Is it me, or did Cletus actually get soaked more often than Enos? I was watching one episode (danged if I can remember which one!) and he ended up in the pond 4 times. I think the Sheriff's department getting soaked was one of the greatest running gags I've seen in TV. It never mattered how many times a patrol car goes into the pond, I always get a chuckle out of it! LS3

I’m not sure the link below will work (as usual I can’t get photos to post on this site...no matter what I do they’re always “too big” ), but have been watching Murder, She Wrote for a few weeks now...and discovered Rick Hurst (Cletus) in a Season 5 episode “Something Borrowed, Someone Blue” (1989). I’ll be honest and say this was a rather silly & ridiculous episode, and Rick just added to it...as he was just as goofy in this as he was in “Dukes”. He was the cop supposedly investigating the murder (with Jessica Fletcher doing most of the investigating)...but he was basically Cletus in a shirt & tie, lol! I’m currently going through the 70s sci-fi action series The Six Million Dollar Man, starring Lee Majors (The Bionic Woman will follow), and an episode I watched earlier this evening guest starred a young Rick Hurst (going by Richard Hurst at the time)! The episode was a season 2 episode called “The Midas Touch” from fall of 1974. Hurst played a somewhat goofy (imagine that ) bad guy named Conners. Here’s a pic from the episode:

Another fun, action-filled show I grew up with was CHiPs (1977-1983)! I just watched a Season 3 episode, “Death Watch”, from October of 1979. Part of the plot was the late actor Christopher Stone playing this disgruntled, angry movie stuntman driver purposely causing wrecks on the California freeways for insurance money (Stone’s real-life wife, actress Dee Wallace, who many remember as the mom in the movie E.T., also had a guest-spot). However, the goofy movie director that Stone’s character was the stunt driver for, was none other than Rick Hurst...aka Cletus Hogg! Has Hurst ever played a serious role?

when i went to georgia to vist the sites that the duke of hazzard was filmed at we stopped at Cooters place in gatlinburg TN and RICK HURST was there signing autographs. It was amazing he's such a nice guy and he's really funny [ATTACH]257[ATTACH] Rick Hurst (Cletus) pretending to arrest me

Rick appeared in the double-length season 6 opener of MASH (Fade Out, Fade In) in 1977. He played a character called Capt. Schaeffer who told Klinger (Jamie Farr) that he was a lawyer, and could help him get the Section 8 (discharge from the United States military for reason of being mentally unfit for service) he so wanted. I won't spoil the plot by posting the outcome:). He is also credited on IMDb as appearing in season 7, but this hour long show (Our Finest Hour) was mainly made up of clips from previous shows, and hence he did not receive a screen credit for this one. I met Rick Hurst at Cooter's Place during my vacation this week. He was really nice, and we took pictures. The really cool thing was that it wasn't like meeting an actor, it was like really meeting Cletus. We had an awesome time!

I didn't really remember this until recently, probably after watching Rick play Cletus in the Dukes, but he did a role similar to Cletus' in another of my favorite shows, 'Starman' during the mid 80's. He played a policeman in a small town and was very similar to Cletus except in this he had a girlfriend who was a waitress at one of the local diners. The character's name was Charlie Ewing, and he was sort of treated as the local joke by the guys in town. The sad thing, when I look back on the 'Starman' role and his role with Cletus, there is an element of type casting going on.
