The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread
HossC replied to Meadowmufn's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Trivia
Of course I can Roger. Mrs. Oxford's boarding house (Enos's residence) also appears as the home of Mr. Winkle in 'The Haunting of J.D. Hogg' (I borrowed the picture from the Hazzard Square thread). Here's Rosco's house from 'Baa, Baa White Sheep'. It's only seen briefly, so this was the best long view I could get. There is a good close-up of the mailbox though. It looks to me as if Rosco's name originally had an 'E' on the end that's been scratched/peeled off. An episode later ('Mrs. Rosco P. Coltrane') they do spell Rosco's name with an 'E' on his office door. I'm not sure how many episodes it's spelt this way, but I know it appears without the 'E' in many others. NB. We see the door from the inside, but I've mirrored the image to make it easier to read. -
I chose the simple black and white version of the video. If only there was a thread for these tricky one word song titles .

Something Better Change - The Stranglers

After seeing Ray Stevens on The Fall Guy earlier I thought I should post one of his songs. Misty - Ray Stevens Ray played country singer Webb Covington whose son was accused of a murder amid a music bootlegging storyline. Most of the action in 'Pirates of Nashville' takes place in and around the Grand Ole Opry and includes cameos by Dottie West and the Charlie Daniel's Band. It also guest starred Miriam Byrd-Nethery who appeared twice in Dukes (Rose Ellen in 'Double Sting' and Holly in 'Southern Comfurts').

This song came out in 1992, but to me sounds like it mixes part of with the backing of . With those ingredients you wan't be surprised that it's a catchy tune.

You'll be pleased to know that all is jolly well over here because that's just how we talk (not) . Family Guy is good at mocking the English as this scene shows (I think the image is mirrored to avoid copyright). My father and I actually waited outside Downing Street to see Jimmy Carter when he came to visit British PM Jim Callaghan - it must have been in the late '70s. Security wasn't as tight then - I bet you wouldn't get anywhere near them now.

I think the picture I used was an original, but there are replicas. There's a site for the surviving Duel truck here. There's also a thread I found by someone who created a great looking model of the Duel truck - it's here. If Rubber Duck's more your thing there's a site dedicated to all things Convoy, including all the main trucks, and especially the surviving Mack - it's here. There's someone in Japan who's recreated a 1:14 scale (I think) model of Rubber Duck's rig - it's complete with radio control and working lights, and the detail's incredible. The text is in Japanese, but the pictures speak for themselves. The site is here. Finally, if you like Smokey and the Bandit models then look no further than here. If you look around the site you'll also find pictures of loads of Trans-Ams and a Snowman rig on the Bandit Run. There's even a picture that looks like Snowman's rig got pulled over by the Hazzard Sheriff's Department .

I'm going country again: I actually knew Elvis Costello's version first, but now I have both .

The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread
HossC replied to Meadowmufn's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Trivia
I checked my notes, and I think it was 'A Baby for the Dukes' that had the horses. I think the answer to the new question is 'Undercover Dukes'. If I remember correctly, the address of the Duke farm varies depending on the episode. It's either Old Mill Road, Mill Road, or Mill Pond Road. I can't remember the address for the Davenport farm right now, but I'll post it if I remember before anyone else posts it. -
As y'all know, I'm not from the US, but I'm aware that a lot of you are. Since I've been on HNet I've made a conscious effort to try to spell words the American way (when I remember there's a difference) - I just thought it would make things easier. George Bernard Shaw said "England and America are two countries separated by a common language.". We have trousers and pavements, y'all have pants and sidewalks (although trousers are called pants here in Ireland), but sometimes we even spell common words differently. I found the following spelling test on quiz site Sporcle earlier. It gives the US spelling of 44 words and you have to enter the British spelling. It was probably easier for me being British, but I got 40/44 before the time ran out. Have a go and post your results: American vs British English Spelling Test If that's too easy for you, try the A-Z of these hard-to-spell words: A-Z Spelling Bee

