    Commercials

I missed this commercial the first time around, but, just like Haribo commercials above, it's getting a second showing. KittenSoft make a good argument that technology hasn't yet replaced paper .
  2. Sorry I didn't reply earlier - I've had a busy couple of days. Here's my two cents: Blogs? I doubt I'd use them, but I may read them. Gallery? It could be a good resource, although the current one has looked very untidy since the last major software update. Marketplace? We've had a few people selling stuff on HNet over the years (from memorabilia to celebrity-owned General Lee replicas), but I'm not sure we need a martketplace. I'd rather have the security of buying through a site like eBay, although a thread with links to items for sale might work. Wiki-type functionality? I like the idea of our own Dukes Wiki site. As Roth says, between us we could add some really detailed information. Chat room? I (we?) haven't used the chat room in ages - we didn't even have Christmas party chat this year! I don't think many of the chats I've been involved in have exceeded five users. Current color scheme? I like the current color scheme - it marks HNet out from other sites. The CSS got screwed up at the last upgrade, so some items, e.g. a user's homepage, have been hard to read, but generally I find it clear and easy to use. Whatever you decide, I'm glad you're keeping HNet going. Keep up the good work, MeadowMufn .
  3. Yes, it does. I nearly pointed it out in my original post. Here's how the car looked in the movie. Although I didn't get to see a Hazzard patrol car, there were a couple of police cars this year. This one had a sign on the rear fender saying "To Protect and Cruise" ... ... while this one said "To Punish and Enslave" .
  4. About three years ago, the All American Car, Truck & Bike Show moved from September to April, and I missed it! Then it seemed to clash with other events, so this is the first time I've been back since 2010. I saw pictures of one of the shows I missed in a magazine, and there was a Hazzard patrol car there. Sadly, it wasn't there this year. The General Lee was also absent, but one of the late arrivals was this yellow Road Runner just like Daisy drove in the early episodes. NB. I don't know any of the people in the pictures - it was virtually impossible getting shots without someone in the way! There was also a very clean 1973 Ford F-100 that would have suited Uncle Jesse if it had been white instead of blue, and a white Cadillac convertible that turned out to be a 1965 model (the interior was similar to Boss' even though it was red). Luckily, there were plenty of other cars I hadn't seen before, including this pair of Starsky and Hutch Gran Torinos complete with lights and sirens. One of my other favorites was this Vanishing Point Challenger. As well as the burnouts, they also used a pair of big rigs (it was a Mack and Ford for anyone who's interested) to rip a couple of compact cars apart. I nearly forgot - after seeing people eat them in movies and TV shows for years, I had my first corn dog today. We might have imported McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks etc., but it's the first time I've seen corn dogs for sale over here (the guy selling them was from Minnesota, and he wasn't aware of any other sellers). Now I've got to get me a chili dog and some grits .
  5. I just thought I'd mention that this week's race was rained out on Saturday, so it's currently scheduled to start at 1 PM ET today (Sunday). Joey Logano is on pole.
  6. Thanks for the tip-off, ale73. Here's Sorrell in the 1974 'Kung Fu' episode 'A Dream Within a Dream' where he played Sheriff Hodges. The mustache makes his character look similar to the one he played in 'Zero Intelligence' (above). I wondered whether these steps were anywhere familiar. As the camera pulled back, I realized that they were part of the courthouse that once stood at the north end of Laramie Street. It appeared in several episodes of Dukes, most commonly shot from the side where it was dressed as the coffin works. Finally, here's Sorrell in the saloon on Laramie Street. It wouldn't be until about a decade later that he'd finally got to own the Golden Palace Saloon (second picture) as Thadius B. Hogg in 'Go West, Young Dukes'. For those of y'all not familiar with Laramie Street, it's the old Western street that once stood on the eastern side of Warner Bros' backlot. It comes up several times on the Hazzard Square thread, with the main six posts on the subject starting here.
