LizzyJackson-Davenport
So last night it just wouldn't stop raining in Charlotte so they postponed it to Sunday at Noon. Pretty quiet day over all with mostly one car accidents bringing out the cautions. Bad days for Jimmy Johnson and Matt Kenseth. Kenseth couldn't stay away from the wall and got into it hard a few times eventually taking it to the garage after leading over 100 laps at the beginning of the race. Johnson on the other hand broke his engine, though I wasn't quite sure how and lost an oil belt taking him out 60 or 70 laps to go. Also hard day for Dale Jr. He was another one who couldn't stay away from the wall. Jr hit the wall due to oil or fluids on in one of the corners which brought out the eighth caution of the day. During that caution the first two cars stayed out, the first car coming down to pit road was Kyle Busch. Then for some stupid reason Kyle Larson turns down at the last second and Kyle Busch turned back up onto the race track and the two got into each other spinning Larson around and causing a bit of damage to both cars. It looked like of Larson hadn't turned down or if Busch hadn't turned up their strategy would have worked but Larson was also right at the commitment cone and both hit the cone when they collided. Both served a penalty for hitting the cone and Busch served another one for being too fast entering the pits. Sam Hornish Jr. lead for a while then gave up the lead with 34 laps to go to pit after staying out for more than 60 laps. He surrended the lead to Joey Logano who lead 227 laps. Quiet day for Jeff Gordon just grinding away and staying out of trouble. Results:1. Joey Logano2. Kevin Harvick3. Martin Truex. Jr.4. Denny Hamlin5. Kurt Busch6. Carl Edwards7. Austin Dillon8. HossC
Thanks for the review, Lizzy. I actually got to see most of the race today . The Larson/Busch incident was quite comical. I don't think that could happen in F1 because 1) they have to follow a safety car in single file, and 2) any cars entering the pits must be within a white line marked on the track. For safety reasons there's also a line on the pit exit. I've seen a few drivers penalized for crossing the exit line, but in today's Russian Grand Prix the stewards gave a driver a 5-second penalty for crossing the entry line. HossC
Thanks for updating us again, Lizzy. I did check the result, and was pleased to see Ricky Stenhouse Jr get a top 10 finish, but for me yesterday was all about the action in Texas. After rain prevented qualifying for the US Grand Prix on its usual Saturday slot, they managed a truncated session on Sunday morning, with the race in the afternoon. Lewis Hamilton started in second, but, despite claiming the lead at the first corner, slipped back to fourth as he struggled on the intermediate rain tires. As the race progressed, the track dried and the slick tires went on. First hindered and then helped by virtual and actual safety cars, Lewis worked his way back to second place behind his team mate Nico Rosberg. With less than 10 laps (of 56) to go, Nico made a mistake and Lewis took the lead, which he held to the checkered flag. With Lewis's nearest rival finishing third, the win was enough make him 2015 World Champion with three races still to go. He becomes only the second British driver to take three world titles, and the only British driver to take two of them back-to-back. He now has the same number as his hero, Ayrton Senna. In Formula 1, the only magnums they use to celebrate wins in Texas are filled with Champagne! LizzyJackson-Davenport
Okay back to Nascar. The first race of the eliminator round I only heard the last ten or so laps on the radio. However it was also a first. Well the first time Jeff Gordon won all year. All these commercials that I keep seeing keep saying one more start, one more race for him and I'm like he still has two more races before the end of the season but whatever. Results for the Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 from Martinsville are:http://www.nascar.com/en_us/sprint-cup-series/standings/results/2015/goodys-headache-relief-shot-500.html The race from this past Sunday, I saw like the last 30 laps or so when Keslowski was out front and then with like ten or so to go Jimmy Johnson took over and took off so the 2 wasn't able to catch him. They had a running score card on the side of the screen showing the chase standings and with Keslowski in the lead Kyle Busch was in fourth with like one point above the cut line then Jimmy swoops in for the lead and Keslowski drops down to like sixth in chase standings and Kyle's up to second like 33 points ahead. It's amazing how fast that can change things. Results for the AAA Texas 500 from (kinda redundant) Texas (if you couldn't guess that from the name):http://www.nascar.com/en_us/sprint-cup-series/standings/results/2015/aaa-texas-500.html Next race, and the last in the Eliminator Round will be the Quicken Loans Race for Hero's 500 from Phoenix will be Sunday November 15th at 2:30 pm ET on NBC. On a minor side note, I love racing as much as the next person but doesn't it seem that it's going longer into the year than usual?
Spike
Current 36 race schedule has been used since 2001 though we lost a few great tracks just so other lame tracks could have an extra date, 1999-2000 was 34 races before then it varied 29-32 races a year. I'm glad Jeff Gordon won @ Martinsville but what Matt Kenseth did was just stupid, glad Nascar parked him for 2 races. This is the first year in a long time where I didn't care to watch all the races, the Chase is such a joke as of late and with Nascar changing the rules every week it feels like watching "Pro" wrestling. Look what they did @ Talladega Greg Biffle was leading and Nascar dragged the caution out till he ran out of fuel then all of the sudden "we're going green this lap" The finish of that race felt like WWE's Royal Rumble match. LizzyJackson-Davenport
So for those of you that don't already know the Quicken Loans Race for Hero's 500 from Phoenix ended like this: http://www.nascar.com/en_us/sprint-cup-series/standings/results/2015/quicken-loans-race-for-heroes-500.html Which left Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch, and Martin Truex Jr. in the race for the championship. They said he couldn't do it, most people find it unfair that he did do it, but in the end Kyle Busch overcame the Improbable odds and won the Championship. The race for the chase championship results from Homestead-Miami raceway are posted here:http://www.nascar.com/en_us/sprint-cup-series/standings/results/2015/ford-ecoboost-400.html As you can see Kyle won the race and the other three contenders landed Kevin Harvick in second, Jeff Gordon in 6th, and Martin Truex jr. in 12th. Spike
Yep Brian France has finally made the Nascar Cup Championship about as legitimate as a WWE Championship. At least there is other legitimate American motorsports such as ARCA, IMSA, Indycar SCCA Etc... Sad part is France wants to use the chase BS for the Xfinity and CW Truck series next year. Unless Brian France is ousted I wouldn't doubt Nascar will lose a lot of money and huge fan base within the next few years. Almost every single race this year has seen 0.5 million+ less viewers and that will probably continue next year as well.
