RIP Rick Hurst
Justin and 4 others reacted to Meadowmufn for a topic
When I first met Rick, it was in the 90's, so the WWW was in its infancy. When I told him about HazzardNet's predecessor (the Hazzard County Sheriff's Department on Prodigy), he was excited there was a community of fans online still discussing and enjoying the show. He told me he'd be right back and when he returned, he handed me an enormous folder of 8x10s, several of them signed. That was very generous of him. I still have them packed away from the move, but when I find them (someday), I will scan them in and put them on the site. When I mentioned where I worked at the time, we had a connection there and he told me some amazing stories. We just had an awesome conversation. He was very personable and gracious. At the Dukesfest in '01, I got to do an impromptu square dance with him and Jimmie. Good times. I would've liked to have gotten to know him better, but my health and work situations over the years didn't permit me to get to events as much as I'd have liked.5 points -

I forgot to mention 'On the Rocks'. Rick played one of the inmates in this prison-set sitcom in the mid-70s. It was based on the British sitcom 'Porridge', which coincidentally I'm watching right now. I've only ever seen a couple of clips of 'On the Rocks' - maybe it'll make it online one day. Here's the intro:3 points -
I can’t believe it in a sense, but there it is. Rick Hurst has crossed the creek on that rainbow bridge, now not only reunited with his kinfolk, but also a lot of the Dukes family who’ve gone on before him. I’m saddened I never got to meet him, I think it would have been fun to know him. God bless y’all. Tom Duke3 points

Skipper Duke and 2 others reacted to HossC for a topic
Welcome to HNet, joshkeith. The ages of the characters are never revealed (except for Abraham Lincoln Hogg by his driver's licence, and therefore his twin brother, Boss), but the subject has been discussed a few times before. Here are three threads to get you started: Ages of dukes I have a question??? What were the real ages of cast? Anyone know? Aside from the flashback episodes ('Go West, Young Dukes' and 'Happy Birthday, General Lee'), and the shown-out-of-order season 2 episodes, I think Dukes ran chronologically, although not many storylines crossed episodes or seasons. An example of this is T.C. Rogers becoming Supervisory Administrator of Hazzard County in 'People's Choice' (S2E11), but then she was never mentioned again. Of course, the 2005/2007 movies completely ignored the canon of the TV series, but that's another story!3 points -

In the Austrian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz Jnr's Williams broke down on the grid, so only 19 cars started the race. Oscar Piastri started third, but got ahead of Charles Leclerc at the first bend and spent most of the first stint right on Lando Norris' rear wing and even briefly overtook once. Canadian Grand Prix winner George Russell got past Lewis Hamilton at the start, but Hamilton retook the place be the end of the first lap. Max Verstappen was hit by Kimi Antonelli on the first lap, ending both of their races. Max's team mate, Yuki Tsunoda got a 10-second penalty later in the race for causing a collision and was the last car running at the end, so no points for Red Bull at their home track, the Red Bull Ring. It was also a bad day for Williams as their other car driven by Alex Albon had to retire from a top 10 position after 17 laps. The pit stops gave Lando a bit of breathing space at the front, but there were some good battles behind. After the second pit stops, Oscar was catching Lando, but Lando managed to hang on to the lead through the back markers and took the win for a McLaren 1-2. Oscar's lead in the drivers' championship is now down to 15 points. Ferrari finished third and fourth, and overtook Mercedes in the constructors' championship. Liam Lawson scored his best F1 finish in sixth. Liam had a bad start to the season at Red Bull and got demoted to their junior team RB (Racing Bulls). He now has two more points than Yuki Tsunoda who replaced him! Gabriel Bortoleto also had a great result scoring his first F1 points in eighth in his Sauber. You can see the race highlights here. Next week it's the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. It's the only race of the year that gets shown live here on free-to-air TV, but the weather will determine if I stay in to watch it live.2 points -

This is a 5-year-old video from Ed Bolian's VINwiki YouTube channel. He posts a lot of videos and I don't have time to watch many of them, but I enjoy the ones I do get time to see. This week, the VINwiki channel also posted the latest series of Car Trek. For those of you who haven't seen the previous editions, Car Trek features YouTubers Ed Bolian (VINwiki), Tyler Hoover (Hoovies Garage) and Freddy Hernandez (Tavarish) doing car challenges similar to those seen on Top Gear. To save having to go through MSN, here's the General Lee video:2 points -

