I didn't think I'd be up in time to watch the Japanese Grand Prix this morning, but the race was red flagged due to rain after a couple of laps. There was then a long delay before they restarted and raced for about 40 minutes, which took them up to the end of the time limit window. The race was won from pole by Max Verstappen, who drove a great race and pulled out a nearly 30-second lead in the limited running and terrible weather conditions. Max's team mate, Sergio Perez, made it a team 1-2 after second placed driver and title contender Charles Leclerc was given a 5-second penalty for gaining an advantage by leaving the track on the last bend. Behind them, Lewis Hamilton had a great battle with Esteban Ocon, but couldn't get past, and Ocon's team mate, Fernando Alonso, couldn't get past Sebastian Vettel even with fresher tires. Finishing in ninth, Williams driver Nicholas Latifi picked up his first points of the year - the last full-time driver to do so. After the race there was some confusion over the points due to rules concerning races that don't go full distance. Apparently it makes a difference whether the race finishes on the track or under a red flag, so it wasn't until the top three drivers were in the cool-down room before the trophy presentations that they were able to announce that Max Verstappen had won his second World Championship with four races still to go. He's dominated this season by winning 12 of the 18 races so far. There was some controversy just before the initial red flag because a recovery vehicle was on the track as at least one car passed it at speed. Eight years ago, French driver Jules Bianchi died after hitting a recovery vehicle at the same event in similar conditions. If you've never seen F1 cars race in the rain, you can check out the highlights here. The next race is the US Grand Prix from Austin in two weeks' time. A bit of driver news: Pierre Gasly is moving to Alpine next year to make an all-French line-up alongside Esteban Ocon. Former Formula 2 champion Nyck de Vries takes his place at Alpha Tauri after impressing while standing in for Alex Albon last month.
  2. The place where I live had a local celebration day today. There were apparently various family fun events, and some of the local tourist attractions had free entry. Unfortunately, we had terrible weather and it hardly stopped raining all day. I inquired about doing the brewery tour, which I've never done before, but that was limited to three tours before I got there mid-afternoon, so that's something for another day. In the end, a friend and I looked around the medieval merchant's house and garden. The buildings are around 400 years old and have been fully restored, but the garden was only reconstructed about 14 years ago - pictures there show it was used as a parking lot up until then!
  3. AX catching (From the 'Hazzard in Hollywood' TV movie)

  5. From Gy Waldron in 'The Dukes Of Hazzard - Building the Legend' DVD extra: When Loretta Lynn came in she had a terrible sore throat. It was the kind of sore throat that if an actor had had it, you wouldn't see him for two days. And...But she's in town, she's going to do a concert with this sore throat, and she's going to be on 'Dukes of Hazzard'. And so she comes in and she sings. And, I just remember thinking that this...That's a typical coal miner's daughter. "I've come to work, and if I drop in my tracks, that's what I'm here to do."
  6. STUMP Roundtree (Seeing as Skipper just mentioned him in another thread)
  7. To keep from going to jail, I could be QUINTUPLETS at the same time. (When Rosco asks how Boss can be himself and his twin in 'Baa, Baa White Sheep')
  8. Forever
  9. I just heard this sad news on the radio before I left work. They have a spot each week where they talk to a pair of American correspondents with differing political views, but both were united in their tributes to Loretta Lynn. RIP to the Coal Miner's Daughter.
  10. Cindy MAE MOFFAT, man's best friend (Answer to question, "What needs a lot of loving, but gives nothing but pure pleasure in return?")
  11. Given that the premise of this thread was about playing Daisy in the 2005 movie, I'd have to say no as Kate was 13 years old when the movie came out. No one could ever replace Cathy. She managed to play Daisy as sexy, demure and smart - a tough act to pull off. Anyone else playing Daisy would need all of these qualities. I also think that the part should have gone to a relatively unknown actor, but the studio would never have gone for that in a blockbuster movie.

