    The wind rises

There are some big anime fans in the UK, but not many of them. You'd pretty much have to watch it on DVD (reasonably well supported in shops) or online. I found an article titled Why is anime invisible on British TV? that might give you some reasons. This may explain why I've never seen much anime, but, given your enthusiasm for the genre, I'll try to watch some next time I get the chance.
  2. I don't understand the ins and outs of Chase qualification (I'll leave that to Garrett ), but I found the following at gordononline.com: "Jeff Gordon posted a 6th place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway to move within 6 points of the final Chase cutoff. Barring a victory at Richmond, Gordon would need to finish 6 spots ahead of Kurt Busch providing that Greg Biffle and Dale Earnhardt Jr do not implode."
  3. 1967 Chevy Camaro (1967 was the first model year for the Camaro)
  4. You're welcome. The subtitles spell it Vivian Stewart, but you're close enough (they sound the same) . The road is either Potrero Canyon Road if you believe Bing Maps, or Pico Canyon Road if you believe Google Maps. Based on the other features in the area, I think I'd go with Pico Canyon Road (I assume named after Pio Pico, the last governor of Alta California under Mexican rule). The current Google image shows the area churned up and very brown, but it's still green on Bing. I'm not sure if the road made it into the Hazzard Square thread, but there are a couple of pictures and a Google Maps link in a thread called Mystery Location.

    The wind rises

I grew up in the UK, and in the '80s I remember watching a live action version of Heidi that was dubbed from German, and a live action version of Anne of Green Gables from Canada (the one with Megan Follows). I'm not saying we didn't have the others, but I don't remember anime versions. All this talk of anime reminded me of a scene from 'The Big Bang Theory' where Sheldon points out to Penny that anime and cartoons are not the same:

I don't seem to be having much luck with the TV schedules. I was just flicking channels and found 'Spirited Away' was on, but it was already half over. Knowing the channel it's on, they'll show it again within a week. I've never really watched much anime, but it did remind me of the early '80s when I used to watch 'Battle of the Planets': When I looked it up, I found that it actually dates from 1978 (we may have got it a little later in the UK). It was an American adaptation of an earlier (1972) Japanese series (which you're probably familiar with) called Science Ninja Team Gatchaman/科学忍者隊ガッチャマン (that's how Wikipedia spells it ). If you prefer your anime in Japanese with English subtitles, here's an original episode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsqB59YOBHA
  7. I've posted screengrabs of the other cast member on 'The Andy Griffith Show', so I'll let other people have a guess first .
  8. Yep - that's right . I can normally remember the titles, but usually double-check the season so that I don't lead people in the wrong direction. This one is 'Heiress Daisy Duke' in season 6. BTW. I don't know where the Rosco picture was taken either.
  9. My guess is the kid who spits on the rear window of the General. I think he was the son of Ernie Lively (who also appeared in several episodes). I'm going to say his name was Jason Lively. BTW. I'd still suggest that you post the picture of Rick's wedding in the rare picture thread because it's unlikely to be found in the middle of this trivia thread.
  10. Ramsay did the first season of Hell's Kitchen in the UK, but then signed a deal with another TV channel. The US version is shown here, but I don't think I've watched it since the first or second season. I do sometimes watch Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares (the first five seasons were based in the UK before he started making them in the US), even though they get pretty formulaic, and they've just started showing Ramsay's Hotel Hell. His shows are broadcast after the watershed in the UK, and the swearing is left in!
  11. One day it would be nice if the drivers remembered that they're grown-ups who are paid a lot of money to do what they do!
  12. Only Roth gets a point for correctly guessing that it's Rick's son, Ryan Hurst (who even shares his father's middle name, Douglas). I'm sure some of the others must have children of a similar age. According to IMDb: A) Denver Pyle has two children Waylon Jennings has four children, including Shooter C) Sonny Shroyer has two sons, Chris and Mark D) Sorrell Booke has two children, Alexandra and Nicholas E) Rick Hurst has two children, including Ryan I'm not sure whether any of them other than Shooter and Ryan are in the entertainment industry. Of course, Jimmie Best's daughter, Janeen, is an actress/writer/producer who appeared as Mary Lou in 'A Baby for the Dukes'. I got the idea for the question when Ryan's name came up on a quiz show that I watched recently. It was in connection with his appearance in the 2004 remake of 'The Ladykillers'. Also, Kathy Mallard recently posted a picture of Rick's 1981 wedding on the HNet Facebook page (is this the one that you saw, Roth?). It shows five-year-old Ryan with Cathy and Sorrell, as well as with Rick and his new wife. Ryan's hardly changed a bit . Does anyone else want to ask a question? Sharing the question-master duties seems to be working well.

