I ended up missing the last part of the race today, so thanks for the re-cap. I saw enough to see Ricky back out on track and making up places. In fact I saw it up to just after Danica's crash, and thought Ricky just stood a chance of beating her if her car damage proved terminal. I suppose I can't complain with 34th after being taken out on the first lap. Here's the full provisional results: 1 Kasey Kahne 2 Jeff Gordon 3 Kurt Busch 4 Ryan Newman 5 Dale Earnhardt Jr 6 Brad Keselowski 7 Joey Logano 8 Kyle Busch 9 Tony Stewart 10 Greg Biffle 11 Carl Edwards 12 Marcos Ambrose 13 Jimmie Johnson 14 Clint Bowyer 15 Martin Truex Jr 16 Jamie McMurray 17 Kevin Harvick 18 Mark Martin 19 Bobby Labonte 20 Aric Almirola 21 David Ragan 22 Matt Kenseth 23 Dave Blaney 24 Casey Mears 25 J.J. Yeley 26 Travis Kvapil 27 Timmy Hill 28 Juan Pablo Montoya 29 Landon Cassill 30 David Stremme 31 David Reutimann 32 Paul Menard 33 AJ Allmendinger 34 Ricky Stenhouse Jr 35 Danica Patrick 36 Jeff Burton 37 Joe Nemechek 38 Tony Raines 39 David Gilliland 40 Michael McDowell 41 Josh Wise 42 Alex Kennedy 43 Denny Hamlin

So, the number 42 proves to be significant for Ricky as it's the number of the car that hits him on the first lap .

The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread
HossC replied to Meadowmufn's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Trivia
I'll sneak a quick two-part question in while Roger's not looking. Easy: Which one of the counties below is not mentioned in any episode? Hard: What is the connection between the odd-one-out and the Dukes of Hazzard? Chickasaw County Choctaw County Hatchapee County Newton County Osage County Riverton County- 3,820 replies

Well, 42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything. (If you don't believe me, try Googling it )

Tomorrow's race is the GoBowling.com 400 from Pocono Raceway. I didn't get to see the qualifying this week, but it looks like they just managed to squeeze it in around the rain that affected both practice sessions. Here's the starting line-up according to NASCAR.com: 1 Jimmie Johnson 2 Kyle Busch 3 Carl Edwards 4 Ryan Newman 5 Kurt Busch 6 Joey Logano 7 Greg Biffle 8 Marcos Ambrose 9 Denny Hamlin 10 Aric Almirola 11 Brad Keselowski 12 Jamie McMurray 13 Jeff Burton 14 Kevin Harvick 15 AJ Allmendinger 16 Clint Bowyer 17 Ricky Stenhouse Jr 18 Kasey Kahne 19 Juan Pablo Montoya 20 Tony Stewart 21 Paul Menard 22 Jeff Gordon 23 Travis Kvapil 24 Matt Kenseth 25 Dale Earnhardt Jr 26 Martin Truex Jr 27 Michael McDowell 28 Mark Martin 29 Casey Mears 30 David Ragan 31 David Stremme 32 Dave Blaney 33 Bobby Labonte 34 Danica Patrick 35 David Reutimann 36 J.J. The English language is a sponge for words from other languages, and with the Netherlands being so close to England, it's hardly surprising that some words come across. After posting the Malcolm McLaren video I looked up "Double Dutch" as it also means a language that can't be understood. According to this article it was originally a slur on the Germans and refers to High Dutch. Amongst the 'Dutch' references it mentions are: Dutch cheese; Dutch barns; Dutch ovens; Dutch courage; Dutch treat; Hollandaise sause. We do have phrases that include other nationalities eg. French fries and French toast, but there are a lot of phrases with "Dutch" in them, and for that I have no answer. BTW I noticed a few English words creeping into the commentary on the F1 video you posted ("hairpin", "oversteer" etc.) - are there many English words used in Dutch? I am also an F1 fan, so I would love to go to Hockenheimring as well. Is your number one location driving the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring?

Are you going to tell us where you went? I think it might be a publicity shot on an old car ride at a theme park. The one below is at Gilroy Gardens - it's not exactly the same, but it gives you an idea of what I mean. If you look over John's shoulder there appears to be another car behind and a track between the two cars. Source: themeparkreview.com It could've been shot when they filmed 'Lulu's Gone Away' at Six Flags Magic Mountain. I can only find the tiny picture below on their site: Source: www.sixflags.com/magicmountain I'd call it skipping. In British English he's using a skipping rope, in US English it's a jump rope. Get two people swinging two ropes between them and another person jumping and it's called Double Dutch . BTW. I agree with you about the Rolls Royce from '10 Million Dollar Sheriff'.