  13. Wikipedia gives a range of 255 to 325, the higher figure being attributed to Ben Jones. At the end of the day, no one knows. It's probably safe to say that the total number is around 300, or roughly two cars per episode.
  14. 'The Andy Griffith Show' ran for 249 episodes/8 seasons from 1960 to 1968. From what I've read, Andy decided to leave the show to pursue a movie career and other projects. 'Mayberry R.F.D.' was a spin-off/continuation of 'The Andy Griffith Show' that still had many of the same characters. It ran for 78 episodes/3 seasons from 1968 to 1971 - Andy Griffith appeared in 6 episodes. 'Mayberry R.F.D.' was cancelled as part of CBS' "rural purge" where they wanted to make more politically correct shows targeted at a younger, more urban audience. Other victims of the purge were 'The Beverly Hillbillies', 'Petticoat Junction' and 'Green Acres'. A network cancelling a popular rural-based TV show, now that sounds familiar...

  16. "AlakaZam, alakaZoo, alakaZeer..." (Rosco tries to make Boss reappear in 'Opening Night at the Boar's Nest')
  17. Lois Hamilton had degrees in Psychology and Fine Arts from the US and Italy. She was a talented sculptor, and was also an accomplished aerobatic pilot flying her 1936 German biplane. Sadly, it looks like things got too much for Lois. In May 1999 she was injured in a head-on car collision while under the influence of cocaine and diet pills, and in December 1999 she committed suicide in a Brazilian hotel. She was 56.

  19. The car, complete with 3D printed pieces, looks really good. For some reason the sound was about six seconds out of sync when I watched it, but it seems OK now that I've refreshed the page, so it was probably an issue at my end. Just one little criticism - the side markers on the front fenders are further forward and higher on a '69 Charger. BTW. I used to work in the sign industry many years ago, before the modern re-positionable vinyls were available. We used to make our own application spray with a dilution of a detergent called Brij. I don't know how easy it is to get hold of.
  20. 28.44kb is a very small file size for an image. The image would either be small in size, low in quality or both. This limit must've been set by MeadowMufn. If the images are uploaded directly to HNet, then HNet hosts the images and will have to pay the additional overheads (increased bandwidth) every time those images are viewed. I'm guessing that that's the reason why the image size is so low. If you use a site like Flickr, they host your images, i.e. they provide an online storage location for them and the overheads are carried by that site (at no cost to you or HNet). All you have to do is insert a link into your post on HNet that references your image.
  21. The car strippers were (L-R) Daina House, Kellee Patterson, Lois Hamilton and Kathrine Baumann. They played Lil, Jane, Carla and Sally.
  22. The square in Covington also appeared in 'The Cannonball Run' - Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise land their plane there to buy more beer near the start of the movie.
  23. I don't know what format/size the forum is expecting - you'll have to ask MeadowMufn on that one. As I've suggested before, you should look into using an image hosting site. Many offer free hosting for a limited number of images, e.g. Flickr will host up to 1,000 images for free. There are also plenty of free image editing apps - I found a recent list here. I don't know what platform you're using, but I've used Paint.NET for Windows and found it easy to use.
  24. They are using the Next Gen cars now. Here's an article listing the differences between last season's cars and the Next Gen cars: https://www.cbssports.com/nascar/news/nascar-next-gen-car-explaining-the-ins-and-outs-of-the-nascar-cup-series-new-racecar-for-2022/ Some of the changes are a shorter greenhouse, shortened deck lid, and widened track width, as well as 18" forged aluminum wheels and wider tires. The wheels will feature a single lug-nut design, as opposed to the traditional five lug-nut design of previous generations. Interestingly, the Next Gen cars "feature upgraded specs to match modern passenger vehicle technology, including an independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, and larger brakes." Does this mean that they are becoming more like "stock" cars?

Here you go, Roger. It was Kenan Sofuoglu on a Kawasaki Ninja H2R at the Osman Gazi Bridge in Turkey back in 2016. 400km/h is just shy of 250mph. BTW. The original video I posted is long, but it'll whiz by (no pun intended).