Dang it! You've just reminded me that 'Laputa: Castle in the Sky' was on yesterday, and I forgot to watch it . I can't claim to know much about the genre, but I saw this one years ago and wanted to see it again.
  14. You remind me of a quote from the late, great humorist Willie Rushton from a radio show called 'I'm Sorry, I Haven't a Clue' (it's known as "The antidote to panel games"). They used to have a round where the panelists had to complete well-known proverbs and quotes in an amusing manner. When given "Too many cooks", he finished it with "on television". Willie died in 1996, so an overdose of cookery shows is nothing new on British TV (and I end up watching quite a few, without any noticeable improvement in my cookery skills ). I appreciate that English isn't your first language, so I don't know how familiar you are with idioms and quotes, but here are a few more "improved" quotes and proverbs from the show: "Rome wasn't built in" ... "Norway" "A miss is as good as a" ... "Mrs" "Why do birds suddenly appear" ... "every time the wife's with me" I also like the movie prequels round, some examples of which can be seen here.
  15. Thanks for the race summary, Garrett. I looked up the Camping World Truck Series incidents this morning. Ty Dillon was low on fuel at the end, which left him slow in certain corners. Chase Elliot was alongside Ty through a couple of corners on the last lap, but ended up spinning him out quite hard at the last corner. You can see the video here. The two crews then had to be kept apart in the pits. Other drivers were also goading each other on the slow-down lap. As for the Max Papis slap, I see no reason why Mike Skeen's girlfriend should escape (police) prosecution for assault. To me, the venue shouldn't make any difference. NASCAR should also ban her from attending a certain number of races, but they won't because they'd prefer to get the headlines in the sports pages rather than set anything approaching a good example.
  16. Sorry, Roger, I forgot to comment on your night out. It sounds like you got to see some good racing, and it's even better when someone you know is successful . Aren't those Sprint cars the ones that have been causing various injuries to NASCAR drivers recently, including the death of Jason Leffler? The racing looks exciting, but the driver protection looks outdated compared to the safety innovations that have been made in many other forms of modern motorsport.
  17. The store behind John could be 'Seth M. Berley & Co.' or the 'J.D. Hogg Furniture Mart', but it was 'Hazzard Square Emporium' (and painted a different color) by the eighth episode of season 6. That's a roundabout way of saying that I think you're right . The episode you're thinking of is 'A Boy's Best Friend' in season 6. It could well be from that episode. I'm going to agree with you again. In all the screengrabs I have, those windows are pretty much covered by an awning or a sign, but take a look at the top right corner of the shot below. It's about midway down the stores of French Street.
  18. The Chase is the name of an award-winning UK quiz show (apparently a US version has just started on GSN), so it amused me to think of all these drivers competing for a place on the show . The contestants take on one of four "chasers" in a series of questions. In the clip below, from one of the celebrity specials, the possible answers cause a lot of laughter amongst everyone involved: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD8szt0oFRQ

    Commercials

The following commercial is getting a re-run on UK TV at the moment. It's actually a commercial to promote the use of TV advertizing. I think the idea is that people remember it because it's a little bit odd (and it's got a very cute dog in it). Harvey & Rabbit: When I looked up the YouTube link, it reminded of the earlier commercial where we first meet Harvey. Every Home Needs a Harvey:
  20. I Googled Bastianich's name to make sure we were talking about the same show . "Chief" and "Chef" both come from the same Old French origin anyway. The later series of Junior MasterChef in the UK have been hosted by one of the regular hosts and one of the previous Celebrity MasterChef winners. The junior version is shown during the afternoon children's TV time slot, so I haven't seen it.
  21. I concur with the selections above, and would like to add Mufn's own The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread - it's packed with obscure info from multiple contributors.
  22. I have to admit, I do watch the UK version of MasterChef. I don't think the US or Italian versions are shown here, although I seem to remember the Australian version in the TV listings. I did a quick Google to find out how the other versions differed, and found it amusing that both incarnations of the US show have been fronted by British chefs (Gary Rhodes and Gordon Ramsey). I say "amusing" because the original British version that started back in 1990 was hosted by Loyd Grossman, who's American. In the UK it's a high profile show that gets slots in primetime (often three nights a week) on one of the main free channels (BBC1). The show has evolved over the years and now includes MasterChef (for amateurs), MasterChef: The Professionals for people already in the business (two-star Michelin chef Michel Roux Jr. becomes a host), Celebrity MasterChef (the finals of the current series are this week), and Junior MasterChef.
  23. I recently posted a picture of Cathy and her daughters in the Rare and Behind the Scenes Pictures of the Dukes of Hazzard thread, but whose son is this?: Photo credit: WENN A) Denver Pyle Waylon Jennings C) Sonny Shroyer D) Sorrell Booke E) Rick Hurst
