Well the NASCAR season won't start for another 61 days . . . *SIGH*. . . and I for one am anxious for the arrival of speed weeks. Or better yet for Daytona 500...NASCAR's Super Bowl race. I just checked Yahoo's Fantasy Auto Racing (NASCAR) and they say that the season has concluded (sigh) but will reopen in early January. Only a week or so away! Which got me somewhat excited...for a fresh start in fantasy sports. Though I did make it into the play off section for my fantasy football team... Tony Stewart and Ray Evernham's SRX series kicked off Saturday night at Stafford Motor Speedway. It started off non dramatic as all the driver's where feeling out the cars. Greg Biffle led all the laps and won Heat 1. Heat two saw a lot more action and the local "superstar" Doug Coby win after passing Michael Waltrip who led most of heat 2. Well the Nationwide Series raced at Daytona today and right before the checkered flag fell, a huge wreck forced Kyle Larson's car up into the fence. Injuring up to 28 fans...12 people getting rushed to the emergencey room...Tony Stewart went on to win the race. The accident There is a video and an article about the last lap accident...and that is one wicked wreck that left me in chills. Larson's engine was in the grandstand...his front part of his car was completely off. Glad to see him get out OK after that...he has to be shaken up and feel horrible about it. It's another Carl Edwards type wreck he had at Talledega. Just scary. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone…

I will posting the NASCAR Sprint Cup Point standings on this thread...as the title suggests. I will most likely do it on Monday or Tuesday seeing how NASCAR makes the point standings official on Monday...they do post them after the race, but they are unofficial. Just a small summary for the points. A driver can earn up to 48 points in a single race. They gain a point for each position that they gain...there is 43 drivers that start every race. The winning car will get 43 points, the last car will get one point. Well it may not be NASCAR and Jeff Gordon may not be in Indy, but did sit down and watched the Indianapolis 500 today and am glad I did. Anyone else watch it? If so, what you think? I thought it was exciting...but their late race restarts are just as crazy as they are in NASCAR. A lot of names were familiar to me. Well y'all it is that time of year again. Last night was NASCAR's Sprint Unlimited race...the pre season race that kicks off speed weeks. The race was accident filled that had started off with Brad Keselowski's accident when Kyle Larson went up the track and got into him. Later Greg Biffle got into the back of Jamie McMurray which collected Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Kasey Kahne and a few others. Later Greg Biffle got in another accident with Kevin Harvick got collected in a big accidents, Biffle hitting the wall hard. Matt Kenseth went on to win the race. After the race, Joey Logano got mad at Kevin Harvick and displayed his displeasure afterwards by bumping into him…

Well, I for one, am having a hard time believing that the 2010 NASCAR season is over and that I am left waiting three months until the next race. It just seems wrong not to have a race on to watch on Sundays! Well lucky for me that there is a few breaks in the off season that either have a preseason race or for this instance, the award ceremony. The NASCAR award ceremony will be in Las Vegas as it was last year and only the top ten drivers are allowed to be there. Hey Garrett (or anybody else who wants to chime in) I was having a discussion with my NASCAR friend earlier this week and the subject came up about how I struggle to find a driver to really get excited about. If only someone would get an orange 01 car, or even any colored 01 car, I would probably become a bigger more entusiastic fan. Being the biggest and most knowledgable Dale Jr fan I know, he pointed something out I never considered. Dale has southern boy roots just like the Duke boys and fewer and fewer of these guys do. Well being as addicted to NASCAR that I am, I subscribe to NASCAR Illustrated and look forward to each and every magazine. (TRPColtrane you may be interested in this month's magazine - for January. NASCAR and the entire world of racing has lost a legend as Dick Trickle died yesterday (May 16, 2013) of an apparent suicide as his body was found lying next to his truck at the cemetery where his granddaughter is buried. Trickle is a Wisconsin native where he raced short track (believed to have raced UP to a thousand races!) before moving onto North Carolina and to NASCAR. He was made rookie of the year in NASCAR at the age of 48...raced 303 NASCAR Cup races and yet the best finish he has gotten in NASCAR was third place. Since today (March 27) is the birthday of the greatest NASCAR driver of all time, Mr. Cale Yarborough, I thought it would be a great day to start a new NASCAR thread so here it is.