How do y'all feel about a side poll for your favorite TV/movie big rig?. Here's eight to start the ball rolling, although I could add Waylon Jennings' rig from 'Welcome, Waylon Jennings' to the list. Some of these are replicas - I'm quoting the make/model as they appeared in the show/movie. They are: BJ and the Bear 1978 Kenworth K-100 Aerodyne: BJ McKay's truck. Smokey and the Bandit 1974 Kenworth W-900: Snowman's truck. The Highwayman 1980 Kenworth COE (before modification): The Highwayman's truck. (NB. the truck is not exactly how it appeared in the series as this picture was taken part-way through the owner's conversion of the truck into a mobile home) Duel 1955 Peterbilt 281: David Mann's mysterious nemesis. Convoy 1977 Mack RS-712 LST: Rubber Duck's truck. Knight Rider 1973 Peterbilt 352 Pacemaker: 'Goliath', built by Michael Knight's evin twin-brother Garthe Knight. Transformers Peterbilt 379: Optimus Prime. Cars 1985 Mack Superliner: Lightning McQueen's transport, voiced by John Ratzenberger. Despite some stiff competition, I'm going to give my vote to Rubber Duck's truck from Convoy. While I was searching for the pictures I came across the following picture of an aerodynamic, fuel-efficient concept truck - it wasn't in a show or movie, but it's not a million miles away from The Highwayman truck.

A 'little' something I've been working on
HossC replied to Mark B / Scooter Davenport's topic in Fan Art
Nice job Mark. You've got a lot of detail in there considering the size. I don't think I have enough room to build one to go with my 1:18 collection . -
Here's some more cars to consider, ranging from 1921 to 2054. I started off thinking I'd come up with another 10 (that haven't already been mentioned) - I ended up with 30. They're in no particular order. There's more British cars here (call me biased ) and the first 10 are from British TV shows that may not be familiar to US members, with the exception of FAB1 - they probably aren't well known enough to make the top 100, but I think they deserve a mention. I've included YouTube links where I can find a relevant clip. Inspector Morse 1960 Jaguar Mk II: This long-running British TV detective show sees the Jag driving around Oxford. Life on Mars 1974 Ford Cortina MkIII: In the British (original) version of Life on Mars, Gene Hunt drove this lovely looking Cortina - probably the best shaped Cortina that Ford made. It features in .Ashes to Ashes 1983 Audi Quattro: From the '80s-set follow-up to Life on Mars - when Gene Hunt says , you do it! (Warning: mild bad language in link).Thunderbirds FAB1 Rolls Royce: Owned by Lady Penelope and driven by Parker, this is the original from the '60s TV show. The Professionals 1979 Ford Capri Mk III: Intelligence agents Bodie and Doyle had several fast Fords, but the Capri is the best known - see a selection .Bergerac 1946 Triumph Roadster: Unusual classic owned by the '80s detective Jim Bergerac on the Channel Island of Jersey. It wasn't always without its .Mr. Bean 1977 Mini 1000: The small green car with black hood suited the character perfectly, and could even be driven from a chair on the roof!. Only Fools and Horses Reliant Regal Supervan III: Probably the only 3-wheeler on the list, this tatty van has iconic status in Britain. It even featured in a . The Avengers 1967 Lotus Elan S3: While Steed drove a vintage Bentley, Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) drove this little 2-seater. Return of the Saint Jaguar XJ-S: When this series was revived, the Jaguar replaced the Volvo of the original. The car features heavily in the first three minutes of .For Your Eyes Only 1981 Lotus Esprit Turbo: After the white Esprit blows up at the start of the movie, Q manages to put it back together and spray it bronze for its trip to Cortina. Austin Powers 1961 Jaguar E-Type (XK-E): What could be more British than a Jaguar covered with the Union Jack?. Felicity's Corvette was cool too. Beverly Hillbillies 1921 Oldsmobile Touring: Despite their new-found fortune and fancy house with its own cement pond, the Clampetts kept their original transport. The Equalizer 1984 Jaguar Series 3: I haven't see the show for years, but I still remember Edward Woodward and his black Jag. Nash Bridges 1970 Plymouth Barracuda: Don Johnson wanted a '71 Hemi Cuda convertible, but they're so rare that '70 Barracudas were modified. No real Hemis were used. Knight Rider 2008 Ford Shelby GT 500 KR SVT: OK, so the new show didn't last long, but this is one of the coolest new Mustangs around. Moonlighting 1985 BMW 635 CSi [E24]: Over 25 years on, and I still think this is one of the best looking Beemers. I hated the scene when Bruce Willis deliberately wrecked it. Pink Panther Show car: The real-life car appeared with the cartoon Pink Panther in the and closing credits of each episode..My Name is Earl 1973 Chevy El Camino: A regular feature on the show - it's got the driver's door from a '77, and the transmission from an '87 Camaro. Wayne's World 1977 AMC Pacer: Often referred to as "The Mirth Mobile", it even got stretched in the sequel. Grease 1948 Ford De Luxe: I can't claim that this is my favorite movie, but "Greased Lightning" is a memorable car. The Graduate 1966 Alfa Romeo Spider Deutto: If Mrs. Robinson didn't seduce you, this Italian sports car might!. Thelma and Louise 1966 Ford Thunderbird: What a sad way for the movie to end - the destruction of this '60s classic. xXx 1967 Pontiac GTO: If James Bond was American he'd probably have driven a tricked out muscle car like this. Dazed and Confused 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS 454: I haven't seen the movie for ages, but this beautiful Chevelle, known as "Melba Toast", sticks in my memory. Every Which Way But Loose 1955 Chevy 3100: You've gotta love these '50s pickups. This one even had a camper for the back. Malcolm 1972 Honda Z360 'Zot': If you haven't seen this great Australian film, I'd highly recommend it. I won't spoil it by saying why this car is special, but you can see (Warning: some mild bad language again).I Robot 2004 Audi RSQ: I haven't seen this movie, but I remember seeing the pictures of Will Smith's concept Audi when it came out. Judge Dredd Land-Rover 101 FC: Land Rover designed the bodywork for this futuristic taxi and fitted it to surplus stock vehicles. Minority Report Lexus 2054 EV: Again, I haven't seen this movie, but I remember the car from the publicity.

