James Best / Rosco P. Coltrane

Jimmie died this morning at the age of 88, after a brief illness and double pneumonia. As many of you know, I was fortunate enough to know Jimmie personally. As soon as I have time to gather my thoughts, I will post something on the main page of Hazzardnet. In the meantime, feel free to leave your fond remembrances of him here.

I just got an interesting call from my son-in-law. He was at his doctor's (up here in Erie Pennsylvania) and they started talking about various subjects. His doctor told him that his best friend just bought a vacation home in South Carolina. He then asked my son-in-law if he was familiar with Rosco P Coltrane from the Dukes of Hazzard. When my son-in-law said yes and that his father-in-law is a Dukes superfan, the doctor explained that the home was owned by James Best. Hmmm, I wonder if Rosco left any of his paintings on the walls or in the attic.

There's been some great opportunties to meet ol' Rosco P. Coltrane this summer. If you haven't caught him ( or been caught by him) on any of his recent rounds, there's a few more chances this fall. Here ya go: September 9th - 10th 2006: The Marigold Festival Pekin, IL Stop by the Mineral Springs Park Pavilion to meet Mr. James Best and get his autograph on Saturday, September 9th, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. Question and Answer Session is on Sunday, September 10th from 1:00 to 1:30 pm, staying until 4:00 pm for more autographs. I was just checking out James Home page http://www.jamesbest.com/ and was reading up on his biography there. He is definatly a man of talent and has worked with some serious acting talent. One of Rosco's famous lines is, "Shame, shame, everyone knows your name." Does he say this line in either of the first two seasons? I don't recall hearing it when I watched the DVD.

Hi ya'll! I was flipping channels and ended up on TV Land and it hit me that Jimmie Best was on Andy Griffith! Geez, he was so cute there! Sounds a little different, but you can definately tell its him. My eyes popped and I started watching the episode. I did not know he could play the guitar though! It was a great episode. Some of his Rosco traits comes out. Awesome!!!!!!

While whatching the season 2 DVD I noticed that Rosco is replaced in a few of the episodes. I was just wondering the real reason why James Best was not in those episodes. Anyone know?

I just have bought a dollar copy of "Bad Man of Deadwood" and at first I didn't see James in the movie. But he is Newspaper publisher and he has a mustache, he is quite handsome in the movie don't forget he was a great deal younger than when he started on Dukes.

When my dad was seven his mother died and she left my dad, and his brother and baby sister.(She was only eight months old). My grandfather was a alcohic as well, and when my dad and his brother was six they was sent to Richmond, Indiana to the Worley Children's home to live and they stay there till they was eighteen and sixteen years old.

Just today I found this small interview/documentary from a Dutch TV show from 2002/2003 where they visit James Best. This was during the time the TV channel Veronica started re-airing the show which seemed to be quite a big deal. Thought it would be interesting to share. There's some parts which are in Dutch but most is English with some dutch subtitles or interesting video.

I am officially declaring this "James Best Weekend" on the HazzardNet. Sunday will mark 100 years since he was born. Post all your James Best tributes and trivia here. Especially you MM, the one amongst us who knew him Best.

I don't really know anything about music except older country but today I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and had to listen to some kind of rap-hip-hop type music. I don't really know any of those singers but my jaw dropped at what I heard. The song mentioned Rosco P Coltrane! I had the person replay it because I thought I was hearing things but sure enough, our favorite sheriff was mentioned. The CD was MTV party mix.....volume 4. The song was "they want efx" The artist was dar efx. dar efx is now officially my favorite hip hop artist. I'm not burning any of my Waylon CDs though.

The original "Killer Shrews" movie of 1959 was...well, so dang bad, it became a cult classic. James Best starred in the original movie, which is reason enough to watch it if you get the chance. Then, you'll be all set for the sequel, due out soon, "Return of the Killer Shrews!" Yes, shrews. Nasty lil' varmints. Eeek. Hey, if they attack by the tens of thousands, it's scary, right? You betcha. I'm normally not one for horror films, but as a lifelong Dukes of Hazzard fan, I can't pass up a movie that has James Best, Rick Hurst, and John Schneider in it.
