I hate to ruin that last post by saying something bad about the HazzardNet but this needs to be said. I just clicked on Meadowmufn's profile and the Community Reputation listing said "Excellent". Either this listing is 1) manipulated by the webmaster 2) a result of a hacker 3) given by people who don't really know Meadowmufn that well. Either way this problem needs fixed and "excellent" needs to be adjusted to "ridge running troublemaker".

Hmm... that must've happened the last time HazzardNet was hacked many years ago.  Thanks for the compliments, Roger. I'm not a hero, but I'm glad HNet has brought you such happiness over the years.

I'm not really rooting for the Rams, I'm rooting against the Patriots. My Steelers are the only team with 6 Super Bowl wins. The Patriots, Cowboys and 49ers all have 5 so I root against them.

I am rooting FOR the Rams. As a California girl and someone who grew up near L.A., I'm a long time Rams fan. Loved the Kurt Warner years. I was hoping for a Chargers/Rams Super Bowl, but that was a huge longshot. My family lived in San Diego until the early 70's and I still have plenty of relatives near San Diego, so I've been a Chargers fan for a while too. They were my grandmother's favorite team.

  3. Guess who turned 20 years old on January 11th? Completely slipped my mind. I started HazzardNet on 1/11/1999. I want to thank everyone who has helped make HazzardNet what it is and who've stuck with me all these years. I know I haven't been around much lately due to health issues and stress from work, so I'm incredibly grateful so many of you are still here keeping the spirit of the Dukes alive.

  4. I know there's a state park named after some of my distant ancestors in NY, Letchworth State Park. Jimmie had ancestors with the same last name in the same county in the same time period as mine. I would be willing to bet that with such an uncommon name in the same area in the late 1600's/early 1700's, Jimmie and I were probably distant cousins. I just haven't been able to find a connection yet, but I keep looking.

That said, I wonder if there's a castle somewhere named for or belonging to my ancestors.

We don't always use the word "County" before the county names, e.g. I would probably just say I was going to Cork at the weekend. Many of the counties have a major town/city with the same name as the county (e.g. Cork, Limerick, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Kildare etc.), so the suffix "Town" or "City" may be added for clarity if that's your destination. The "County" prefix seems to be used slightly more in Northern Ireland, so it's not unusual to hear "County Down" instead of just "Down".

As for County Hazzard, if we can cope with Americans writing dates the wrong way around, we can remember that it's Hazzard County ;).

Jimmie was fond of limericks. :D Some of the ones he told me, I can't repeat here.

I've been watching a lot of stories on "Mysteries at the Museum" on the Travel Channel. This stuff is so fascinating. I visited the Boldt Castle in Thousand Islands New York. If it's not the nicest castle on this side of the planet it's certainly close. But that experience must be nothing like walking into a centuries old castle on the other side of that big pond.

I love that show. I found it on Netflix and watched all the episodes they had over a weekend.

^This problems seems to persist, which I can certainly live with.

Since a few months however when I try replying to a topic using my phone, which I always use to browse forums with nowadays, it doesn't post the message and just goes back to an empty typing box. I haven't tried if this is to do with certain topics or if it is random, but more often then not I have to wait till I'm at my PC to reply now.

I'll look into it. Looks like there's an update to the software, so I'll try to get that done this weekend to see if it fixes any of the issues.

If we're going for other languages:

Breithlá sona duit, go maire tú an céad!

(one for MM's Celtic ancestors there)

For everyone not celebrating their birthday:

    Nollaig shona dhuit!

I'm more Scottish (mostly from Ayrshire) than Irish and I only know a bit of Scottish Gaelic. "Ciamar a tha thu?" ;)  And I'm more British than Scottish and Irish put together. I have a tiny dash of Native American. Research suggests that one of my 5th great-grandmothers was Chickasaw.

Indeed, I'm sure some were my distant kin! ( my family is from County Down)

Some of my ancestors are from County Down too! We have some ancestors from County Donegal and there are family rumors about County Cork too, but so far no confirmation in my research.

  10. Aw, shucks. Thanks everybody, especially Hoss for that banner. :) I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. We had a great Christmas with my sister's family and I had a wonderful birthday. I've got the next week off to rest and recover and I'm hoping I go into the new year feeling better. Health and happiness to you all!

I tell ya my christmas cheer is running a little low... Last few weeks been lousy. First my pc Tower motherboard blows a few capacitors and renders it useless, then my wife's laptop fan's bearings go out so that was a nice $130 wallet lightening. Then 2 flat tires on both cars, 1 a piece and strangely both on the passenger side rear, think they were both due to the housing development construction going on down the street, at least they happened on separate weeks. Top it off the dang neighbor let his drug addicted buddy stay with him for a few weeks which is always fun for us since they get into yelling matches every single day and we get to come home to our apartment smelling like skunk and burning tires since the lazy bum smokes weed all day.

I just keep telling myself at least I have my health and things could be worse but man could I use a bottle of Jack Daniels right about now  If it weren't' for watching some Dukes on DVD I'd probably get bleepfaced everynight.

Yes, be grateful you have your health. My Christmas cheer has been running low too because I'm too sick to decorate or do all the things I'd like to do to get ready for the holidays. The last two years have been a neverending battle with health issues. The one thing I want for Christmas is to be healthy.

  12. "I've worked seven days a week, 80 hours a week, at least since 1978."

    1. I have no doubt he works hard, but I am willing to call BS on this statement. That is hard to keep up for 40 years. And acting is not a very consistent gig.
    2. Should have had insurance on the studio.
    3. He's been divorced twice. One would think he would have had a pre-nup the second time.

In his defense though, it sounds like his wife is responsible for a lot of his fortune disappearing in the first place. (https://theblast.com/john-schneider-financial-problems/)

"Schneider also lays some of the blame for his financial hardship on Elvira. He claims when she filed for divorce in 2014, she also withdrew $200,000 from their joint account and transferred it to a separate account without his consent. He also claims Elvira “never attempted to work or even find work” during their marriage. Schneider also claims she ran up $15,000 per month on their American Express and put them both “in severe debt to commercial institutions, the IRS and the state government.""