I'd miss $50k, but from what I can find of Kyle's earnings for last year it works out at about 2 days' income!. This isn't a regular infringement like speeding in the pit lane, so I don't see why NASCAR can't impose draconian measures to combat this type of behavior. I'd suggest a fine equal to 10% of earnings from the last 12 months. Maybe Kyle wouldn't be so hot-headed if it cost him $870k.

After reading Brian's comment I thought it might be fun to collect pictures of the whole top 100 cars - it wasn't, but once I'd started ... I tried to find as many pictures from the shows/movies as possible, but some are replicas/recreations. I'm sorry that the pictures came out quite small, but I had a lot to fit in. Before I started this I thought I knew most of the popular car movies/shows, but I probably only knew 75-80 of them. I not convinced that all the models/years are correct in the original list, but those are the ones I used. I hope y'all find something new to enjoy: 100. The Monkees 1966 Pontiac GTO 99. No quibbles with the #1, but I'd rearrange some of the other entries. I know the car chase in Ronin was good, and the Audi S8 is a great car, but 70 places higher than ECTO-1?. Nice to see 4 Chargers in the top 40, and a good selection of Bond cars. I thought the DB5 from Goldfinger was a 1964, because it appeared along with Tilly Masterson's pre-production 1964 1/2 Mustang. The Bond Lotus that comes third did turn into a submarine, but I prefered the copper Turbo model that appeared in For Your Eyes Only - 2.2l 4-cylinder engine capable of 150+ MPH stock!.

Heard this on the radio earlier. Crash - The Primitives One-hit-wonder from 1988. This is the original, although is was re-recorded as for the movie 'Dumb and Dumber'.

