  1. Tears dripped down the eldest Duke's face, not at all like having to be taken care of. He felt useless in every sense of the word.
  2. "How?! How you gonna run...the farm...an' work...an pay a mortgage....an...an ..." he started to tremble the worry of all those things plaguing him.
  3. "Can't afford all this...can't..." he said shaking his head.
  4. Luke didn't notice he had left them. He didn't think about it. In fact, nowadays Luke would be the first person to tell you that his mind was elsewhere 99% of the time. And usually it was on the little girl asleep next to him.
  5. Luke shook his head tears escaping his eyes despite his efforts to hide them. "I'm just addin'...t' the trouble," he said miserably seemingly reading Bo's thoughts.
  6. Quietly, Luke headed back to the truck he had driven in, strapping Abi in before getting in himself and heading to the farm. It had been quite a day for both of them.
  7. Luke nodded a little staring down at his hands, blinking so his tears wouldn't fall.
  8. His breathing calmed a bit as he did. "Is Daisy...here?"
  9. Luke noticed too,but only held Abi a bit closer and nodded. "I think I better get her home. She did have a busy day."
  10. Luke clenched his hands together swallowing hard, as if he were trying to keep control over the part of him that felt like it was falling apart.
  11. Luke looked softly at him. "I...I'm scared," he mumbled.
  12. Luke shrugged his free shoulder. "Said she might. I know she will if she can make it work...she misses everybody."
  13. Luke didn't notice her whisper. He was too absorbed stroking his daughters hair, hugging her close to his chest.
  14. Luke sniffed. "You said I wouldn't be...a...alone.."
  15. Luke didn't say anything. He wasn't sure of anything anymore... or anyone.
  16. Luke nodded a little, though his insides were quaking at the thought of spending two hours with Cassie at the farm made his stomach churn. He could feel her eyes on him, even though he was doing everything in his power not to look at her in return. Glancing at Bo he could sense a slight bit of indignation in his voice, not detectable by anyone else. He wasn't sure what to make of it but he knew one thing...if Cassie was coming out to the farm, he was sticking close to Abi tonight.
  17. Luke soon reached the, Abi in his arms. hearing Enos's question, he replied, "Well I dont know bout y'all, but Abi's pretty tuckered out already."
  18. Eventually Luke pulled away, his hands clenched in front of him not saying a word, though speaking volumes to himself.
  19. Luke just rested his weary head against Bo's shoulder. He was still upset that Bo had forgotten him, but he was so glad he was there at all he quickly dismissed it as him having no right to be upset. He swallowed hard, rubbing his hands nervously.
  20. Luke hiccuped a sob. It wasn't a matter of what Bo did. In his mind, it was what Luke did, and he felt Bo deserved a much better role model than him.

  24. Wow... I would have liked to talk to her. History like that interests me a great deal.
