  1. Mufn, I can't promise you a personal visit from Cale Yarborough to cheer you up before your operation, but here's the signed picture that the Dukes originally asked for .
  2. If they were as inebriated as Hobie, anything's possible .
  3. Speaking personally, Facebook could close down tomorrow and I probably wouldn't even notice, but it does sound like they treated John pretty badly. Maybe they could just ring him up and ask him to scream "Yee-Haw" to verify his identity .
  4. I think it's more likely that the storyline was conceived to make viewers think that it might be the end of the line for the Dukes living in Hazzard, but the intention was always to get them back in the farm. Can you imagine the reaction from fans if the series had ended with Boss owning the Duke Farm and Hazzard being strip-mined? The idea of pseudo series-ending episode was pulled off very well in the Red Dwarf season 5 finale 'Back to Reality'. I watched it when it first aired, and was convinced it was going to be the last ever episode until a couple of minutes from the end.
  5. Getting Sorrell to play his own father would have been fun, and would probably have made more sense. The idea led me to try and remember other cases where actors played relatives. Obviously there's the Back to the Future movies where several actors play their own relatives. It's similar to the concept behind a Dukes episode we haven't mentioned yet: 'Go West, Young Dukes'. All the inhabitants of Sleepy City bore an uncanny resemblance to their modern-day counterparts. It also got me thinking about 'M*A*S*H'. In one episode (I forget which), Radar (played by Gary Burghoff) gets sent a home movie which features Gary Burghoff playing Radar's mother. Just to mix things up, Robert Alda (aka. C.J. Holmes from 'The Runaway') appears alongside his real-life son, Alan Alda, yet their characters are not related. Alan's half-brother Anthony also appears as an unrelated character. I guess that opens up another can of worms if we include real relatives appearing in shows. 'One Armed Bandits' featured Ernie Lively and his stepson Jason. I won't count Jimmie Best's wife Dorothy appearing in 'The Rustlers' as they weren't married at the time. Were there any other real-life relatives in Dukes? I think it can be easy to forget what it was like watching TV in the early '80s, especially for those members who weren't born! Most people didn't even have VCRs, let alone DVD boxsets, Dukes TV marathons and the internet. You got to see the show once when it first aired and then maybe sometime later as a re-run. Plenty of TV shows got away with recycling storylines because they were a year or two apart. I'm now older, and have seen every episode of Dukes several times, so the repetition does stand out sometimes, but I don't remember noticing it so much when I first saw them.
  6. 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Duke' is the third episode of season 7.
  7. The two-parters are: Season 3 - 'Carnival of Thrills' Season 4 - '10 Million Dollar Sheriff' Season 6 - 'Undercover Dukes'
  8. Just FYI, in Ireland, March 17th is known as St. Patrick's Day or Paddy's Day. I've been here over 10 years now and I've never heard it called St. Patty's Day. Also, I've never seen green beer, although McDonald's do a green Shamrock shake. The traditional food is (boiled) bacon and cabbage - maybe you can enjoy some of that.
  9. A couple of Murray Walker videos: Murray interviews Nigel Mansell about the bump on his head, and pokes him right on it! I think this one is from Jeremy Clarkson's chat show. Murray commentates on snooker. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRbuXfsI_fU I really miss Murray's F1 commentary. I can't believe he's 90 now!
  10. It was 2010. Bruno Senna took his place for the 2012 season. Manhole cover behind Barrichello Monaco shunt The picture quality of this video isn't great, but it's a lot shorter than the others I found.
  11. Here's the teaser that Sky Sports are using for this season:
  12. Act I keep hearing it on a commercial for electronic cigarettes, but never knew who it was by.

  14. With 'The A-Team', George Peppard had to play some kind of alter ego nearly every week as Hannibal disguised himself to meet prospective clients. Having said that, this was normally a brief scene near the start of an episode, so the extra make-up was probably a one-off each time.
  15. I hope the surgery goes smoothly and that you get well soon. We'll take it in turns to keep the place clean while you're gone .
