery (the white cars with an orange stripe down the middle looked like a jam (or jelly in the US) sandwich). You can see one here. Someone once suggested that I could see a band when their tour visited London. It turned out to be the one in Canada!

We had 330 new cases today. That's just over one and a half times as many as you, but with a population over 18 times as large.

The continuity and accuracy in the cartoons is pretty poor. I posted a few inconsistencies here. In 'The Dukes of London', the policeman who stops the Dukes with what he thinks is the Queen's dog has a pink mustache (it wasn't colored in) for part of the scene. That would be a railway crossing in England, Roger. The Queen famously keeps and breeds corgis, but I suppose that wouldn't make such a good story. Aren't Flash and Regina both female? Where would the puppies come from?

I don't think I've noticed that before, Roger. From what I can see, Zeb was played by Richard Johnson, but the part is uncredited. He was previously one of the ultralight pilots in 'Daisy's Shotgun Wedding' (where he was credited as Rick Johnson). I assumed Toby was Dr. Davis' bearded assistant, but I can't find any contemporary pictures of him for comparison, and he isn't named in the dialogue. I'll try to watch the episode in full over the weekend.

It it gets approved over here, it looks like healthcare workers and vulnerable people will (rightly) get the first batch. After that I'll have to see about the availability.

We haven't had a curfew here. How does that work? Are businesses open as usual during the day? Does the Coronavirus know not to infect people until after a certain time? Roger, I misread your post about your test results - that's great news.

Lewis has undoubtedly had the best car for the last few years, although last year's Ferrari should've won more. During his time at Mercedes, only Nico Rosberg beat him to a single World Championship. Car not withstanding, he probably is the driver of his generation. It'll be good to see Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc in more competitive cars, and they're both only 23, so they should be around for a while.

I believe the song is actually called "Never Could Toe the Mark", yours is the next line.

I wonder how many have been edited for political correctness/modern tastes. Some of the older cartoons contain pretty bad racial stereotyping, and others have had smoking edited out (I see Boss still has his cigar in the Dukes cartoons). Personally, I'm happy to put up with a warning before watching them so long as they're left untouched - then I can decide if I want to proceed. When the audience is primarily children, different rules apply.

Are you guys locking down? The one we have here isn't as severe as the first one. I think everyone knew that grocery shops/supermarkets would stay open, so I haven't noticed any panic buying (some people probably still have toilet rolls from Spring!). We also have hardware stores open and cafes/restaurants open for takeaway. One thing that did change is shops selling food and clothing have had to close their clothing sections because it was deemed unfair to the clothing only stores that have to close. Most stores are now selling face masks, but some idiots still won't wear one. We're four weeks into our current six week level 5 lockdown, and new cases have dropped from over 1200/day to under 400. The UK delayed their lockdown and have been paying the price. P.S. I hope your test comes back clear, Roger.

One of the last F1 hijacks this year, I promise : Lewis Hamilton won a record-equalling seventh World Championship on Sunday, and now has the same number of titles as Michael Schumacher. He didn't have it all his way this weekend - the track in Turkey was already very slippery due to recent resurfacing, and then it rained for both qualifying and the race. Hamilton struggled in the practice sessions, and only qualified sixth (his worst start of the year). Undeterred, he drove an almost faultless race in changeable conditions to take the victory. His team mate, Valtteri Bottas, the only person still in with a chance at the title, could only manage 14th place. Hamilton has now won 10 of the 14 races this season - Bottas, in an identical car, has won two. Their team, Mercedes, won a record seventh consecutive constructors' title at the previous race. Yesterday, a cross-party group of MPs called for Lewis Hamilton to be knighted (following in the footsteps of previous racing drivers Sir Jackie Stewart and Sir Stirling Moss), and today he was named the most influential black person in the UK in the Powerlist 2021. All in all, it hasn't been a bad year for Lewis.

I look forward to your cartoon reviews, Roger. I haven't watched them since I first bought the DVDs several years ago. It's about time I dug them out again!

Help identify this prop sign
HossC replied to Mark B / Scooter Davenport's topic in Dukes of Hazzard General Discussion
My second guess was 'The Revenge of Hughie Hogg', as it's another episode where a Hogg was looking for a vote (this time it's Hughie for sheriff). I skipped through the whole episode, but only spotted the yellow poster in the bottom right corner of the display case. My search goes on... -
Help identify this prop sign
HossC replied to Mark B / Scooter Davenport's topic in Dukes of Hazzard General Discussion
My first guess was 'People's Choice', but although there's a banner with "Vote for J.D. Hogg", I can't see that sign. I'm off to bed soon, but I'll have another look tomorrow if no one gets it. -
This episode aired the same year that Leslie Easterbrook (Madame Delilah) made her first appearance as Callahan in the Police Academy movies. Before that, she was in most episodes of the last three seasons of Laverne and Shirley.

At least Boss' house is still standing. The houses after it, including the haunted house from 'The Hazzardville Horror', have been replaced by newer buildings. Considering LA's liking for redevelopment, the remaining houses on Hazzard Square must be among the oldest in the area .

This was the last appearance of Ernie Lively, who was previously in 'One Armed Bandits' and then three season 2 episodes. This time he played Clyde, the Guard at the impound yard.

I'm currently midway through watching a box set of a British sitcom called Hi-de-Hi!. It's about a holiday camp in the late-50s/early-60s, and was originally shown between 1980 and 1988. By a strange coincidence, less than 24 hours after Roger's review, the episode I'm watching has another reference to that scene in "It Happened One Night". When two staff members have to share a room, one of the others says, "Did you ever see that film with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert where they have to spend the night in the same room?". Another person then names the movie. The episode of Hi-de-Hi originally aired about a year before 'Close Call for Daisy', so maybe "It Happened One Night" was popular amongst script writers in the 1980s (on both sides of the Atlantic).

Here's the original scene:
-
He's referring to "the Walls of Jericho" scene from the 1934 Frank Capra comedy "It Happened One Night" starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert.
-
Johnny Depp's got even scarier this week, but you'd have to be married to him!

She was Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month for its January 1976 issue, and now runs her own "Prophetic and Prayer Ministry". (That's Daina House, not Miz Tisdale )

I think he's just being disturbed at odd hours and the police come round to see the neighbor from time to time (although the police knocked on his door in the middle of the night a few weeks ago for no good reason). Luckily, I don't think he's having any direct confrontations.

Did you recognize Dewey's nurse? She was one of the car strippers in 'Arrest Jesse Duke'. The episode title is a parody of the 1967 movie 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying', which also starred Robert Morse.
