  1. QUARANTINE (Plot line from 'Double Sting')
  2. There a meme that's been going around for a while now that says: If you think you are smarter than the previous generation...50 years ago the owners' manual of a car showed you how to adjust the valves. Today it warns you not to drink the contents of the battery. I'm not sure if it's true, but it kinda sums up the situation. As Spike says, a lot seem to expect a certain level of pay even when they're just starting out. One of the younger guys where I work is constantly asking how much extra he'll get for anything slightly out of the ordinary and wants his gas paid for if he has to drive to a site. There's another meme that says: If we all switched to cursive handwriting and manual transmissions, we could cripple an entire generation of idiots. I've also seen it with analogue clocks added into the list. Having said that, less and less new cars are available with a manual transmission (they've always been way less popular in the US compared to Europe), so do this generation need to know how to drive them? Things move on. There are plenty of things that this generation do in which I have no interest, e.g. paying for something with my phone. Over 50+ years I've developed ways of doing things that I know work. There may be better ways of doing them, but the old phrase about not being able to teach an old dog new tricks rings true sometimes!
  3. INDIAN Dunes (filming location) Can everyone please put the word they're playing in CAPITAL letters? It makes it a lot easier to see what letter we're up to.
  4. Rev. J.P. FRAWLEY (of Hazzard County Gospel Church) Elmo, Hughie's driver in 'Uncle Boss', Elmo, Cooter's DMV friend from "Hotlanta" in 'Close Call for Daisy', or Elmo, the bad guy played by Dennis Haskins in 'Cale Yarborough Comes to Hazzard'?
  5. Augie DETWEILLER Hobie, I changed your previous entry to capital letters just to make it clearer which word you were playing.
  6. Cale YARBOROUGH Comes to Hazzard
  7. I watched it once, but it must've been over 40 years ago. The captain was played by Laurence Naismith in 'A Night to Remember'. Fifteen years before 'Titanic', Bernard Hill played a very different character called Yosser Hughes in a gritty British drama series called 'Boys From the Black Stuff'. It followed the lives of five unemployed men in Liverpool in 1982. Here's Hughes as Yosser with what became a catchphrase of the time (UK unemployment hit 3 million around this time). His character also had a violent side, frequently head-butting people with what became known as a 'Yosser Kiss'.
  8. I can't remember the name of the show. It was a couple of years ago now.
  9. I've seen a documentary on the theory that there was a fire in one of the bunkers, and it was a convincing argument, but many experts don't seem to think that there was any such fire.
  10. RETURN of the RIDGE RAIDERS (Seeing as it's currently in my signature!)
  11. I looked up filming locations for Little House on the Prairie on IMDb, and the only two I recognized as Dukes filming locations were Lake Sherwood (apparently used for homestead exteriors) and Laramie Street at Warner Bros' Studios. Lake Sherwood was the more rural of these locations, but I haven't heard this story. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for sharing.
  12. Roth Potter's pictures are sadly no longer visible, but you can find this and dozens of other bloopers in the Mistakes (Bloopers)/Things I've Noticed About The Show thread.
  13. The following is an extract from a North Dakota State University article: The second paragraph's timeline ties in nicely with 'High Octane'.
  14. I'm sorry, Roger, I don't know the time-frame since we changed forum software (I think it used to be 10 minutes). It may be that new members have to attain a certain number of posts to be able to edit them. I can't easily test it myself since moderators can edit anyone's posts at any time!
  15. I've already played "Waylon JENNINGS", so now we need a "K".
  16. Waylon JENNINGS Until we get to the tricky letters, can we stick to words beginning with the appropriate letter. I've already deleted one reply that didn't follow the alphabet!
  17. The Georgia episodes were first, then they moved filming to California. The Warner Bros' back lot appeared in all seven seasons for the urban scenes, but rural scenes were filmed mainly on Disney's Golden Oaks Ranch, Lake Sherwood and Valencia Oaks Ranch in that order (as well as surrounding roads). There are several mentions of Golden Oaks in the Hazzard Square thread. We also discussed its use in the Herbie movies in this thread.
  18. Welcome to HNet, Danny. There were a few login issues after the last forum software update, but they're hopefully all sorted now.
  19. It may be a US expression, but it's well known over here too.
  20. Challenge (There's a long-running UK quiz show for universities called 'University Challenge') He was apparently called Professor Hinkle (thanks, Google!)
