  1. I forgot to mention that I went to a local vintage car show yesterday. It was mainly all European models, with a couple of Japanese ones. I think the only US car was a bright red C3 Corvette. There were also about 20 tractors and two old fire engines shooting water back into the river. We had heavy rain on Saturday night, so it was a pleasant surprise that the sun came out for the show. The only downside was that half of these "vintage" cars were around when I was younger - it can make a person feel old!

Hungary for this week's F1, and after a poor start to the weekend on Friday, Mercedes found pace for qualifying yesterday with George Russell claiming his first pole. Team mate Lewis Hamilton was also looking quick, but qualified 7th after a DRS problem on his last lap. Red Bull also had qualifying problems with championship leader Max Verstappen losing power and Sergio Perez not even making the top ten - they started 10th and 11th. George got a good start and led the first 30 laps, but was eventually passed by Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. Then Max, who had fought through from 10th, took the lead, and despite a spin, he was able to keep it until the end. Lewis Hamilton waited until later in the race to use the soft tires, and managed to pass George to take second and take a point for fastest lap. George ended up third for Mercedes' second double podium in two weeks. With Charles having to change his slow hard tires late on, he could only finish sixth behind his team mate Carlos Sainz and the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez. Even the promised rain which only arrived on the last lap had no affect on the result. We now head into the summer break with the next race being the Belgian Grand Prix on August 28th. Max leads by 80 points (more than three race wins), but it's getting closer behind. There's only 32 points between Charles in second and Lewis in sixth. In the Constructors' Championship, Red Bull have a 97 point lead over Ferrari, but Mercedes are now only 30 points further back. There's a 205 point gap to the fourth-place team, Alpine, so it'll be between the top three. ETA. Sorry, I forgot to add a link to the highlights - you can watch them here.
  3. It's amazing what's possible with 3D printing these days - the Vector wheels look great. I can't wait to see how this turns out. Most of the model builds get posted in the Hobbies forum. Maybe you should start a thread there and either duplicate these early stages or link back here. If you do create a new thread, make sure you post a link to it here so people can follow your progress.
  4. Drinks It's a bank holiday here on Monday, so I gave him the weekend off.
  5. I found an article about someone who built a Bluesmobile replica. It says "The main difference between the '74 and '75 Monaco is the front grille".
  6. NEPHEW Boss (a sobriquet adopted by Hughie Hogg in 'Uncle Boss')
  7. Why would you go back to the Titanic, knowing the trauma ahead of you even if you survived? Go back and get the same experience sailing on the Titanic's sister ship, the Olympic. The Olympic sailed successfully for 24 years before being scrapped. Their other sister ship, the Britannic, had a career spanning less than two years after being converted to a hospital ship during WWI and sinking in the Aegean Sea with the loss of 30 lives when it hit a mine. The Olympic's definitely the one to set your time machine for if you want that White Star Line luxury.
  8. Welcome to HNet, Jim. One of us will have to moderate your next couple of posts, then you can post away with your project updates and anything else you want to comment on. If we're being pedantic, it was '75 Monaco that appeared in season 1, but I doubt that anyone will tell the difference at the scale you're building or the speed you'll be driving.
  9. Just to clear this up, Dan Fitzgerald was the driver of the truck carrying the slot machines who gets stopped by Daisy in her red bikini. Boss does have a driver in 'One Armed Bandits', but we don't get a good look at him. The first good look at Boss' driver that we get is as they're driving away from the recording studio in 'Daisy's Song' (S1E02). As Skipper says, it appears to be Gary Baxley. According to my notes, we don't find out that he's called Alex until 'The Rustlers' (S2E03). By then he's played by an unnamed actor. Alex even gets to speak in 'The Late J.D. Hogg', but still doesn't get an acting credit.
  10. It looks like Bobbie Faye Ferguson died on June 25th of natural causes at the age of 78. I think the news of her death may have been delayed for a while. The Fox News article below actually refers to her as the "‘Dallas’ and ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ actress" in the title. There are some more recent pictures in the article. https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/bobbie-faye-ferguson-dallas-dukes-hazzard-actress-dead Here she is 'Coy vs. Vance':
  11. That's 'Jude Emery' in season 2.
  12. KATHRINE Baumann (Played one of the strippers in 'Arrest Jesse Duke') In his last movie, 'Liar Liar', he played Judge Marshall Stevens. The movie also featured Christopher Mayer. Sadly, both Jason and Christopher died in their late-50s (58 and 57 respectively).
  13. Rugby (Heineken sponsors the European Rugby Champions Cup, AKA the Heineken Champions Cup) Keep it simple, Skipper. Remember that someone has to reply to your post. "Vampire" would have been sufficient.
  14. FRANCEE and FLORALEE (Twins from 'Arrest Jesse Duke')
  15. DEPUTY Coogan (Played by Michael Alldredge in 'The Ransom of Hazzard County')

Hey, Spike, how does that sort of decision go over with the fans? It hasn't happened for a while in F1, but drivers have been disqualified for technical infringements after the race, sometimes many hours after it, and it always seems a shame that a great result can be marred by something that the driver knew nothing about. It's always better when the result is determined on the track.

This week's French Grand Prix saw Ferrari's Charles Leclerc start on pole again, with the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez behind. Charles' team mate, Carlos Sainz, had to start in 19th after penalties for changing engine parts. Lewis Hamilton got a good start from fourth and got past Sergio. For the first third of the race it looked like Charles had the better of Max, with Max having to pit from second. Then, just a couple of laps later, Charles lost the rear end of his car and ended up in the barrier. Carlos made good progress through the field, but had to pit for tires with 10 laps to go. He also picked up a 5-second penalty earlier for an unsafe pit release. In the end it was a relatively easy win for Max, who now has a 63 point lead in the championship. Lewis improved on his last three third place results by finishing in second, and his team mate, George Russell, jumped Sergio after a late virtual safety car to join Lewis on the podium. You can see the race highlights here. Next week it's the Hungarian Grand Prix.
  20. Sorrell Booke had a Master of Fine Arts from the YALE School of Drama
  21. The episode was called 'The Price of Tomatoes (S4E25), and Denver played a tomato famer called Titus Purcell. It originally aired on March 1st, 1968 (incidentally, Cathy's 14th birthday). I'd have to disagree about Denver's look - as Briscoe Darling, Denver had a mustache, whereas Titus Purcell had a full beard with a little color in it, so he looked like a younger Uncle Jesse. You can see the whole episode below: As far as I know, neither 'The Andy Griffith Show' or 'Gomer Pyle: USMC' were shown in the UK. I'm familiar with the former through HNet, and the latter only after I investigated Jim Nabors' appearance in 'Cannonball Run II' as Pvt. Homer Lyle (another Cathy connection, although I don't remember Jim and Cathy having any scenes together). It may surprise (or as Gomer would say, "Surprise, surprise, surprise!") many Americans that some of their biggest shows didn't air much if at all outside the US, so the references in movies are often lost on us over here. I found an article called 7 huge US pop-culture touchstones UK viewers just don't get which lists some of them. 'Gilligan's Island' is #1 and 'Gomer Pyle' is #7. Obviously things have changed with the internet giving us access to clips and whole shows, but we still have to look them up.
