  1. This picture from 'People's Chioce' has also bugged me for a while. The house is fairly distinctive, but there's not much scenery to go on, and it only appears very briefly. Just like the last picture, this house is also on Placerita Canyon Road, opposite the entrance to Ravenhill Road. Click here to see how it looks today. Just across the road is this house. It looks as if it may have been under construction when Dukes was filmed; now there's a driveway, pool and surrounding trees. The same intersection is used again almost immediately afterwards. The camera angle has been changed, but that's the General emerging from Ravenhill Road again. The hills in the background are the same as the ones in the second picture of the previous post.
  2. Sometimes it pays to listen to Ferris Bueller's advice, so while I was at the intersection of Sand Canyon Road and Placerita Canyon Road I stopped to look around: if I hadn't, I could've easily misssed something. Luckily I've now ticked off several more of my "unknown" pictures. This is the same intersection as the previous post, but from a different angle. The screengrab is from 'People's Choice'. Here's yet another angle, this time from 'Follow That Still'. That brings us to this picture, which has bugged me for ages. I thought the mountain in the background would be a dead giveaway, but I couldn't locate it anywhere. It turns out this is just up Placerita Canyon Road, and the barriers at the side are where is crosses Happy Trails Road. I should have spotted it sooner. What can I say: the camera lens distorts the distances, the Google Street View is pretty blurry, the trees have grown considerably since 1980, blocking the background, I had a flat tire, I didn't have enough money for cab fare, my tux didn't come back from the cleaners, an old friend came in from out of town, someone stole my car, there was an earthquake, a terrible flood, locusts!

    Tower of Song

A radio show I listen to has a weekly feature where they put up two versions of a song, the original and a good cover, and debate which is better; sometimes with surprising results. For example, this week's comparison was 'Tracks of my Tears' with versions by Smokey Robinson and Linda Ronstadt. It's the one from a couple of weeks ago that still has me undecided. The subject that week was Leonard Cohen's track 'Tower of Song' from his 1988 album 'I'm Your Man'. The cover version was by Tom Jones from his new album 'Spirit in the Room'. I must confess, I didn't know either version beforehand, but expected the Leonard Cohen one to win. After listening to both several times I'm still can't make my mind up. Cohen's version is more tongue-in-cheek with the backing singers, cheap-sounding organ and self-depricating lines like "I was born with the gift of a golden voice". Jones, however, takes the song and makes it his own. He was born with the gift of a golden voice, and with his interpretation it could have been written for him. Have a listen to both and tell me which you prefer: For people who are used to their music a bit more country, Cohen acknowledges the influence of Hank Williams in this verse: I said to Hank Williams, "How lonely does it get?" Hank Williams hasn't answered yet But I hear him coughing all night long Oh, a hundred floors above me in the tower of song If anyone has more suggestions for original/cover versions for comparison, I'd like to hear them as well.
  4. Sorry to interupt your thread with sad news, but did you see that Alan Oakley, the man who designed the Chopper, passed away last Friday. His wife confirmed the now-legendary story that her husband drew the design for the Chopper on an envelope as he travelled home from the USA, in 1967. The full story is here. It looks like Raleigh made a limited edition Mk 3 version in 2004, but moved the gear change and modified the seat - doesn't look nearly as much fun as the originals.
  5. Barrels (used to go over the falls )
  6. I doubt I'll get a chance to look at any of them for a week or two, but to answer your question:

    Allied Security Decals

    Maybe

United States Marshall Decals, Tri County Bonding Company Decals, State Revenue Service Decals

    Coming soon

2005/2007 Hazzard County Police Car Gold Star on Doors Decal

Probably not, although I have red/blue decals for the white car

#107 Racecar From Duke Vs Duke Door Number and Gold Trim, #32 Racecar From Carnival of Thrills Door Number

    Maybe

Bo's #44 NASCAR Trunk Words if Possible to Make Out

Coming to that episode soon, will decide when I see it again

Waylon Jennings Nashville Country and Western Museum Cab Door W Decal and Trailer Decals

Unlikely, a load of work without many good views to work from

Petey Willis's Truck and Racecar Decals, Cooter's Race Car Decals (Luke's Love Story & Duke vs Duke)

If I get enough time to do a Chevelle I'll do both the race cars (unlikely to be soon)

  7. You get a good close-up of one of the Shelby wheels in 'Repo Men' - I think it's outside Ace's car lot. Looks like they're using Summit tires.
  8. You are still avoiding telling me what you plan to do with the images, but it's the first I've heard of this.

