F1 has been using single lug rims for decades (it's one of the reasons that F1 pit stops can be so quick), but they still cause problems from time to time. It's been a while since a car left the pits with a loose wheel that subsequently came off, but there were several cases last year where teams either struggled to get lug nuts undone or cross-threaded them putting wheels on. P.S. Thanks for including Jacques Villeneuve's finishing position, Spike.
  2. A bit of context would help, as well as indicating that two different people are speaking (I don't think their characters are named). Here's the scene where Bandit asks Hot Pants Hilliard to hold up the pursuing police cars. The quote above appears at about 1:50. I did (see at about 1:05 in the video below). I also noticed that the helicopter following them disappears just before they get to the fairgrounds. You'd have thought they'd be needed most when the cars on the ground were blocked. The Atlanta patrol cars at the fairgrounds are similar, albeit older models, to the ones in 'Daisy's Song' (below). The badges appear to be realistic for the Atlanta cars of the time, although the real ones had a number in the white rectangle.
  3. I had a similar problem after the update. When I went from the homepage to the forum page, my username was in the top corner and it would show any notifications I had, but as soon as I clicked on anything, I was logged out. The only way it would let me log in again was by clearing the cache and cookies. I'm using Firefox.
  4. Last time Roger was here he said he was back from Akron and was having his grandchildren over for the night, so no clues there. Having said that, he has been known to take a break from the internet from time to time.
  5. Tomato You nearly got it right, Hobie.

Well, Lewis Hamilton announced yesterday that he will be racing in this year's F1.
  7. Ireland and the UK are currently being hit by Storm Eunice. Some parts have received a red weather warning. About 80,000 homes are without power in Ireland, and flights and ferries have been cancelled. Even some schools have closed. We're only in an orange alert where I live, and so far the day's been quite nice and sunny with scattered showers and gusty winds. It was calm and dry when I started this post, and just as I was about to press "Submit Reply", I looked out of the window to see almost sideways hail. A couple of minutes later, and it's almost over. I guess the rest of the day will be the same.

Jacques Villeneuve, there's a name I've hardly heard since he left F1 (I don't get to see IndyCar). He's not doing bad considering he's nearly as old as me.

Michael Masi, the F1 race director who screwed up last year's championship by failing to follow the rules at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, has been removed from his post. Two new race directors will now alternate in the role, and teams will no longer be able to communicate directly with the race director. The full report won't be published until the season-opening race in Bahrain on March 19th, and I still haven't seen any word on whether Lewis Hamilton is competing this year.

That looks fun - I wonder what the race would've been like without the rule change.
  11. Bob's family have just revealed that before he died, he received an accidental blow to the back of his head, thought nothing of it and went to sleep. Authorities have concluded that drugs and alcohol were not involved in his death.
  12. The house from The Waltons appearing in Dukes is mentioned in the Hazzard Square thread. If I remember correctly, it was in the trees at the north of the Warner Ranch. I remember researching the location, but I'm not sure if I ever posted it. The Waltons episode 'The Townie' was partly filmed on Midwest Street aka. Hazzard Square. You can see pictures here and here (both in the Hazzard Square thread). The Duke Farm and Boar's Nest appearances in Knight Rider are covered here and here respectively in the Valencia Oaks Movie Ranch thread. Indian Dunes, with a mention of Knight Rider, is discussed here in the Hazzard Square thread (there are a couple of broken link in this post that I'll need to try to fix). Knight Rider also filmed at Saugus Speedway, which featured is several Dukes episodes including 'Dukes Meet Cale Yarborough', 'Hazzard Connection' and 'Carnival of Thrills'. There was also a Knight Rider episode, 'Give Me Liberty... or Give Me Death', which featured an orange '69 Dodge Charger that ran on moonshine. You can see screengrabs in The Dukes of Mexico thread.
  13. Moody (Linked to a different Turk) I've seen it written down!
  14. Just FYI, the Snows are Cledus and Waynette.

I didn't get to see any of the action, but it sounds a mess. I'll have to read up on what they were trying to achieve. F1 wanted to increase the number of sprint race qualifying events from three to six this year, saying that they increased audience figures and income, but several teams wanted the budget cap increased before agreeing, so they'll probably only be three again this year. I can't say that I was a huge fan of them. There's only just over a month to the start of the 2022 F1 season, and I'm not feeling any of the usual excitement and anticipation this year. I should've been looking forward to seeing a great fight between two Britons at Mercedes: 8-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and very talented youngster George Russell, but Hamilton was denied his 8th title in the debacle at the last race of 2021 in Abu Dhabi (see my previous posts), and he hasn't even decided if he's racing this year. After following the sport since the mid-80s, I may have to find something else to watch. You reminded me of this proverb which I came across last week. I've no idea if it's genuine, but from the context, I think it was directed at the British PM: "When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn't become a king. The palace becomes a circus." Disclaimer: I'm aware that we don't discuss politics here. I gave the context for reference, but did not include my opinion!
  16. You missed out some of Buford's best lines from that scene! It's when Buford and Junior find Carrie's abandoned car, which is in the process of being stripped by three punks. [Buford and Junior approach, unheard by the punks. Buford lights a cigarette and then loudly snaps his lighter shut] Buford: Hold up on that car wash, gentlemen. [To the first punk] Come here, son. [He knees the punk, who falls to the ground] Whoops! You look tired, boy. Rest yourself. [To the other punks] You punks look tuckered out, too. [All three punks turn and place their hands on the car. Buford kicks the third punk's backside] That's an attention-getter. Now, a lady in a weddin' gown. Punk #3: Yes, sir. Buford: Get in a car? Punk #3: Yes, sir. Buford: See who was drivin'? Punk #3: N-no, sir. Buford: Licence plate? Punk #1: Y-yes, sir. Georgia plates. "Ban-one." B-A-N dash O-N-E. Buford: All right. Now, you boys just stay here and watch the car. There might be some vandals around who wanna steal somethin', so you boys just stay here and keep your hands on the car until one of my associates arrive. And don't go home, don't go to eat, and don't play with yourself. It wouldn't look nice on my highway. Oh, you can think about it, but don't do it. [Buford and Junior leave] Punk #3: Hey, man, he's gone. Let's get outta here. Punk #2: S**t! You do what you want. I'm stayin' right here.
  17. In Ireland, Paddy is a very common familiar name for people called Patrick (which is the Anglicized version of the name Pádraig). That's why St. Patrick's Day is normally called Paddy's Day (never call it Patty's Day to an Irishman!). The Irish also have a sense of humor about Paddy wagons - for over 20 years there's been a Dublin-based company offering bus tours of Ireland that goes by the names Paddywagon Tours. They have green buses with the name plastered down the side in big letters.
  18. Due to my home internet provider being slow to update its website address list, I only realized that HazzardNet was back online when I checked it on my phone (my computer was still showing the "Currently undergoing maintenance" screen). Everything's back to normal now, and MM's given me a workaround if it happens again - thanks, MM.
  19. Thanks, Roger, you've inadvertently given me an earworm. Why? Snow's debut album in 1993 was called "12 Inches of Snow".
  20. Sinners (Another musical connection for me. I don't know if Paddy Casey is known in the US, but this song got a lot of plays on the radio when I first moved here)
