  1. This is getting ridiculous, Skipper. Not content with starting your own thread so that you can keep posting inaccurate quotes on HNet which you've been asked many times to restrict to Facebook, you're now putting them in other threads. Here's what was actually said: Boss: "Of all the cotton-picking, corn-shucking, pig-slopping..." Rosco: "Bad news?" Boss: "No, it was a singing candygram. Of course, it was bad news, you dodo!"
  2. Yes, but we didn't get to visit them. There's the ruins of a Norman castle which I've read dates from 1170. It's on a private estate and I don't think it's publicly accessible. It's quite close to the river. The other is more recent with a build date of 1895, although it incorporates elements going back to medieval times. It's on a private island, but has been a hotel since the 1980s and is attached to a neighboring golf course.
  3. Today I got to go on a river cruise with a group that I'm part of. It was nearly two hours each way with a stop-over for a hotel meal in the middle. We were hoping for a brighter day, but a bit of mist and rain on the outward journey didn't dampen our spirits, and the return trip was dry with much better visibility.

To end the speculation, Red Bull have announced that Sergio Perez will continue driving for them in the second half of the season. They will also be retaining Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda at second team RB.
  17. Skipper, you're meant to be keeping all the incorrect quotes on Facebook! You managed a couple that were nearly there, so I let them go, but in the one above you completely missed out Bo's line about breaking probation and added in extra words that weren't spoken. Stop posting quotes here if they're not right. You've now been asked nicely and then told by myself and several other members. Here's what was actually said: Bo: "Marijuana? Sure got ourselves in a heap of trouble this time, cousin." Luke: "You got that right. Boss is gonna throw the book at us. Not to mention the federal government." Bo: "When we break our probation, we sure do a bang-up job of it, don't we?" Luke: "We ought to be out of prison about time to collect social security." Bo: "That ain't funny, Luke. We gotta get ourselves out of this." Luke: "Yeah, well while we're figuring out how, you just keep hauling... till we find a safe place to stash this stuff." Bo: "10-4."

I was out yesterday, so I only got home to see the end of the Belgian Grand Prix highlights. If I'd watched it live, I'd have missed the cruel twist at the end, but more of that later. Charles Leclerc retained first place off the line, but Lewis Hamilton got past Sergio Perez for second, and took the lead on lap 3. The order was shuffled a bit through the first pit stops with McLaren, Mercedes and Red Bull all looking fairly evenly matched, and Ferrari not far behind. George Russell then made the brave decision to go with a one-stop strategy when most teams were doing a two-stopper. It looked to have paid off when he had a good lead after the second round of pit stops. Lewis managed to catch him with three laps to go, but couldn't pass. At the finish it was George, Lewis and McLaren's Oscar Piastri all separated by just over a second. Unfortunately for George, sometime after the race, his car was found to be 1.5kg (3.3lb) under weight, and he was disqualified. This is extremely rare in modern F1, but probably down to simple human error somewhere down the line. That promoted Lewis to first (his 105th career victory), with Oscar second and Charles in third. Max Verstappen recovered from his grid penalty to take fourth, and Lando Norris finished fifth after losing places at the start. You can see the highlights here (minus the after-race disqualification). It's four weeks until the next race (the Dutch Grand Prix) as F1 takes its annual summer break. There's speculation about whether Sergio Perez will still be driving for Red Bull after the break. He's had a pretty bad run of form after extending his contract earlier this year. Yesterday he started second and finished seventh, while team mate Max Verstappen started 11th and finished fourth. Sergio just isn't providing the support or points that Red Bull are looking for. News just out tonight: Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, who's leaving at the end of the year to make way for Lewis Hamilton, is joining Williams for 2025. Read more here.
  19. We had a rare sunny day coinciding with a weekend yesterday, so I took a trip to the beach with some friends. I even seem to have learned how to apply enough sunscreen not to come home burnt! On our travels we went through a place called Ballygarrett (Baile Ghearóid in Irish, meaning 'town of Garrett').

Seeing as NASCAR likes dry tracks, I thought y'all might like to see a wet qualifying session in F1 (squeezed into 7 minutes). It's not unusual to get bad weather at the Belgian Grand Prix, but it's meant to be fine for tomorrow's race. Despite the rain, there wasn't a single spin or crash during qualifying, and only a few slides. You can watch here. Spoiler alert: Max Verstappen was easily quickest, and took pole position, but he'll start from 11th after a 10-place grid penalty for exceeding his engine allowance. That promotes Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to a surprise pole position with Max's team mate Sergio Perez having a better session to start in second. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Lando Norris (McLaren) start third and fourth.
  21. Yes, that was another similar Jeep. You can also see dark brown Jeep Wagoneers in 'Witness for the Persecution' and 'And in This Corner, Luke Duke'. In the latter, you actually get to see the Wagoneer badge close-up when Luke is being kidnapped, which is unusual product placement for the show. From season 3, the end credits included "Some vehicles supplied by AMC". They owned Jeep at the time, so the Wagoneers were probably just supplied to promote the model. I've spotted a few differences: there were at least three different wheel designs, there are two different shapes for the wood trim on the sides, and at least one of them had a chrome bull guard, so I'm now doubting that it was the same vehicle. It's just strange that they were always the same color when they were driven by different characters, so there was no need for continuity.
  22. Cooter was driving a Jeep Wagoneer, almost certainly the same one used by CJ Holmes in 'The Runaway'. Jeep didn't start producing the Wrangler until 1986. It replaced the CJ series like the ones driven by Daisy.
