  3. Here's a recipe for Bonfire Toffee. It's a traditional British candy, made especially in the north of England around Halloween and Bonfire Night. Ingredients: 12oz/300g demerara sugar (turbinado sugar should also work) 4oz/100g butter 2 level tablespoons of golden syrup 1 level tablespoon of black treacle/molasses 2 fl oz/4 tablespoons of water Method: 1) Put all the ingredients into a pan (the mixture bubbles, so use a big enough pan). 2) Heat slowly, stirring until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves. 3) Bring to the boil. Cover the pan, and boil gently for 2 minutes. 4) Uncover the pan, and continue to boil for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. 5) Test by dropping a little of the mixture into a cup of cold water. It should seperate into brittle threads. 6) Pour into a buttered 6in/15cm square tin, and leave to set. 7) Turn out on a board, and break up with a small hammer. Recipe makes about 1lb / 500g of toffee. When I was younger, it used to be sold in those old-fashioned candy stores with dozens of jars lining their shelves. Sadly there aren't many of them left .

Dice - Finley Quaye This is a beautiful song that features the talents of Beth Orton and William Orbit. Beth Orton's original version, Roll The Dice, first appeared on a 1993 album called 'Superpinkmandy', but sadly only 5000 copies were pressed for a Japan only release. That was unexpected, but brought a smile to my face - just what I was looking for.

  6. From Jeff Wayne's musical version of 'The War Of The Worlds'. It dates from the year before Dukes started, and I still have my original double LP version.

Kanye West - Stronger This song samples Harder Better Faster Stronger by Daft Punk (as used in the infamous Daft Hands video) which, in turn, samples Cola Bottle Baby by Edwin Birdsong.
  15. Lost Weekend - Lloyd Cole and the Commotions I've made a place for all your One Word Song Titles, so no need to use them here anymore .
  16. I'm not claiming this as my own, I found it somewhere on the internet. This guy has an interesting way to carve his pumpkins: I'd like to see Bo and Luke try that with bows and arrows .
  17. I haven't seen the film, but IMDb confirms Denver played Thimblerig (the Gambler) in 'The Alamo': http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053580/ I'll have to keep an eye out for it on TV.
  18. One word song titles seem to be unpopular in the Musical Chairs thread due to the way they limit the options. There are many great songs out there with only one word in their title (several came up on my MP3 player on my way home tonight), and quite a few of these are never likely to come up in Musical Chairs, so I thought I'd start this thread to collect some of these songs. Very simple rules: One words song titles only - there doesn't have to be any connection between posts. Limit yourself to one song per post. Include a link to the song if you can - not essential, but it's interesting to hear other peoples' taste in music. Feel free to include any comments or trivia about the songs and/or artists. I'll start with a song that needs no introduction:
  19. Safety Dance - Men Without Hats (Very odd medieval video for those who follow the links)
  20. Dance This Mess Around - B-52's
  21. GLG was closest there (2 years closer than Roger) - it was the hog cholera epidemic of '43. On to season 2 ... Q. In 'Gold Fever', how many bars of gold did H. H. Harkness say he had, and how much were they worth?