Tear Stained Letter - Johnny Cash Thanks for that MaryAnne. I've got The Box Tops version, but didn't know Joe Cocker covered it. One of the related links on YouTube also led me to another very different version by Eva Cassidy. At least he had a better time the next year: Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah (New 1964 Version) - Allan Sherman No one here knows where my trunk is And my bunk is where the skunk is And this year the food's improving Cause the little black things in it Are not moving Our camp nurse is quite a swimmer She says swimming makes you slimmer Her name's Mrs. Pellagreenie Have you ever seen a whale in a bikini

The last pictures come from 'The Hack of Hazzard' in season 3 and show more of the buildings from the map above. The area we are looking at was used as Shoveltown near the end of the episode. Various dirt, debris and props have been used to turn it into a deserted mining town. The scene-setting shot is taken form the upper floor of the building at the end of the street. Here's a closer view of the hotel above. It's difficult to make out the sign, but I think it says Southern Belle Hotel. I know the buildings are meant to look run-down, but they look like they're in a pretty poor state of repair. Most were probably torn down soon after this was filmed. As a captive Daisy gets led down the street we can see the Julip Mining Co. building with the 'Farm Implements' building to the left. The Julip Mining Co. building was the one seen above on the right of the alley and with the black car parked in front. As I said before, I'm assuming that this building got torn down before the 'Farm Implements' building because the latter appears in several other episodes including as the Hazzard Livery Stable in 'Nothin' But the Truth' from season 4, and as Morgan's Glueworks in 'The Revenge of Hughie Hogg' from season 5. In 'Nothin' But the Truth' there's a bus parked where the Julip building was standing. The last picture shows the view from inside the 'Farm Implements' building. The end fight scene takes place inside the building. In the background you can see a saloon and an assay office, as well as the pylons on the hillside that are visible in several episodes. I tried Googling 'Southern Belle Hotel', 'W. Earl Hall Land Agent' and 'Julip Mining Co.', but got no useful results. Does anyone recognize them from another TV show or movie, or were the signs made just for this episode?.

Moving on to 'By-Line, Daisy Duke' we see Boss's car outside the 'Farm Implements' building, but from a different angle. I'm sure the white house with brick chimney in the top left is one of the houses in Boss's street, most likely building #21 (the boarding house), but the way the camera shortens distances makes it difficult to tell. As Boss pulls away you can see that the covered area on the right now has some sort sacks under it. Above that is the top of another building in the background. Finally from 'By-Line, Daisy Duke' is a parting shot showing part of the building where the yellow truck was parked in the second 'Mason Dixon's Girls' picture above. Below is an aerial view of how this area appeared in 1980, with a recent view for comparison. The part we're concerned with is in the lower right. I recently suggested that this long-gone street never appeared in Dukes, but I think I'm about to prove myself wrong in the next post!. In the recent view I've arrowed and inset the gazebo from the center of Hazzard Square that was being stored in this area when the photo was taken.

Today I'm going to focus on the buildings behind Boss's house. Way back in post #53 I showed a picture of the back of Cooter's from 'Trouble at Cooter's' and wasn't sure where it was filmed: CDoherty thought it was filmed at Paramount Ranch. I thought that was quite likely as the building was seen out of context, and various other isolated buildings were used in filming. He also pointed out that the buildings also appeared in other episodes including 'Mason Dixon's Girls' and 'The Great Santa Clause Chase'. I hope the following posts shed some light on their true location, and put this loose end to bed (sorry for the mixed metaphors). The following pictures are from 'Mason Dixon's Girls', and show some more of the surrounding buildings. Firstly, Bo and Luke drive up disguised in some of the bad guys' clothes: The second shot shows the car relative to the building used as the back of Cooter's (I'll call it the 'Farm Implements' building due to the sign over the door). The vehicle in the shadows on the left appears to be the uncredited third appearance of Swamp Molly's pickup truck (I've lightened the image and compared the rust against grabs I have of the truck - they match up!). The last shot from 'Mason Dixon's Girls' shows an alley near the front of the black car. I'll explain my reasoning below, but I can only assume that the building on the right and the roof over Bo get torn down before the building on the left.
