The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread
HossC replied to Meadowmufn's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Trivia
I'm going to guess that it's Ma Harper. If I'm right, then I remember her stealing Cooter's race car, and Al Wyatt Jr being one of her sons, but I can't remember the actress's name or the episode (I'm thinking season 3 or 4). Hence the apology for picking the original picture. All the others look too similar .- 3,832 replies

Looks like only it's Roger playing this one. Roger, you're correct, it's Lindsay Bloom aka. Myrtle/Maybelle/Mabel Tillingham. Apologies to Lindsay - I deliberately picked a slightly unflattering picture because I thought most of the others I came across would be too easy. Below is Lindsay's current profile picture from her Facebook page: Maybe I should've gone with the picture below from Mike Hammer when Lindsay was brunette: Picture from toutlecine.com. Original mystery picture from medicalmusical.com.- 3,832 replies

Someone asked, and was told "as for price, keep bidding". I think the sale was run through the Ebay account of Byron's agent, Mark Van Woert, who has posted on HNet before with the username markjvanwoert. In case you've missed his previous posts, he also represents Sonny Shroyer and Don Pedro Colley, as well as working as an actor/director/producer under the name Markus James.
-
Just to update y'all, the bidding only reached $30,850, which didn't mean the reserve.

Two things make me think that this wasn't for 'Carnival of Thrills'. Firstly, there's a reference to "J.R. Ruined?" which I'm guessing refers to Dallas, which used to follow Dukes on a Friday night in the US. 'Carnival of Thrills' was shown as a two-hour special on September 16, 1980, and there was no episode of Dallas shown that night (or even that month). Secondly, it says "New Time! Brand New!". According to 'The Dukes of Hazzard: The Unofficial Companion', the time slot changed midway through season 4. I can't find exactly when the time changed, but 'Dukescam Scam' is roughly midway and was shown on January 1, 1982, which seems like a good time for a new schedule. Having said that, while it fits with "Dukes Duped!", the description "Boss Hogg to wreck General Lee?" doesn't really fit that episode. Maybe it was 'Goodbye, General Lee', which aired on December 4, 1981. The Dallas episode that night was 'Five Dollars a Barrel'. IMDb.com gives the summary as "J.R. finds himself in financial hot water and must broker an extension of his loan. Cliff takes advantage of J.R.'s hot spot to get some concessions.", which could fit with the tagline above. Here's another Dukes related TV Guide listing that I found on Ebay: This one's obviously from during season 5 as Coy and Vance are in the picture. Other adverts in the same issue include new seasons/episodes of Cheers, Knight Rider, Matt Houston, and Tales of the Gold Monkey, amongst others.

Coincidentally, the final season of CHiPs (season 6, 1982/83) had an episode called 'The Spaceman Made Me Do It' where a young girl claims to be getting messages from an alien spacecraft, and another called 'Day of the Robot' where a robot is leant to the CHP for evaluation. Maybe it's just a sign that they're running out of ideas. From 'Day of the Robot', here's the "Maximum Efficiency Robotization Vector Series 1" or MERV for short:

Mickey Mouse Like these? Halloween is celebrated here. There's normally some fancy dress parties and the like. We've even imported the door-to-door begging with menaces, or "trick or treat" as I believe you call it. In the UK it comes just before Guy Fawkes Night (November 5), so you normally get a week of fireworks.

She's got a lovely smile and a blonde 18-year-old daughter - what's not to like . The TV Guide they're holding is May 1-7 1982, but I'd agree with you that the image looks later than that. Here's the cover and an inside page that I've tweaked from images I found on Ebay. Notice that the jump image is from 'Granny Annie' - I just can't get away from that woman .

Hi Brenton, welcome to HNet. I've only just discovered this first post of yours - sometimes the first ones can get a bit lost by the time they're moderated. I hope that doesn't put you off posting some more of your drawings, because this one is very impressive. Keep up the good work .

Congratulations on your post count, Roger. I'm sure that's really lucky (if 7 is your lucky number ). I'm going to sneak in another picture question. Here's a picture from 2011, showing a lady who appeared in more than one episode of Dukes - can you name her or her character?- 3,832 replies

I missed that comment about JG. The coverage of NASCAR is definitely different to F1, but they are quite different sports. They have less cars in F1, but more cameras, and some very slick editing at times. If you watch one of the F1 races on one of the older courses (contemporary with Watkins Glen where they used to race), maybe you'll see what I mean about the camera angles. You'll also notice an absence of features like "Crank it up" that the previous NASCAR broadcaster (was it FOX or TNT?) had each week. I also get frustrated by the frequency of commercial breaks. Today I nipped away from the screen when a commercial break started, and returned only a few minutes later, just in time for the next break. There can't have been more than two minutes of coverage between breaks! I wasn't suggesting that JG did anything illegal, and was sure I'd seen it before, but couldn't remember specific examples. It just looked dangerous to me with everything exposed - less crumple zone and nothing to contain a fire. BTW. the roof flaps may be on the roof, but the hood flaps are on the hood: "In the Gen-6 car, the roof flaps are much larger and the previous “cowl flaps†were moved onto the hood proper. The hood now extends up to the windshield and there is no cowl anymore." Full article here. Picture credit USA Today.

