It was a slightly different race in Monaco yesterday. Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc had put his Ferrari on pole, and was about to do an even quicker lap when Red Bull's Sergio Perez had a minor crash which resulted in the final qualifying session being red-flagged. Behind him on the grid were his team mate, Carlos Sainz Jr. and the two Red Bulls. Rain had been predicted, and minutes before the race started, the rain came down heavily. The race was initially delayed for about 10-15 minutes, and then started behind the safety car. They only completed a lap before the red flag came out. It wasn't until about 45 minutes later that the race proper finally got under way, and even then, two cars had minor incidents behind the safety car. Because of the wet start, all cars had to start on full wet tires, which meant it was up to the drivers and teams to decide when to gamble on intermediate or even slick tires as the track dried. Due to bad strategy by his team, Leclerc went from first to fourth in the pit stops after leading in the early stages, and Sergio Perez got his third F1 victory. Carlos Sainz Jr. was second, and Max Verstappen extended his championship lead in third. Mercedes' George Russell was best of the rest in fifth. Mick Schumacher (son of Michael) had a bad crash on lap 27 where his car split in two, but he walked away unhurt. You can see the highlights here.

The Spanish Grand Prix earlier today had its fair share of action. Mercedes finally seem to have sorted their problems with their cars "porpoising" on the straights, and qualified 4th and 6th amongst the Ferraris and Red Bulls. Lewis Hamilton got a puncture due to contact on the first lap, and slipped back to last-but-one. Both Max Verstappen in the Red Bull and Carlos Sainz Jnr in the Ferrari had spins caused by crosswinds which lost them a few places. George Russell in the second Mercedes did very well at keeping the Red Bulls behind him for many laps despite having a slightly slower car. Charles Leclerc went into the race leading the championship, and started on pole, but his Ferrari's engine lost power when he was in a comfortable lead, and he had to retire. In the end, Max Verstappen won to take the championship lead, despite his car having intermittent DRS problems. His team mate, Sergio Perez, finished second, and George Russell finished an impressive third. Lewis Hamilton battled back from 19th to fourth, but had to slow for the last few laps because his car was overheating, so eventually finished fifth behind Carlos Sainz Jnr. Lewis' former team mate, Valtteri Bottas, had a good race with his Alfa Romeo finishing sixth. You can see the highlights here. It's off to Monte Carlo next week for the Monaco Grand Prix.

  14. spare I know the term, but I've never seen one. I'm not a great bowler, and I think I may have had two strikes in a row once or twice. I haven't been bowling since before Covid - our local bowling alley still has photos of Bruce Springsteen's visit there 9 years ago.
