  1. All good points Hoss. Sometimes political correctness mixing with biology can be confusing. I suppose we should get back on the subject of the NASCAR thread. It is the big day after all. My apologies for getting off subject.
  2. I predict that 20 years from now there will be no more cheerleaders in sporting events here in the US either. I realize cheerleaders and grid girls have different jobs but this is a trend. It will likely filter into movies as well. NPR reported that there are no sexy girls in the movie "Black Panther" because it sends the wrong message about girls. This first started in the 1960s. I remember when young women were discouraged from wearing mini skirts because that distracted from their intelligence. Mini skirts then faded away. I'm not sure if it was because they were no longer politically correct or if it was simply because all fashion trends fade away.
  3. I understand why you feel that way and I respect that but I just think it puts the boy in a lose-lose situation. If he beats the girl in a wrestling match he gets teased by his teammates and if he loses he gets teased even worse. If the boy has a father like mine who taught him to not hurt girls how can he be expected to put his heart into it when he has to get physical with them? That also puts him in a lose-lose situation. Society is setting a double standard. With all the latest social movements encouraging men to treat women with more respect we are also teaching our boys that it is fine to tackle them, crush them, pin them and dominate over them in an athletic event while adults cheer. These mixed signals are confusing to young men. It was so simple in my day....respect girls and don't hurt them.
  4. Chase Elliott all the way! He's a real redneck and his dad was mentioned on the Dukes once. That's plenty enough to make me a fan.
  5. I wouldn't care either way. What I don't like to see is girls playing football or wrestling boys in high school. When someone says I'm wrong for feeling that way I always say this...."My father taught me that boys should never hit girls. Are you saying my dad was an idiot for teaching me that?"
  6. Wherever it goes it's gonna git there fast. This is Hazzard County after all.
  7. I miss the 1980's when every decent sized town had at least one person driving around in a General Lee.
  8. You sure got that right. This place wouldn't be the same without MM............that's because it wouldn't exist.
  9. "several" can mean many things from 3 to 20 but I always think of the number seven since it's so close to the word several. Using a little math (10+70) that adds up to a MM that is 80 years old. LOL It's been awhile since anybody's been thrown in the pokey by the Supreme Superior Commander so I'm just trying to get things stirred up....besides I'm way older than MM.
  10. Hobie Harkins has the cure for that.
  11. Good to hear from you MM. I watched men's and women's snowboarding but that's it. Too much else going on between basketball and grandchildren. I'm in the middle of my second bout of a cold but haven't got the flu. I had two colds last season too. I guess that's the new normal when you get older. I only used to get one. Sorry to hear about your autoimmune problems. That's been a problem for awhile hasn't it?
  12. And we're glad to have you big time! Do you have any favorite characters or episodes?
  13. I see that YAHOO hasn't yet opened up for baseball. Please don't worry about me not being able to draft. I know you have a lot of friends in it and I don't want to disrupt your plans. Before I join let me know what time you selected and if I can make it I will join. I've been in leagues before where the computer picked my players and I hated it. I do want to join the NASCAR league though.
  14. King of the Road was a huge hit when I was young. Big Boss Man was an Elvis song.
  15. I understand why you are getting excited about NASCAR but don't understand why you are getting excited about baseball since the Pirates are going to crush the Cubs every time they play. I want to join both leagues but will only join baseball if you can make the draft 4:00 Eastern Standard Time (5:00 at the latest) on a weekday since I have limited access to a computer and I can't count on this tablet to be reliable. I will send you a PM.

  17. Another 1000 point drop in the Dow Jones. That means another 4 trillion dollars just vanished into thin air. Despite that, it doesn't seem like folks are panicking as much as you would expect. How about across the pond? Folks getting scared?
  18. Just got back from a high school basketball game. The regular season is winding down and the playoffs are approaching in a couple weeks.
  19. Did they make a Dukes of Hazzardshire?
  20. Jeep
  21. I was talking to a guy from Tasmania today about his home. I knew it was SE of Australia but didn't know it was part of Australia. The analogy he used was Hawaii is part of the US even though it's an island. Of course Tasmania is closer to the homeland than Hawaii. It's a pretty fascinating place with an interesting history.
  22. onion (Ramps are called leeks around here. For you folks across the pond they're like a wild onion with a touch of garlic flavor to them...depending on if you dig them late or early in leek season)
  23. messy
  24. If I ever moved to the southern US I would pick up an accent in days. Charlie Daniels is my favorite male singer and Loretta Lynn is my favorite female. This makes me wonder if some southerners weren't happy when Dukes came out since the accents weren't that strong on the show. Some characters had them but overall I don't think they were very strong.
  25. She didn't marry you for your gold. She married you for your shine!