While Garrett and Hobie are fighting it out, nobody is even paying attention to Roger in his souped up white F-150. He's been saving up his nitrous oxide for this moment. He flips the toggle switch and his back gets pushed hard into the seat. The same happens to his head. But something goes wrong. It's too much power. The front wheels are lifted off the road. This might not end well for Roger.1 point -
You're half right. Lalo Schifrin composed the theme music for season 1 of Starsky and Hutch. The more familiar 'Gotcha' theme used for season 2 was written by Tom Scott. A reworked version was also used on season 4. The video below is a cool cover by British jazz funk group the James Taylor Quartet. The season 3 theme was written by Mark Snow. All three of these composers also scored several episode, as did Alan Silvestri who wrote a lot of the music for 'CHiPs' (and many movies including 'Back to the Future').1 point

Since Rick and Lalo passed on the same day and you folks liked to talk about it, I didn't want Rick's thread to get overrun, so I'm starting this one. Post your favorite Lalo Schifrin music here. Mission: Impossible theme is probably the most memorable of them all. I have the entire soundtrack from the show.1 point -
I don't know Mannix at all. It looks like it was eventually shown in the UK in 1971, but I don't remember ever seeing it in the TV listings, and it's never had a region 2 DVD release. I mentioned 'Dirty Harry' above, but Lalo Schifrin also composed the score for another Clint Eastwood movie, 'Coogan's Bluff'. Anyone who's seen the movie will remember the club scene with Lalo's great parody of late-60's music - 'The Pigeon Toed Orange Peel'.1 point

I take these things very hard since Dukes have been a big part of my life when they debuted in 1979 and these actors are truly family. I'm grateful for the HazzardNet because you folks can relate to the pain I'm feeling now. My condolences to all of you. There is a happy reunion in Hazzard Heaven today between Boss, Rosco and Cletus. But there are plenty of tears on Earth for those of us who loved Cletus/Rick. I just checked the family section in my notebook and there is not a whole lot of his family mentioned, except Boss of course. He made his first appearance in season 1 where he was called Boss's cousin. Cletus mentioned his Mama in season 2. He is called Boss's third cousin twice removed in season 3. Cletus mentions his Mama again in season 4.1 point

Daisy Dukes Added to Dictionary
Hobie Hartkins reacted to HossC for a topic
"Daisy Dukes" have officially been added to the Oxford English Dictionary, 46 years after we first saw them on screen. They are among over 230 new words/terms that will now appear in the OED. The Irish Sun (national tabloid newspaper) even made it their featured addition in this article. You can see the dictionary entry here. In case you weren't sure about the definition: Daisy Dukes, noun colloquial (originally and chiefly U.S.). Brief, tight-fitting denim shorts, typically made from a pair of cut-off jeans and usually worn by women. Also as a modifier with the first element in singular form, in Daisy Duke shorts.1 point -

All the F1 teams have to let their reserve drivers take part in a certain number of practice sessions each year, and this weekend McLaren will give Irish driver Alex Dunne a go in Lando Norris' car in FP1. Alex, who is currently leading the Formula 2 championship, is the first Irishman to drive in F1 for 22 years.1 point

I'll write my F1 race report later when I have more time, but I just wanted to post a quick congratulations to ex-F1 driver Robert Kubica. He had what Rosco would call "a horrendous crash" at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix (see video below), and nearly died when a barrier penetrated the cabin of his rally car in 2011. Yesterday, he won the Le Mans 24 Hours in a privately entered Ferrari 499P alongside co-drivers Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson. They were just over 14 seconds ahead of the second placed Porsche.1 point -

ages of dukes
Skipper Duke reacted to RogerDuke for a topic
There is no place in the entire series where they revealed how old any of the Dukes were. On "Happy Birthday General Lee" Luke said that they first got the General when Bo was just out of high school and Luke was just out of the Marines. That would imply that Luke is four years older than Bo because 90% of Marines back then only stayed in four years. But that presents a problem because in a different episode Luke's Marine buddy comes to town and it is revealed that Luke was a combat vet in VietNam ( I think that was "The Great Hazzard Hijack). If Bo got out of high school in 1978 (like John Schneider did) Luke would have joined the Marines in 1974 but US Marines weren't in combat situations that late in the war to the best of my knowledge. Swamp Molly rescued Jesse from the Feds in 1936. Denver Pyle was born in 1920. Boss's brother was born on 4-6-26 according to the episode "Baa Baa White Sheep" Since they're twins that means Boss was born then too. Rosco was 48 in the episode "Mrs Rosco P Coltrane" and was the quarterback for Hazzard High in 1944 in a different episode. Of course how old they were in real life compared to their ficticious ages were two different things. Enos and Daisy were shown to be about the same age but Sonny's waaay older than Catherine.1 point -