  16. I'll kick off with 'Baa, Baa White Sheep' where Sorrell also plays Boss' honest twin brother, Abraham Lincoln Hogg. I'm not going to try and convince anyone that the idea of one actor playing twins with opposite personalities is original, but it was fun. Sorrell was a very talented character actor who loved playing Boss, but I'm sure he also enjoyed the chance to flip the characteristics. I thought it made a good one-off episode, with plenty of comedy/farcical moments, but I'm also glad they didn't over-stretch the idea by bringing Abraham Lincoln Hogg back for a second visit. Just to prove that Dukes wasn't the only '80s show to do this, David Hasselhoff also played Garthe Knight in 'Knight Rider'.
  17. Thanks for the race review, Garrett. I only got to see some of the race, and the live leaderboard wasn't working today, but I didn't feel I missed much. The lap-by-lap guide says that he had brake issues at lap 194 and headed for the garage at lap 198, but then came back on track at lap 225. I was hoping for a better result after qualifying. He was hanging in the teens for a while, but went a lap down and almost immediately got caught entering the pits too fast, so that was that. When your driver goes a couple of laps down and doesn't look like they'll ever get back on the lead lap, the last thing you want is a couple of hundred extra laps! It's crashes that we need more of this season. At least there's only seven days left until the proper motorsport of 2014 gets started next week in Australia .

After I posted the video above which was filmed in Los Angeles, I discovered that people around the world had made their own versions. To do my bit for Fáilte Ireland, here's the one from Dublin. As you'll see, leprechauns are real - they're just a bit bigger than you imagined . Happy (Dublin Is Also Happy) - Pharrell Williams
  19. Walk Like an Egyptian - The Bangles
  20. The head and wrist bands are a dead giveaway that this is an '80s video. It also features some funny moments from various American ball sports. Walk of Life - Dire Straits
  21. Well you did make a post yesterday saying that you wouldn't be posting the line-up last night or today, so since I watched some of the qualifying, I thought I might as well post it myself. You had me worried there, until I realized that British Summer Time doesn't start for another three weeks. Until then, you'll have to make do with the American version .
  22. I have to agree with you guys, it wasn't the best picture to use .
  23. I thought the same thing when I dug out my DVDs to get screengrabs for the Coy and Vance's car thread earlier today. Maybe they think people will pick up the box, see Coy and Vance on the cover, and put it back on the shelf!
  24. Well, I got to see a bit of the new qualifying format today. It would've been better if the "live" TV coverage had been live, because the leaderboard on the NASCAR site was way ahead and kinda spoiled the surprise. I think the new format beats them all going out one at a time, but I'm sure it needs some tweaking. For one thing, there seems to be a lot of concern about the drivers slowing down on the apron. They use a similar qualifying system in Formula 1 (with much longer tracks), and you sometimes get half a dozen changes to pole position in the final 30 seconds. I can't see that happening in NASCAR unless they make a few changes. For the record, most of the comments I saw on the NASCAR site had negative views on the new format. I'm more hopeful that Ricky Stenhouse will get a good result this week. He starts sixth, and was also sixth in the second qualifying session. Joey Logano reversed last week's top two starting positions by swapping places with his team mate Brad Keselowski. Logano was also fastest in the second qualifying session. Here's how they all line up: 1 Joey Logano 2 Brad Keselowski 3 Clint Bowyer 4 Austin Dillon 5 Jimmie Johnson 6 Ricky Stenhouse Jr 7 Jamie McMurray 8 Aric Almirola 9 Brian Vickers 10 Ryan Newman 11 Carl Edwards 12 Martin Truex Jr 13 Kasey Kahne 14 Dale Earnhardt Jr 15 Jeff Gordon 16 Kevin Harvick 17 Kyle Larson 18 AJ Allmendinger 19 Jeff Burton 20 Kyle Busch 21 Paul Menard 22 Danica Patrick 23 Kurt Busch 24 Tony Stewart 25 Greg Biffle 26 David Ragan 27 Denny Hamlin 28 Cole Whitt 29 Matt Kenseth 30 Casey Mears 31 Josh Wise 32 Parker Kligerman 33 David Gilliland 34 Trevor Bayne 35 Michael McDowell 36 Alex Bowman 37 Justin Allgaier 38 Michael Annett 39 Ryan Truex 40 Reed Sorenson 41 Timmy Hill 42 Travis Kvapil 43 Marcos Ambrose Blake Koch, Landon Cassill, J.J. Yeley, Dave Blaney and Joe Nemechek failed to qualify. The KOBALT 400 from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is on this Sunday at 3:00 PM ET live on Fox.
