There are a few options for the wiki a few of us have discussed, so I thought I'd put them out there so those interested can talk about it and help make the decision. 1. I can install and customize MediaWiki (what Wikipedia runs on). I may be able to put together a single sign on so folks wouldn't need a separate login from their forums login. This would be the most difficult option to put together and I may not be able to get it to look exactly like the rest of the site. 2. I can set up wiki like pages in the forums. Folks would be able to use their forum login, since it would be a part of the forum. I wouldn't have to customize much at all since it would use the same forum templates. This is the easiest option, but the downside is that the wiki would be a part of the forums and not in a separate wiki directory. I can put together some samples. 3. I can install different wiki software like DocuWiki. I'm willing to try others if anyone has suggestions. 4. I can set up another WordPress install with a wiki template/plugins. What do you guys think?

I have a unique challenge for everyone
Meadowmufn replied to Mark B / Scooter Davenport's topic in General Discussion
*poof!* You're a veteran. -
Well, hubby took the outside Christmas lights down yesterday. I was not happy. We still have our artificial Christmas tree up though.
-
That's why we leave them up until February. LOL!
-
True. For the time being, I want to only have veterans editing the wiki and then maybe we can open it up later for newer members.
-
Sure. I have to figure out a few things first like integrating the login with the forum (if possible) and styling it to look like the rest of the site, but once that's done, I'll open it up for folks to play around. I think I already figured out how to restrict editorial permissions using the mediawiki login system so it doesn't get spammed, so that's a good first step. I'll look for some tutorials online to get low tech folks like Rog up to speed. It's really very much like posting to the forum, but there is some unique markup that mediawiki uses you might need to read up on.

I haven't stopped celebrating my birthday yet...

Funny you should mention that... I have tinkered around with MediaWiki (what Wikipedia runs on) on the site and may still have it installed in a directory somewhere. If not, I can always reinstall. If you guys are interested in adding some content to the site and sprucing it up a bit, I'll look into getting a wiki ready and 1) seeing if I can tie it into your current logins or 2) if not, getting some sort of secure login so we can make sure the wiki isn't spammed. Perhaps we should move over all the content about the episodes, trivia, etc, from the WordPress install to the wiki and just keep the blog at the root of the site for updates and current events. Let me know what you guys think.

Glad to hear it, Rog. I had a wonderful Christmas as well. I hope the rest of you did! I have a whole 10 days off. I am so burnt out... I'm going to enjoy every second of it.
-
It's alright to complain, Rog. All the PC stuff kind of took the winds out of our sails, unfairly characterizing the show because of a flag. I hope some day the show will be back on the air, but for now, at least we have the dvds and fond memories.

I'll post on the FB page and see if anyone wants to sign up and liven this place up a little. I've been super busy at work and have been neglecting most of my websites (and I have quite a few). I'm trying to put together a plan to add more content on a regular basis on all my sites. If you guys have ideas, I'm all ears.

Are you still having that problem, Hobie? I'm wondering if that happened while I was doing some maintenance on the server last week.

Darkest/most serious episode?
Meadowmufn replied to justinpcoltrane's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Episodes
I have to mention my favorite episode, Too Many Roscos, for the scene where they find Rosco's car under water. But the rest of the episode, after Woody comes to town, isn't really dark.- 15 replies

Darkest/most serious episode?
Meadowmufn replied to justinpcoltrane's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Episodes
I agree on "Opening Night At The Boar's Nest". I mean, Boss was shot in the chest! Granted, his wallet saved his life, but man... Pretty dark.- 15 replies

I've moved the site to a new server. Please let me know if you run into any issues.
-
I'll look into that. There's probably a way to do a global replace, but I'll have to do some research.
-
I just did an upgrade to the forums. It went so smoothly (right from the control panel) that now I'm really nervous. LOL. Let me know if you guys see any errors, issues, or weirdness.
-
LOL. Not enough challenge for you, Rog?

'Orange Clunker Car' - MPC General Lee Build - FINISHED
Meadowmufn replied to Boss JD Hogg's topic in Hobbies
Very nice. It's coming together well. -
I reduced the number of posts in the Featured Posts to 4. They're displayed by most recently updated. I added a Members list under the Forum menu. There is also now a "Featured Topics" item in the menu bar, which leads to a page that lists all the featured topics.
-
Thanks for the feedback, folks. I'll be making some more changes tonight when I get home from work.
-
Question: Do you guys like the "Featured Posts" on the main forum page or do you think I should create a separate tab in the menu bar for popular posts? The reason I ask is that I don't want to clutter up the main forum page with 10+ featured threads. If I move it to a separate page and reachable via a tab on the menu bar, I can add a lot more featured threads for everybody's various projects. Or, I suppose I could create a menu item just for everyone's projects. Let me know what you guys think!

This topic will include instructions on how to get around in the new forums. A lot of the functionality will remain the same, but there are some changes. Also, for those of you who have been exploring and would like to share what you've found, please chime in. Creating New Topics & Content There's a menu at the top right of the forum that says "+ Create". From there, you can select "Topic". Select the forum you want to put your topic in. A window will open up with an editor. Type in your message, add any files (with the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files" or "Insert other media" options at the bottom of the editor. You can also add other content like a personal status update or upload a gallery image. Replying to Posts At the bottom of every topic, there is a box to reply to a thread. Simply click in the box and an editor will open up. Click "Submit Reply" to post it. To quote, click on the Quote link at the bottom of the post you want to reply to. The quote will show up in the Reply box at the bottom of the page. You can also click the "+" button on multiple posts to multi-quote. View New Posts In the menu bar, hover over "Latest Posts & Activity" and click on "New Posts". There is also an option under "Latest Posts & Activity" called "My Activity Streams". At the bottom of that is a button that says "Create New Stream" where you can configure exactly the type of posts you want to see in that stream. PMs In the upper right of the forum, there is an icon that looks like an envelope. Click on that and you can see a list of your latest PMs (which you can click on to read), a button to compose a new message, or a link (at the bottom) to go to your inbox. PM functionality remains largely the same as before, but if you'd like me to elaborate on it for this guide, please let me know. To be continued...

Where had you planned on posting that? I'll move it.