Thanks Roger, but I have a thicker skin than to be offended by jokey comments like the ones in Dukes (hence the smiley). It was not uncommon for US shows in the '80s to make similar comments eg. the 'Cheers' episodes surrounding John Cleese's English psychiatrist or the crooked English businessman called Robin. If you guys watched more of our shows instead of remaking them, I'm sure you'd see that it works both ways. At least the writers of 'The Big Bang Theory' have finally got it right. The following exchange comes from the episode called 'The 43 Peculiarity' when Leonard finds that Penny has an English study partner: Penny: Would you stop? Look, he just moved here from London, okay? He doesn’t really know anybody. Leonard: Oh, good, an English accent, the sexiest accent you can have. Penny: No. That’s not true. There’s French, there’s Italian. No, you’re right, it’s the best. BTW. I never understood why you guys still celebrate the Fourth of July and commemorate rejecting the best rulers your country's ever had .

Sadly, one of the only Englishmen to ever be on the show ended up being a bad guy. That episode also included dialog like this: "He's Duke Gaylord Duke, an Englishman." "Foreigner?" "Yeah, from England." "That's a foreigner." and "Cousin Gaylord is an Englishman." "Well, we all can't be perfect." Maybe Dukes was a racist show after all . BTW. Although Iggins (from 'Southern Comfurts') was meant to be a stereotypical English butler, Bernard Fox was actually born in Wales. Roger Blevins was played by Simon MacCorkindale. After the previous post I decided to Google the name "Roger Blevins", and quite a few police department mug-shots showed up in the image search. I also found a band from Austin, TX called 'Mingo Fishtrap' that has members named Roger Blevins Jr. and Roger Blevins Sr.

When he's not at his apartments in Los Angeles : Built in 1924, they still stand at 3355 Wilshire Boulevard.

I haven't been to one for a while as they don't have any here, but it looks like they just put "Wetherspoon" in big letters on the outside and save the "JD Wetherspoon" name for window signs, menus etc.:

Shine I found a recording in YouTube that's over 100 years old:

Cooter's Garage is actually off to the left of these shots. These pictures were both taken from outside the house on the corner of Hazzard Square (sometimes used as a boarding house), roughly where the white pickup is in the picture below: Here's a shot from 'The Ghost of General Lee' that shows how the courthouse looks from Cooter's:

There's a well-known pub chain in the UK that's commonly known as Wetherspoon's. They have nearly 1,000 premises, and many occupy unusual buildings such as old banks, post offices and cinemas. What I didn't know until a few minutes ago is that there's a Dukes tie-in with their name. The full name of the company is JD Wetherspoon, and, according to their own website, the name Wetherspoon comes from a teacher of the chain's founder (who reportedly told him he'd never amount to anything), while the "JD" part comes from a certain J.D. Hogg. You can see the about page from their website here. From Wikipedia, here's an ex-cinema building in Liverpool: I guess it's true that you learn something new every day.

The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread

I've looked at this question twice and I'm still stumped. Just because it made me laugh, I'm going for E) champion wrestler. It's pretty much a North American thing. There's a dance held near the end of the last year of high school, and the students vote for a prom king and queen. There was no equivalent when I was at school in the UK. Here in Ireland they hold a similar event called the "debs", but I don't think they have kings and queens. You can read more about proms on Wikipedia.- 3,820 replies

I would've posted this earlier, but I've been listening to it three or four times since I looked up the YouTube link . From the 1988 album 'Let It Bee': What You Have Is Enough - Voice Of The Beehive

You forgot Ricky Stenhouse Jr. started 25th and finished 25th . Trevor Bayne also started 28th and finished 28th - there may be others.
-
Actually, I think you'll find it's Stewart-Haas Racing .
-
I'm going to have to pay more attention tomorrow. I tuned in for the end of today's qualifying and could've sworn the commentator said that Ryan Newman was driving for Stewart-Hoss, and I started to worry that I should've been at Indianapolis to watch my driver . TNT are showing 'Rush Hour 3' with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker at that time - I know what I'll be watching . BTW. If you do have NBCSP, you'll be able to watch the Hungarian Grand Prix at 1 PM EST.

I've been looking at the USC Digital Library recently, viewing some fascinating pictures of Los Angeles. As well as photos, there's also a load of archived copies of the Daily Trojan newspaper, so I thought I'd search for Dukes related stuff (spurred on by Roth's TV guide listings). All of the following images are from the USC Digital Library. 1981 Nielsen ratings (I had to rearrange the layout on this one): Rick Hurst takes some time off to answer students' questions: Tom Wopat sings! You can put me down for tickets for a couple of the other shows as well : Preview of the second TV movie with mention of the NAACP protests. Sadly, no one told them that Sorrell passed away six years earlier:

Apart from a couple of brief, heavy thunder storms, we've had two or three weeks of sunny weather here, so it got me thinking of summer songs. This is another one-hit-wonder, and it topped the UK charts for a week in 1975. All that remains is for me to welcome you aboard Coconut Airways flight 372 to Bridgetown, Barbados. Barbados - Typically Tropical Just for Roth, the song was covered/re-worked in 1998 by Dutch dance band Vengaboys. Their version was called (they use a very dubious pronunciation of Ibiza).
