HazzardNet Announcements

Well, I finally updated the forums to the latest version. The company that makes the software was going to stop supporting it by the end of the year. It looks a lot different, so it will take some getting used to. I will probably be making changes here and there to settings, colors, layout, etc for a bit. If you run into any problems or you have any suggestions, please add them here or PM me. We're dragging HazzardNet kicking and screaming into the future! 🤣 RIP Old HazzardNet. You served us well. We'll miss you!

I just realized that I have 999 posts and decided to mark the milestone with a special 1000th post. Now, I know many of you folks have more posts than me. The ol' Meadowmufn has been pretty busy and hasn't been able to keep up with a lot of you younguns (and a few olduns). LOL. I wanted to use this post to sincerely thank all of HazzardNet's wonderful members that have made this website home and have helped me, Brian, and MaryAnne build HNet into a thriving Dukes of Hazzard community. Folks, we'll be upgrading the forum software within the next week. The forum will look quite a bit different and might take some getting used to, but it can't be helped. Our current software will soon no longer be supported and the new software is supposed to be more secure. We appreciate your patience as we transition to the new forum. I'll post specific dates/times when we're ready for the upgrade.

I'm going to be doing some Spring cleaning around here, so if I break anything, let me know. 😂 Also, if you have suggestions for topics or forums that no longer serve a purpose and should be deleted, post links in comments here. (Or PM me!)

I'm planning on updating the forum software this weekend, April 8th. It might be unavailable for a short while.

Hey y'all, there are some new features with the latest version of the forum software AND there will be even more features coming with version 5. I thought I'd open a topic to highlight some of them. In the very right of the forum menu, you'll see a new link for Clubs. Registered members who are no longer on probation (we moderate a number of posts before you get off probation in order to keep the spamming to a minimum) can create their own clubs and invite members to join. Keep it family friendly, of course. Let me know what you all think of the new feature. As I find out what's in the next upgrade, I'll post more about it here.

As some of you may have noticed, the site was unavailable most of yesterday. There was a major outage in the datacenter for my webhost, affecting thousands of sites. Things have been resolved, but you might experience some residual connectivity problems until things settle.

To comply with FTC regs and such, we've added a Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to the forums. You'll notice when you login, you'll be asked to accept the terms. Sorry for the inconvenience.

We've just upgraded to a new version of the forums and it includes some great new social features. You can check out all the new features in the FAQ, here: http://www.hazzardnet.com/forums/faq.php?faq=vb3_board_faq#faq_vb3_board_usage In addition, to combat spammers, we've set up new user groups. For the first 10 days to 30 days and 5 or more posts, users will have limited permissions. They cannot have an avatar, signature, or PM privileges. However, if you are honestly participating in the forum, please feel free to PM or email us and request that we promote you and give you regular permissions.

Folks, we started having performance issues with the server two days ago. I've had to restart the server multiple times. I've been trying to run down the issue and I think I've narrowed it down to the database. I put in a tech support ticket several hours ago because it's not something I can fix on my end at this point. There may be intermittent down time until the issue gets resolved. I receive emails every time the server goes down, so there's no need to email me if HazzardNet is down. Thanks for your patience.

For workin' triple overtime to restore HazzardNet, after the most horrendous crash we've had in our history. You took the place from smoking ruins, to business as usual , in just about 24 hours, give r' take. You gave up your holiday, along with a good deal of sleep, to do it. Sometimes I forget - or take for granted - the technical side of this place, until somethin' goes wrong. HazzardNet has survived hostile attacks by hackers, it has survived MaryAnne, ( j/k ! ) and it has survived server disruptions and hardware failures. It looks like CMT has pushed the Dukes off the schedule again. I hope it's not permanent, but it seems like every week, I see the Dukes scheduled on the national listings for the following week. Then when that week comes, this listings change again there's that dumbass "singing bee" or something instead. CMT's Dukes Facebook page has not had an update in several weeks. CMT's main website has also played bait-and-switch; I've seen them list the Dukes for earlier this month, and now, amazingly, they're not being aired for another two weeks. As posted by one of our members elsewhere in the forums, and thereby enticing me to post it here, since the last thing I posted was about the Dukes NOT being on the air, so....by the time I say this it's probably gonna change again. Where was I. Oh yeah! The Dukes are supposedly on CMT on Thurs May 17, starting at 4:00 eastern, for a 4-episode, prime-time, mini-marathon! When are the Dukes on CMT next, after that? Don't hold yer breath, but per one of the TV listing websites, it looks like they might also be on May 30th, but as of that date it's back to the 1:00 a.m. time slot. As always I'll do my best to keep ya'll updated!

I updated the main site today and spent some time optimizing so, hopefully, the site loads faster. As I have time, I'll likely be going through and updating, adding, and deleting old stuff. As with the forums, if you run across any issues, please let me know.

I've decided I'd put together an all-purpose suggestion thread here so on the rare occasion that any of us actually do any work around here, we'll have an idea of what you'd like for us to improve. So, what would y'all like to see here at HazzardNet? We do have some guidelines... 1) It has to be feasible both financially and in terms of our collective skills. 2) It has to be something that can be accomplished in a month or two. We have short attention spans. 3) I'm sure there's something else I wanted to put here, but... well, refer to #2 about the attention span. So, ask away!

If any of you are signed up for the newsletter, you've probably got an email a few days ago stating that I'm going to attempt to revive it. Probably on a monthly basis for now, maybe every other month, depending on how I'm doing. That said, if any of you have ideas for the newsletter, feel free to share them here or in PM.