  7. I don't know if Garrett's doing a review of last week's race from the Bristol Motor Speedway, so I thought I'd post the results of the Food City 500 in Support of Steve Byrnes and Stand Up to Cancer. I didn't see the race, but I know it was badly delayed by rain. Matt Kenseth turned his pole into a win, with Garrett's Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon close behind. In fourth was Ricky Stenhouse Jr with (I think) his best finish of the season so far. There was also another top ten finish for Danica Patrick (I think she's just trying to prove Hobie wrong ). 1. Matt Kenseth 2. Jimmie Johnson 3. Jeff Gordon 4. Ricky Stenhouse Jr 5. Ryan Newman 6. Tony Stewart 7. Kyle Larson 8. Justin Allgaier 9. Danica Patrick 10. Austin Dillon 11. Paul Menard 12. Clint Bowyer 13. Aric Almirola 14. Jamie McMurray 15. Kurt Busch 16. Dale Earnhardt Jr 17. Brett Moffitt 18. David Gilliland 19. Sam Hornish Jr 20. Alex Bowman 21. Matt DiBenedetto 22. Michael McDowell 23. Michael Annett 24. Carl Edwards 25. Chris Buescher 26. Denny Hamlin 27. Cole Whitt 28. Trevor Bayne 29. Martin Truex Jr 30. Greg Biffle 31. Mike Bliss 32. J.J. Yeley 33. Alex Kennedy 34. AJ Allmendinger 35. Brad Keselowski 36. Casey Mears 37. Kasey Kahne 38. Kevin Harvick 39. Josh Wise 40. Joey Logano 41. David Ragan 42. Jeb Burton 43. Landon Cassill Qualifying for this week's race, the Toyota Owners 400 from Richmond takes place in a few hours. The race is tomorrow (Saturday) at 7 PM ET. In the preview show at NASCAR.com, Chris Rice is tipping Jeff Gordon for the win this week.

The commercial below for Ferrero Rocher first aired in the UK in the 1990s, but for some reason it became part of pop culture and has been parodied many times since. Even today, it's almost rude not to say "you are really spoiling us" when someone offers you one of these hazelnut chocolates .
  9. Monopoly All the property cards have the mortgage value on the back.
  10. Lettuce We have BLTs here too, Roger. In the UK, bacon means pretty much the same as in the US. In Ireland it can also mean boiled back bacon in dishes like bacon and cabbage. Ten years ago, most people here would have thought of the latter kind if you said bacon (the type you get in BLTs etc. was known as rashers), but nowadays bacon means both (probably helped by the menus of international fast food outlets!).
  11. Welcome to HNet, HIPCHIP. I hope you have a few of your friends' stories that you can share with us.
  12. Danica's 7th place was a great result, but it was from two weeks ago. Here's the full results from the Duck Commander 500 from the Texas Motor Speedway. 1. Jimmie Johnson 2. Kevin Harvick 3. Dale Earnhardt Jr 4. Joey Logano 5. Brad Keselowski 6. Jamie McMurray 7. Jeff Gordon 8. Kasey Kahne 9. Martin Truex Jr 10. Carl Edwards 11. Denny Hamlin 12. Ryan Newman 13. David Ragan 14. 13. I've just been reading through Jimmie's obituary on jamesbest.com. It contains some lovely tributes from Burt Reynolds, Dukes co-stars Tom Wopat, John Schneider, Sonny Shroyer, Rick Hurst and Ben Jones, and Dukes stuntman Corey Eubanks.
  14. Very sad news. Thanks for letting us know, Meadowmufn.

These cute commercials for Haribo Starmix originally came out last year, but they both seem to be getting shown again at the moment.
