  1. Apparently we do, although I don't have anything but the free TV channels and an extensive DVD collection.
  2. Can I point out that this is the Hazzard Square thread which lists filming locations. I don't know why it's being used to discuss other issues when there are places for that elsewhere on HNet.

I wasn't familiar with 'Drift Away', but found that I had it on a compilation album. It's very different to 'The "In" Crowd', but I liked it. Here's Waylon's version:
  5. There's been a Gordon Bennett race here in Ireland since 1903 - see here. There's a memorial to the race by the R418 a few miles north-east of Athy in Co. Kildare. I drove past it two weeks ago, but I've never stopped to look at it. You can read more here.

This is the only Dobie Gray song I know. I like it, but can't call myself a fan if I don't know any others.
  7. Well it wasn't me.
  8. I'd never even heard that anyone thought picnic was a racist word. It appears that Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Robert McKinzie made the claim in 2019 before it was subsequently debunked by professors of language and African-American history. Yet another case of someone jumping to conclusions without all the facts. At least Cadbury's won't have have to change the name of their chocolate bar on the this side of the Atlantic!

That's pretty much why they introduced the DRS (Drag Reduction System) in F1. The aerodynamics of the modern cars leaves a hole in the air making it difficult to follow closely. Now, at certain places on each circuit (between 1 and 3 locations depending on the track), if a driver can get within a second of the car in front of them at the detection spot they can open a flap on the rear wing, which gives them a few km/h extra. However, on some tracks a DRS train forms behind a slightly slower car, and as everyone is within a second of the car in front of them, they all get DRS!

The first race of the F1 season took place yesterday in Bahrain, and it was pretty much a continuation of last year. Max Verstappen took pole and went on to win the race with his Red Bull team mate in second (albeit 22 seconds back). Behind them, the Ferraris, McLarens and Mercedes were all pretty close, although Mercedes had a battery issue which meant they couldn't show their full potential. Only a week to go until the next race in Saudi Arabia.
  12. I've never noticed either. I checked my DVD and the image isn't much clearer. My guess would be a member of the public keeping off the road as the cars go by, but it could've been a crew member keeping an eye on filming. It wouldn't be the only time that a crew member or equipment was visible in the show!

Just a reminder that Garrett started a commercials thread back in 2010 (it's been quiet for a while). I only had a quick look at the first page, and there are a few videos missing, but you'd expect that after 13 and a half years. You can find it here.

I would've thought that anyone who had it taped would avoid a thread called "NASCAR News" until they'd watched it. I don't have the pay channel that shows F1 races live, so I watch the highlights a few hours later and make sure that I don't listen to the news or look at any sports websites until I know the result.
  16. My curiosity got the better of me and I googled it, although I knew several of the other manufacturers acronyms I came across.
  17. Translate Yes, best not to post the full acronym, Hobie.
  18. All G8s were made in Australia (Elizabeth, South Australia to be precise) by Holden (Australia's arm of GM). They put a different grille on a Holden Commodore and called it a Pontiac.
  19. Australia The Pontiac G8 is a rebadged Holden Commodore (still looks like a great car). BTW. Spike, why do college girls drink gas on spring break?

It sounds like Dale Earnhardt Sr's death affected NASCAR in a similar way to which Ayrton Senna's death at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix affected F1. I still remember watching that race live even though it'll be the 30th anniversary later this year. BTW, Dale Earnhardt Sr passed away in 2001, so tomorrow is 23 years since his death.
  21. FWIW, you've posted "Sleepy CITY" three times including last night and "SLEEPY City" four times in the A-Z game. You also mentioned "Sleepy City" in another reply. The search feature on HNet works pretty well and it only takes seconds if you want to check. While you're viewing a thread it'll default to only searching that thread, so you don't get results from the whole site (unless you want to).
  22. Yes, you did in 2020 (here) and Roth Potter did in 2014 (here) - both in this thread, and in response to the same post.
  23. Didn't Jesse have a 1970 F-100 in 'High Octane'? They could've used that if they'd wanted.

I wouldn't be surprised if Garrett made this meme.
  25. Country singer Toby Keith has passed away at the age of 62. He had been diagnosed with stomach cancer back in 2022. For Dukes fans, he was also appeared as himself in the 2000 TV movie "The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood".
