  1. Thought I'd add some Oscar Wilde into the mix: "There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." "True friends stab you in the front." "Bigamy is having one wife too many. Monogamy is the same." "Always forgive your enemies - nothing annoys them so much." "America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between." "A cynic is a man who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing." "He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends." "I am not young enough to know everything." "I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train." "It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious." "Life is too important to be taken seriously." "Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth." "The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself." "Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong." "Work is the curse of the drinking classes."
  2. Sounds like you had a good time, Roger. I don't suppose you got any pictures?.
  3. Wow, that's pretty impressive MaryAnne. I know it's not polite to ask a lady her age, but that puts you in your late eighties right ?. You and Roger were right. Q. In 'Daisy's Song', what singing voice does Boss have in the choir?.
  4. Garrett, is there any precident for this size of fine. A couple of weeks back in F1, Ferrari got fined $100,000 for 'team orders'. Basically, in F1, the teams (each of 2 cars) cannot make one of their drivers give way to the other. Ferrari sent one of their drivers, Felipe Massa (who was in the lead), the radio message 'Fernando (his team mate) is faster than you. Do you understand?'. He subsequently let him by, and the authorities slapped them with the fine. This pales into insignificance compared to what happened to McLaren in 2007. They were found to be in possession of technical data belonging to rivals Ferrari. They got stripped of all their constructor's points (their drivers' points added together - drivers compete for the drivers' championship, teams for the constructors') and got fined $100 million.

  8. Texasdaisy was first, but everyone else was right too. Bo, the last of the big spenders, would give a whole nickel to find out. MaryAnne, sorry I didn't acknowledge your answer to the last question, but you posted while I was composing my reply so I didn't see your answer. Slightly outside the box this time: Q. In 'Strange Visitor to Hazzard', the bad guys plan to 'scare the overalls off those hicks...' by '... broadcasting emergency bulletins about invaders from another planet. Like that radio show years ago ... that started a riot.'. What famous incident are they referring to?.

  10. Thanks for your opinions there, Garrett. It seems odd that the announcement of the fine made big news, but details of the reason behind it trickled out slowly. From what I can see it was to do with the position of the car body relative to the frame exceeding tolerances. I'm sure everything is designed on computers nowadays, so they must have known if the car was illegal. I hate it when race results get changed due to slight technical infringements. It happens once in a while in F1. There's been a lot of scrutiny of Red Bull's front wing this season, with several other teams questioning the amount of flexibility. The FIA (governing body) have now introduced stricter testing, and Red Bull have changed their wing design, despite claiming it was legal all along. There was another case a few years ago when Honda got excluded for running their cars too light. The cars are weighed without fuel, but they argued that their cars had to keep a residual amount in the tank that should be included in calculations. I suppose this type of sport is now so technical, thousanths of a second make a difference, so everyone pushes the limits as far as they can. Inevitably, lines will get crossed occassionally. Much as I dislike it, I don't think this is the last time this sort of thing will happen.
  11. BL and Roger were spot on there. Thanks for the pic, MaryAnne. When the word 'ring' came up in the 'Word Association' thread last night, my first thought was 'donut', but Garrett posted 'telephone' before I saw it . Q. At the start of 'Mary Kaye's Baby', the boys are being pursued by Rosco and can't understand why. What does Bo say he'd give to find out?.

  13. Brian, if that was a guess, today's question is what are this week's lottery numbers . Sounds like an ideal candidate for YouTube - it could go viral. Daney - that is indeed the book. I had that link ready to post, and you beat me to it. Well done to everyone else who got it right. A nice easy one today: Q. In 'One Armed Bandits', how much is the cover charge at the Boars Nest, and why is it charged?.
