  1. Property (my reply to "taxes") It's my favorite song - I think I can quote it word for word. There's something about the lyric "And I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time" that always gets to me. Imagine how good it could've been if Jimmy Webb had finished it!
  2. There have been so many versions of the General Lee in diecast, even from just Johnny Lightning and Ertl. I couldn't find the exact models that you have when I looked, so I'd suggest you see what similar models are going for on ebay. Some sellers are asking $200-$300 for the Ertl 1:18 models from the early 2000s. Owners of 'chase' editions are asking considerably more.

  4. Skipper, it was only a week ago that you said you'd keep you inaccurate quotes to Facebook. This time you got Hammer's line wrong. Hammer: "Hey, Leeman, look at this. I been in them plowboys' closet. Take your pick." Bo Duke: "Wait a minute. Them there is our clothes." Admittedly, this is closer than you usually get, but "dang near" only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. I have better things to do with my time than correcting your quotes, but I'll keep doing it while you're getting them wrong. If you can't get them right, don't post them here!

  7. Thanks for letting us know, Roger. Joe Bonsall, one of the mainstays of country music's leading vocal group, the Oak Ridge Boys, for 51 years, died Tuesday at 76. The cause of death was complications of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Read the full article at variety.com.

What a race. This is the only one of the year that gets shown live on free-to-air TV over here, so I stayed in to watch it. The race started dry, and the two Mercedes led for the first laps. Max Verstappen got past Lando Norris for third on the first lap, but Lando passed him back a few laps later. Oscar Piastri, Lando's team mate, also got past Max. Then the rain came, gently at first. Hamilton got past George Russell for the lead, then Lando took the lead. McLaren split their tire strategy and Oscar had to do an extra lap before getting his intermediate (wet weather) tires. I think they raced for about 15 laps on a wet track, but Silverstone is an old airfield, so it dried quickly when the sun came out and the teams went back to slick tires. Sadly, George Russell had to retire his Mercedes with a mechanical issue. Lewis had ended up leading when they went back to slicks, and chose the soft tires, as did Lando in second. Max went for hards, and overtook Lando with a few laps to go, but he couldn't catch Lewis who won a record-breaking 9th British Grand Prix. It's Lewis' first win for two and a half years, and a record-breaking 104th career victory. Lewis was very emotional as he got out of his car waving a Union Jack at his home race. It's his last race there for Mercedes and the moment clearly got to him. We've now had six different winners from four different teams this year - twice as many as last year. Max is still well ahead with seven wins (the others have one each), but the top teams are now much closer, which bodes well for the second half of the season. The highlights aren't up yet - I'll post a link later when they get to YouTube.

It's probably about time that NASCAR adopted an electric element, but don't worry prematurely. Formula 1 has been using hybrid engines for 10 years now, but the main power unit is still gas powered. There was an article at roadandtrack.com in May suggesting that NASCAR could go hybrid from 2026. ABB seem to be behind the Jayski story. They are the main sponsor of the Formula E racing series. For those of you unfamiliar with Formula E, it uses fully electric cars for racing. The races are often run on city center courses where naturally aspirated cars would stand no chance of being allowed to race due to the noise (I've never been to a NASCAR race, but I can tell you that F1 cars are loud). I think you'll either get hybrid cars or a separate electric racing series. F1 and NASCAR are both committed to using 100% sustainable fuel as soon as possible, so that implies that neither are planning to go fully electric.
  15. Skipper, you promised to keep your inaccurate quotes to Facebook at Christmas. You're probably right that they don't care about accuracy, but we do. This is a forum, not Facebook! Roger, that's exactly what I do. I doesn't take long to do it properly when it's a short back and forth conversation, or a quick aside. When Skipper posts a whole scene as a 'favorite quote', it takes me much longer to check. Don't rely on the subtitles to be 100% the same as what's actually spoken. They're a good starting point, but sometimes they can get abbreviated to reduce the reading. I also remember one episode where the character says "plowboys" and the subtitles say "cowboys". It's not the only time they were wrong.

A little bit of F1 team news. The US-based Haas team has signed 19-year-old British driver Oliver Bearman for 2025 in a multi-year contract. Bearman, who currently drives in the F2 championship, stood in at the last minute for Carlos Sainz for Ferrari in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix earlier this year. After qualifying 11th, he finished 7th, and impressed a lot of people. For tomorrow's British Grand Prix, the three British drivers (Russell, Hamilton and Norris) will be starting first, second and third. Max Verstappen starts fourth. There was rain in practice and qualifying, so it should be a good race.
  17. Please stop posting incorrect quotes. The meeting was held under the guise of a toy convention, and Devere was referring to his buttonhole. Boss: "Well, step right inside, sir. Door at the end of the little path. On behalf of Hazzard County, I want to welcome you to the toy capital of the world..." Devere: "Cool it, punk. You're wilting my boutonniere."

  22. They were Honda CT90s in that episode - you can see some screengrabs at oldminibikes.com. (Whoops - we may have lost Roger to a motorbike forum )
  23. Thanks, Spike. I saw his name in the credits, but didn't get around to checking if it was the same guy.
  24. That's a weird coincidence - Adam-12 came up at the weekend as part of a discussion on a non-Dukes forum that I'm on. I think it was shown over here, but it was originally before my time, and I don't remember it being repeated when I was old enough to watch, so I'm not really familiar with the show. I found the episode we were discussing online - Reed and Malloy were deployed to patrol LAX on motorbikes, and seemed to make easy arrests every few minutes. I might check out a few more episode when I have time.
  25. I'm also quite good at looking stuff up.
