    Signs of Hazzard

Over Christmas I decided to reproduce the sign from the Genetic Research lab in 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Duke'. The typeface was meant to look like a computer readable font - a kind of '80s shorthand to show science or computer related things, although this example shows little consistency. There are variations between the two lines, and even the same letter when it's repeated on a line (I've regularized my version a little). I think a computer would've had a hard time reading it back in the mid '80s . Here's how it looked in the show.
  2. I'm straying out of Valencia Oaks now, but the same episode also included a couple of other locations shared with Dukes. Several scenes featured these rain-slicked roads running through woodland. The double yellow lines in the center of the road, coupled with the curb on the left, leads me to believe that they were filmed somewhere in Griffith Park, although I didn't get around to finding the exact location. The Dutton mansion was located on West Potrero Road near Lake Sherwood. Here's Devon and Bonnie's limo approaching from the east. This is Samantha Dutton's Mercedes entering the main gates. If you check out Google Maps you'll see that 782 West Potrero Road is still recognizable today. I'll conclude the Knight Rider pictures with a view looking west from the location above. On the left you can see the white fencing that was seen in countless episodes of Dukes. The speed limit at the corner has now been reduced to 25MPH even though the large tree on the right is no longer there.
  3. If you looked at post #7 you'll already have seen some pictures of how the Duke Farm looked in this episode - here's a few more. The first shows a different angle, looking across the front of the farmhouse. The only change I can spot at the side of the farmhouse is that the old screens on the back porch have been replaced with a white trellis (just above the bed of the truck). While the bad guys are trying to burn down the farmhouse, we get a view of back walls - an angle I don't remember seeing in Dukes. The picture shows there are no windows on this side, although there is a door on the side of the kitchen. This close-up gives a better shot of the usually unseen kitchen door.
  4. There was a query on the Facebook page earlier today about whether the Boar's Nest appeared in an episode of Knight Rider. It turns out that the Valencia Oaks Boar's Nest did appear in Knight Rider, although with a few cosmetic changes. The episode was called 'Out of the Woods' (S04E14), the same episode that used (and set fire to) the Duke Farm - pictures back in post #7. The Boar's Nest sign was replaced with one saying "DUTTON INDUSTRIES HUMBOLDT MILL", the entrance was remodeled, a louvred window was added at each side, and there's no sign of any hubcaps! Here's a close-up of the new entrance showing the familiar tiled sides. It looks like the base of the old entrance was left in place. All four of the approach roads were used during the episode - this is the one that goes past the barn. The logging trucks were unloaded in what we know as the Boar's Nest car park. The picture above was taken on the road at the far left of the picture, next to the small shack (which did not appear in Dukes).
  5. Hi Matt, welcome to HNet. Like you, I'm only a fan of the TV series (and original cast TV movies), but you will find fans of the later movies here. I hope you enjoy your stay .
  6. Y'all are too good at this. BL got them all very quickly, and Roger wasn't far behind. Can no one confirm Tom's middle name? Just to confirm the answers, here's the full list: Richard Douglas Hurst Waylon Arnold Jennings Denver Dell Pyle John Richard Schneider III Otis Burt Shroyer Jr. I wasn't sure how to phrase the next question, so I'll give clues if it doesn't make sense! What connects the following episodes, and which is the odd one out?: 'Arrest Jesse Duke', 'Treasure of Hazzard', 'Baa, Baa White Sheep', 'Twin Trouble'.
  7. My New Year's resolution is 1920 x 1200 pixels @ 60 Hz (same as last year) - hope this help .

