As y'all know, I'm not from the US, but I'm aware that a lot of you are. Since I've been on HNet I've made a conscious effort to try to spell words the American way (when I remember there's a difference) - I just thought it would make things easier. George Bernard Shaw said "England and America are two countries separated by a common language.". We have trousers and pavements, y'all have pants and sidewalks (although trousers are called pants here in Ireland), but sometimes we even spell common words differently. I found the following spelling test on quiz site Sporcle earlier. It gives the US spelling of 44 words and you have to enter the British spelling. It was probabl…

I was planning on going to an American car show today (this one where I sat in a General Lee last year), but various factors conspired against it. Luckily there was another car related event much closer to home: Cannonball Ireland 2011 came to town. Unlike the namesake movies from the '80s, this was not a race, but just a charity fund-raising cruise of some very expensive cars including Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis and Aston Martins amongst others: There were a few American cars there too: They all parked up in the grounds of the castle. There must have been several million dollars' worth of cars on show.

I watched it again, giving it another go, and still, I found it ok, but was quite bored with it.The first time I watched, I was kinda of disgusted about J.R. drinking /driving racing, of course that was before I found out it wasn't really liquor in the whiskey bottle. All and all, the show was ok, I did not mind watching it, but it's not a show I would want to watch again. After the second time I seen it, I had a hard time not to press stop. I was getting right bored and the only reason I watched the whole thing, is to see if they would mention what J.R. stood in J.R.Colier, and I never did find out.At the end of the movie, I did notice in the credits, that John's full nam…

Congratulations to the England women's football (soccer) team, AKA. The Lionesses, who won the Euros final earlier tonight. Victory came in a dramatic penalty shoot-out when the match ended 1-1 after extra time. This means that they retain the title which they first won in 2022. They beat Spain who won the World Cup against them in 2023. Over the past few years, the English team (men's and women's) have adopted Neil Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline' as an unofficial anthem, so I'll post this to celebrate.

Please check out this link and remember Conyers, GA and it's people. This area was in and near Dukes of Hazzard filming locations. We also lost 5 people (4 children) in Kentucky. http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2013/01/09/Four-children-killed-in-Georgia-house-fire/UPI-35241357735228/?spt=hs∨=tn Now, after you give your kids an extra tight hug, please check your batteries in your smoke detector and IF you didn't change them when you set your clock in the fall, change them now. Our local volunteer fire department is lucky not to have many structure fires, but when we get them in Nov, Dec and Jan they are hot ones and the old structures in our county are usually too far gone …

  14. Okay so I wanted to make a forum about this and I am just curious, if anyone reading this was given the opportunity to script an episode of the Dukes of Hazzard for Warner Bros, what would be the plot that they would come up with. I just watched two hours of CMAs Country Music Festival last night and I'm more convinced than ever that country music is dead. There were a few exceptions but basically those two hours were a rock/pop festival. Country and Western was what country used to be called but when the western part faded out, the western name was dropped. Marty Robbins was probably the last western singer. I think country should consider changing its name again since only about 20% of it is really "country" and that number drops every year. Thank goodness there's still a few country singers out there. I did enjoy their performances last night. But it appears their time in the spotlight is lim…

I've been searching for a classic bicycle for a while now,and whilst cycling home last night I saw one in a dumpster. I went up to the house and offered them €5 for it,and went off to take it out and bring it home. Today I got my first proper look at it... All i can say is this beautiful pre 1970's ladies racer had been ruined by presumably a drunk ape with a can of white spraypaint. They didn't bother to tape off any areas, they just sprayed any available spot. My first thoughts were that this was going to be a ghostbike (a bike that's sprayed white and left in a spot where cyclists have been killed, but after a few phone calls it turns out that the organization that org…

Hey y'all I'm watching a show on tv at the moment that's about what's going to happen on December 21st 2012. Some of it is pretty believable but most of it seems dramatized. Personally I don't think the worlds going to end I'm December but I'm just curious to see what you guys think. It's always interesting to see people's opinions on topics like this.
