New Users Guide

This topic will include instructions on how to get around in the new forums. A lot of the functionality will remain the same, but there are some changes. Also, for those of you who have been exploring and would like to share what you've found, please chime in. How do I put a picture with my username? To set up a picture that appears with your username on the left hand side of the screen (known as an avatar), do the following: At the top of the forums page, click on profile. This will put you into your profile to edit. Down at the bottom you'll find the avatar thing. Currently, HNet does not have onsite avatars to choose from, you'll have to use a pic that is hosted offsite somewhere (such as photobucket). Type in the URL for the image(http://www.photobucket/somefolder/lotsapics/avatarforhnet.jpg) The program specs state that the avatar can't be more than 80X80 pixels and can't be more than 6KB. Please be aware that HazzardNet currently does not allow new user registrations from Hotmail email addresses. Unfortuantely, this is due to spamming of our forums from Hotmail accounts which was excessive enough that we had to ban ALL Hotmail email addresses. This policy has been in place for awhile now but we have had numerous folks who have tried to sign up at our forums lately who have been unable to because of the Hotmail email address. We apologize for the inconvenience and encourage users to set up email accounts at such places as Yahoo, Gmail, ect. Thank you.

We are imposing signature rules to improve the user experience on our boards. Some sigs are too large and cause viewing problems. Please edit your sigs to the pixel limits indicated in the control panel. Some sigs include links to external sites. If you want to include links to an external site, that's what the homepage field is for in your profile. Some users have been posting several useless messages that add very little to the discussions in order to get links to their site through their sig. This is considered spamming. Users who do this will have their sig disabled and unviewable in the forums. As a general rule, we do not allow links to external sites in the forums…

Howdy folks! MaryAnne here with some general guidelines for y'all on registering to use our forums. In the past the registration process has never been an issue, but as of late we here at HNet have noticed an increased amount of bounced emails from newly registered users and some long existing users. Granted, some of the bounced emails come from the spammers who try to join up and we're pretty diligent in stopping them and removing their accounts. However, we want to make sure that the folks out there who really want to use this board register correctly so they can use this board. Too dark for me, is there a way to light them up?

I have a friend who is having trouble signing up. He'd be able to see this thread though even without being a member so could you explain the sign up process Hoss or MM....or direct him to the right thread. Thanks...you know how low tech I am. I'm not sure what the problem is. I think it's the part where you have to prove you're not a robot.

Whenever I get a PM I see the first few words but then can't figure out what to click on to see the rest. I don't remember having this problem before but.....as y'all know...I'm bad with technology.

If anybody could help me I would appreciate it. I'm trying to find a thread from 2011 where they were trying to stop the original Dukes home in Georgia from being torn down. The grandson of the property owner was here on the HN updating us. Unfortunately they were unsuccessful and it was destroyed.

I don't even own a cell phone. I guess I'm a bit like Uncle Jesse I like to do things the old way. Well I guess not completely the old way, my wife got a tablet so I've been using it to do HazzardNet and I'm still getting used to it. I guess I feel like I belong here in the new users guide since this feels pretty new to me. This spell check thing drives me crazy. It corrects words that shouldn't be corrected like No. See that's supposed to be the name of Luke's cousin. It rymes with No. I guess I'll figure this out eventually

I am trying to add a picture to my signature, everything shows that is is uploaded and ready to use but it is not on the end of any of my posts. Am I doing something wrong? B.L.

I was thinking that the posts should be reversed, so that the first post is the one you see and that way you can read the entire thread and see the whole " Story" in the order as it was posted...see?

I'm new here but definitely not new to the Dukes Of Hazzard. I own all seven seasons on dvd plus I have the reunion movies. My favorite character is Bo and my second favorite is Daisy. Okay, I have a couple of questions for someone to answer for me, because it has been stumping/bugging me for a while: * Why are there green lights (on a distinguished road/unknown quantity) and red lights (can only hope to improve)? How do you get those lights, and if a red light, how can you make it a green light? * On the top right of a post, there is a picture of an (I forget the name, so I'm going to call it a "justice scale") icon that when you click it, you can talk about their reputation. It's to help authors and readers get to know what kind of Dukes of Hazzard fanfic is out there. This is not an author bashing club or story bashing club. Say I have another question, how do I set my profile so it'll automaticly get email notifications on replies?

Recently we had a user run into an issue with trying to use our chat function, which uses the Java application to run. The user uses a proxy server to access the site. As a result, the Java applet wouldn't load correctly. Users that use a proxy server should check out Java.com's help section on this issue here. http://www.java.com/en/download/help/5000040200.xml Apparently, browser settings need to be adjusted for proxy servers in order for Java applets to work. The staff at HNet cautions users on changing browser settings especially if you don't know what you're doing. I have seen some really cute smiley's on some of the threads but no idea how they got there because when I post there is no where to select a smiley except at the bottom of the post when typing it and that only puts an emoticon beside the topic heading. So where can I get smiley's in my posts? B.L.