    Commercials

I'm sure y'all know that us Brits need a good cup of tea before we'll do anything, so what happens when we visit the US of A? Yorkshire Tea had the answer when they sent over Little Urn in a converted ice cream van to rescue Brits from terrible tea. They even included a special blend to cope with the hard water in Nevada:
  9. I'm playing out of turn again and, as usual, it's because of sad news. This time it's to mark the passing of Patti Page earlier this week at the age of 85 (she only gave up touring last September!). I have the song below on a compilation, but I couldn't find a video for it (I chose it because it shares a word with the song in the previous post). Trust In Me - Patti Page She is best known for her hits of the '50s, including and , and was due to receive a Lifetime Achievement award at next month's Grammy ceremony. My personal favorite is , which is the song on Marvin's record player when John McClane first meets him in 'Die Hard 2'. I was reminded of the song, and rediscovered the original, when Groove Armada sampled it in their chilled-out track .If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air Quaint little villages here and there You're sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod R.I.P. Clara Ann Fowler aka. Patti Page (November 8, 1927 – January 1, 2013)
  10. They're making a limited run of 100 "Next Generation" First Blood knives if you're interested. Buy one at the bargain price of just $3500! Jimmy Lile Next Generation First Blood Knife
  11. That was obviously way too easy . Here's Coltrano the Great with his "magic box": Can you match the middle names to the regular cast members?: Arnold, Burt, Dell, Douglas, Richard Rick Hurst Waylon Jennings Denver Pyle John Schneider Sonny Shroyer Can anyone confirm Tom's middle name? I found a couple of references to Stephen, but IMDb.com just lists him as "Thomas S. Wopat".
  12. He was born January 1, 1946, so, if my math is correct, I think that makes him 67.
  13. This version appeared in 'Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery', and it leads me back to . It was a sample from that version that Maverick Sabre used on his 2012 single .
  14. No, he was five hours late .
  15. Sorrell appeared in two episodes of 'Columbo' in the '70s, and seeing as I've just mentioned that fact in The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread, I thought I'd include a picture. The screengrab below is from the 1977 episode 'The Bye-Bye Sky High I.Q. Murder Case' (the other episode was 'Swan Song' in 1974).
  16. I hope my tribute to Jack Klugman didn't mislead both of you, because the answer is A) Murder She Wrote, although Denver once played a character called Tom Quincy in an episode of 'Perry Mason'. I included 'Columbo' in the options because Sorrell Booke appeared in two episodes of that show. Despite (or maybe because of) her earlier marriage to Angela Lansbury's stepson, Cathy was never in 'Murder She Wrote'. The episodes were: Tom Wopat as Bill Dawson in 'Kendo Killing' (1996). Denver Pyle as Eben Connors in 'Coal Miner's Slaughter' (1988). Rick Hurst as Police Chief Slocum in 'Something Borrowed, Someone Blue' (1989). Byron Cherry as Deputy Will Roxie in 'It's a Dog's Life' (1984). The title of Denver's episode was obviously a play on the title of Loretta Lynn's biopic, and also included Dukes' guest star Hoyt Axton and Megan Mullally from 'Will & Grace'. For today's question I'm returning briefly to 'Opening Night at the Boar's Nest' (sorry Roger). Rosco used a "magic box" to make Boss disappear, but what was the Oriental design on the front of it? A) A pagoda The Great Wall of China C) A panda D) A Samurai warrior E) Mount Fuji
  17. Seeing as no one else is jumping in with answers, I'll put you out of your misery, Roger. Cletus crashed his car to distract Bo and Luke while Rosco swapped the horses in 'The Rustlers'. 'Enos in Trouble' was close, but it was from another episode where Enos was the target: 'Enos's Last Chance' (Scanlon was after Enos). You were right about 'Jude Emery' (and you got all the owners first time round) . As he was the star of one of the choices, I'll dedicate this question to Jack Klugman, who sadly passed away on Monday at the age of 90. Cast regulars Tom Wopat, Denver Pyle, Rick Hurst and Byron Cherry have all made guest appearances in which TV detective show? A) Murder She Wrote Columbo C) Remington Steele D) Hart to Hart E) Quincy M.E.
  18. The one you have right is actually Rosco's Le Mans in 'To Catch a Duke'. I remembered the Doomsday Gang blowing a car up, but had to double-check whose it was - turns out it was Rosco's patrol car (in virtually the same location). Here's a hint for each one of the others: Enos's car gets blown up because Enos is the target! Cletus crashes his car to act as a distraction. Grady Byrd was in two episodes.
  19. OK, so Roger's got all the drivers/owners correct, but only one of the episodes. Can y'all help him out before I reveal the answers?
  20. After Jesse got Rosco to move, he finally got the banner up just in time for the big day .
  21. I saw it, but it's really late here. I will get to it first thing in the morning :)

  22. I was going to send out the picture below in PMs - posting it here eliminates the risk of missing anyone . "Beannachtaí an tSéasúir" to CDoherty and anyone else in Ireland. "¡Feliz Navidad y próspero año nuevo!" to CarlosArgentino and the Spanish speakers. "Buon Natale e felice anno nuovo" to i1976! and any other Italian members. For the rest of y'all, I hope "Merry Christmas and a happy New Year" does the job .