  16. For completeness, here's the full result from the STP 500 at Martinsville: 1. Denny Hamlin 2. Brad Keselowski 3. Joey Logano 4. Matt Kenseth 5. David Ragan 6. Martin Truex Jr 7. Danica Patrick 8. Kevin Harvick 9. Jeff Gordon 10. Jamie McMurray 11. Kasey Kahne 12. Aric Almirola 13. Clint Bowyer 14. Kurt Busch 15. Casey Mears 16. Regan Smith 17. Carl Edwards 18. 17. chart Living in Ireland, I sometimes get to eat an Irish Shepherd's Pie - but only when he's not looking .
  18. Shepherd Bavarian Motor Works is the correct English translation of Bayerische Motoren Werke (see Wikipedia). In English, BMW's headquarters are in Munich, Bavaria (München, Bayern in German). The Bavaria Beer name was only adopted in 1923 when three brothers of the fifth generation of Swinkels took over leadership and moved production to a larger brewery in Lieshout. The name refers to the type of beer - it's a pale lager which is brewed using techniques developed by brewers in Bavaria, Germany.
  19. Before this week's race at Martinsville, I thought I should post the results from last week's Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. I only saw the last few laps, and I assumed Garrett would post a review. Maybe those last laps were too upsetting for Garrett as Jeff Gordon stayed out to take the lead after a caution on lap 198 (of a scheduled 200). With the extra laps (there were 209 in the end), and the green-white-checkered finish, Gordon slipped back to finish 10th, the position he'd been in before the caution. The race was won by Brad Keselowski. Here's the full result. 1 Brad Keselowski 2 Kevin Harvick 3 Kurt Busch 4 Paul Menard 5 Ryan Newman 6 Dale Earnhardt Jr 7 Joey Logano 8 Martin Truex Jr 9 Jimmie Johnson 10 Jeff Gordon 11 Aric Almirola 12 Justin Allgaier 13 Carl Edwards 14 Tony Stewart 15 Ricky Stenhouse Jr 16 Austin Dillon 17 Kasey Kahne 18 David Ragan 19 Danica Patrick 20 Chris Buescher 21 Jamie McMurray 22 Brett Moffitt 23 Casey Mears 24 Cole Whitt 25 Landon Cassill 26 Kyle Larson 27 Brian Scott 28 Denny Hamlin 29 Trevor Bayne 30 Clint Bowyer 31 Matt Kenseth 32 Greg Biffle 33 Alex Bowman 34 AJ Allmendinger 35 David Gilliland 36 Josh Wise 37 J.J. Yeley 38 Michael Annett 39 Jeb Burton 40 Mike Bliss 41 Brendan Gaughan 42 Matt DiBenedetto 43 Sam Hornish Jr I won't confuse things by posting the whole line-up for today's race, but here's the top five: 1 Joey Logano 2 Ryan Newman 3 Martin Truex Jr 4 Jeff Gordon 5 Jimmie Johnson
  20. flower (I assume Daisy was your word) After my reply, it did occur to me that "mote" is nearly the same as "motte" as in a motte and bailey castle, but Roger would have trouble putting 'gators in a defensive mound! I guess we have more castles over here than you guys. Or even by the Beaudrys .
  21. found The correct spelling is moat - a defensive ditch, usually filled with water, that surrounds a castle.
  22. Of course, Boss only realized he was the boys' probation officer in 'People's Choice' (S02E11), and by the end of the episode the job was taken by Thelma Claire "T.C." Rogers. It was a strange plotline considering that Ms Rogers was never heard of again.
  23. top (sticking with the cartoon theme)
  24. Here's the full result from last week's race at Phoenix for anyone who's interested: 1. Kevin Harvick 2. Jamie McMurray 3. Ryan Newman 4. Kasey Kahne 5. Kurt Busch 6. Brad Keselowski 7. Martin Truex Jr. 8. Joey Logano 9. Jeff Gordon 10. Kyle Larson 11. Jimmie Johnson 12. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 13. Carl Edwards 14. Paul Menard 15. Austin Dillon 16. Matt Kenseth 17. AJ Allmendinger 18.