These aren't exactly "behind the scenes" pictures, but they are quite rare. They're a couple of pictures of Lurene Tuttle (aka. Granny Annie) that I found in the USC Digital Library. On the right is Lurene's 18-year-old daughter, Barbara Ruick. Barbara was also an actress; she appeared in several movies and TV shows in the '50s and '60s including 'Carousel' in 1956. Barbara was married to composer John Williams until her premature death in 1974. The caption says: "Contract approval, 28 August 1951. Lurene Tuttle (mother); Barbara Ruick -- 18 years (actress)." Larger versions available at USC Digital Library. Here's another picture of Lurene from around the same time. I posted it recently in the trivia thread:

Well that was a more exiting race than two weeks ago, and better than Sonoma (IMHO). I wish there were a few more road courses like Watkins Glen on the calendar. I guess I've got to be happy with Ricky's 18th place after starting 33rd and spending most of the race around 30th. Do you think Tony Stewart would've done any better than Max Papis's 15th? Nothing personal, Garrett, but I'm surprised that Jeff Gordon's car was allowed back on track with the whole front bodywork missing. Surely the exposed engine and wheels, coupled with the lack of the hood flaps if the car spins, must raise some safety issues. At least he wasn't going to suffer from overheating or a blocked grille . I think ESPN need to watch a few F1 races before locating their camera positions for next year's race. On road courses like Watkins Glen you can get better shots of overtaking with cameras mounted higher up and looking down on the action. This isn't really an issue on ovals as they have the stands to work from.

Did you tell the doctors that you run a Dukes of Hazzard website when they were looking for the cause of your headaches? Seriously though, I hope you're feeling better by now.

Here's the starting line-up for tomorrow's Cheez-it 355 at The Glen. 1. (9) Marcos Ambrose 2. (15) Clint Bowyer 3. (56) Martin Truex Jr. 4. (47) A.J. Allmendinger 5. (18) Kyle Busch 6. (1) Jamie McMurray 7. (27) Paul Menard 8. (2) Brad Keselowski 9. (22) Joey Logano 10. (20) Matt Kenseth 11. (42) Juan Pablo Montoya 12. (35) Michael McDowell 13. (78) Kurt Busch 14. (39) Ryan Newman 15. (55) Brian Vickers 16. (99) Carl Edwards 17. (16) Greg Biffle 18. (48) Jimmie Johnson 19. (5) Kasey Kahne 20. (11) Denny Hamlin 21. (38) David Gilliland 22. (31) Jeff Burton 23. (51) Owen Kelly 24. (33) Ron Fellows 25. (88) Dale Earnhardt Jr. 26. (29) Kevin Harvick 27. (32) Boris Said 28. (24) Jeff Gordon 29. (14) Max Papis 30. (13) Casey Mears 31. (34) David Ragan 32. (43) Aric Almirola 33. (17) Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 34. (36) Victor Gonzalez Jr. 35. (10) Danica Patrick 36. (83) David Reutimann 37. (19) Alex Kennedy 38. (93) Travis Kvapil 39. (30) David Stremme 40. (7) Dave Blaney 41. (40) Landon Cassill 42. (87) Tomy Drissi 43. (52) Brian Keselowski Just like Sonoma, the qualifying was done in groups. Tony Stewart's temporary replacement, Max Papis, starts in 29th (just behind some guy named Jeff Gordon ). Marcos Ambrose gets his first pole of the year, but he's usually strong at Watkins Glen. The ten top drivers all beat the previous lap record, proving the speed of the Gen-6 cars. I was suprised the see Keselowski's name at the bottom until I realized it was Brian and not Brad - he spun during qualifying and brings up the rear. The action at Watkins Glen International starts at 1:00 PM ET on ESPN.

It looks like Max Papis is more suited to road courses, and it will be interesting to see how he does in a good car. I wasn't trying to start an arguement, I just wasn't sure if you were aware of Max's racing history. I hope Elliott Sadler gets a go in Tony's car too.

Dukes hasn't been on TV in Ireland for a few years now, and even longer in the UK. One of the UK channels did show The Fall Guy last year, and has just started re-runs of Magnum PI and Kojak. I think the parent company owned the (now defunct) channel that last showed Dukes, so hopefully they'll get around to showing it again at some point in the future.

When I heard that JJ Cale had passed away last month, it was a name I knew, but I didn't really know much about him. I thought he was mainly a blues musician, but, according to Wikipedia, "Cale was one of the originators of the Tulsa Sound, a loose genre drawing on blues, rockabilly, country, and jazz influences." After hearing and enjoying some of his music earlier today, I thought I'd post a track as a tribute: Clyde - JJ Cale Cale impressed and influenced a lot of people with his style. Some of them include Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits), Eric Clapton (who covered two of his songs) and Neil Young (who remarked that of all the musicians he had ever heard, J.J. Cale and Jimi Hendrix were the two best electric guitar players). The song above was also covered by someone we're all familiar with: Clyde - Waylon Jennings R.I.P. John Weldon Cale (December 5, 1938 – July 26, 2013)

Now there's a name I remember. Max raced in F1, but I hadn't realized it was as far back as 1995 until I checked his Wikipedia page. He only competed in seven races, but brought money via sponsorship to the team - I wonder whether he still does. After his time in F1, he left for the USA, and has since competed in CART, IndyCar, Indy 500, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He's also competed seven times in the Le Mans 24 Hour race in France, picking up two second places and three third places. Garrett, I can understand why you'd want to see other drivers in Tony's car, but Max seems to have a reasonable racing pedigree.