  9. This sounds like an odd thing for someone in Ireland to be worrying about - must be because you're in a city. Are they really going to be checking IDs? Maybe the venue has had trouble before, or there's an insurance issue. According to the law it's ok for children aged between 15-17 years to remain on the premises after 9pm (10pm May to September) where they are attending a private function at which a substantial meal is served. You can check it out on www.citizensinformation.ie. Do you get a meal? There wasn't anything equivalent to the debs or a prom in the UK - probably just as well because I went to an all boys school . Maybe you could get an over 18 friend to enquire about the venue's policy without mentioning your name. A few years ago I saw a group waiting for the bus that was taking them to their debs. Most of the girls looked quite grown-up in posh dresses (a few had strange fashion ideas), whereas most of the boys looked like fourteen-year-olds who'd been made to have a bath and put a suit on. It's amazing how much the age gap shows at these events.
  10. How about a bit of soul?: This 1967 classic is by Aretha's older sister. As "Weird Al" would say: You can torture me With Donnie & Marie You can play some Barry Manilow Or you can play some schlock Like New Kids On The Block Or any Village People song you know Or play Vanilla Ice Hey, you can play him twice And you can play the Bee Gees any day But Mr. DJ, please I'm beggin' on my knees I just can't take no more of Billy Ray Don't play that song That "Achy Breaky" song The most annoying song I know And if you play that song That "Achy Breaky" song I might blow up my radio, ooo ...
  11. My album

All the pictures are mixed up.

  12. You can see Lee01383's wheels here. If they don't have center caps, one easy way to tell the American Racing wheels is that they should have "American Racing Equipment" stamped on the back: If you don't find this stamp it doesn't necessarily mean you have Shelby wheels; there were other manufacturers that made this style. I found a set of Rocket Vector wheels on Ebay when I looked earlier.
  13. I think this is another of Garrett's favorite groups :
  14. All four episodes are listed on CMT.com: 4.00 PM Mrs. Daisy Hogg 5.00 PM Double Dukes 6.00 PM Diamonds in the Rough 7.00 PM Coltrane Vs. Duke
  15. Hi Zrad, welcome to HNet .
  16. I spotted this knife in 'Too Many Roscos'. It's from the scene where Bo and Luke are tied up in the same shack as Rosco (although they haven't discovered him at this point). The main part of the handle is bone colored, so it may be the same as the one Sissy saw in 'Miz Tisdale on the Lam' (see above). The handle also features a fancy gold portion nearest the blade: I'll have to leave the identification of his one to you guys. Everyone here doesn't own a knife (unless they live in Limerick - joke for Irish readers there ), so I have no personal experience.
  17. I use Photobucket. They've increased the sizes you can post for free since I signed up.

  18. I keep adding pictures to my "unknown" folder, so it's great when I can pull a couple out and cross them off the list. I was actually trying to find a completely different location when I found this one. The pictures are from near the end of 'Hazzard Connection'. Most of the action takes place on either Carlisle Road or Potrero Road near Lake Sherwood. For some reason this very short scene was filmed nowhere near there. A few posts back I posted some pictures from Placerita Canyon Road. If I'd only kept following it I'd have found this place earlier. It's right at the end at the intersection with Sand Canyon Road. The houses in the background are still there, but they're now hidden by trees. Here's the view from a different angle with Placerita Canyon Road on the right. Click here to see how it looks today. If you zoom out of Street View and go about half a mile south from this intersection you come to Sable Ranch where the obstacle course from the game show 'Wipeout' is located. You'll have to zoom right in and have the 45 degree view turned on to see it properly, otherwise you'll just see unfinished blue shapes in a field.
  19. I can't really answer that question. If I'm just looking for a particular image, and I know where to find it, I can have a screengrab posted in under 10 minutes. With the patrol cars I may have to go through several episodes before I find one good picture. Along the way I might find other scenes to grab for other purposes, and also some of them need a fair amount of research.

I plan to complete the Patrol Cars in Pictures thread ASAP, but that may still be a couple of months. It will include all seven seasons as well as both reunion movies. I don't have the 2005/2007 movies and don't really have any interest in them. I know I did the race car decals, but that was because I had assumed that the use of mainly stock logos would make it a relatively easy job. If I'd known the amount of work involved, I probably wouldn't have done them.

  20. David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser had cameos in the 2004 Starsky and Hutch movie, as did Dwight Schultz and Dirk Benedict in the 2010 A-Team movie, so there is a precedent for the original stars to appear in remakes. Having said that, it would need to be much better script than the last two Dukes movies to entice any of our favorites back (just my opinion, obviously).
  21. I try to skip through every episode - that's why it takes so long.

  22. chips (that's what you guys call fries, not what we call crisps )
