  1. On to project #10: Hughie Hogg's Volkswagen! The first thing I discovered was that it was NOT repeat NOT a true convertible. Rather, it was a chop-top, as evidenced by the sedan-style windscreen, and the bottoms of the window posts still remaining. The second thing I had to learn was the difference between the classic Beetle and the Super Beetle. Some of you already know this, but it was new to me. Although the differences are easy to miss at first glance, I now see clearly that Hughie's ride was most definitely a Super Beetle with the roof cut off. After much more research and guidance from folks at an automotive modeling forum, I realized (after much frustration) that I was going to have to kitbash THREE different kits to do this. 1) Aoshima Beetle 1303S for most (not all) of the body and the bumpers 2) Revell '68 Beetle for the chassis, engine, windscreen, rear body vents, tail lights and much of the interior 3) Revell VW Cabriolet for some of the interior and some of the body details I should also mention part of my research was to go through every Dukes episode in which this vehicle appeared, pause the DVD whenever a good view appeared from any angle, and photograph the scene. I then had the photos made into prints to use as I build. Maybe low-tech, but it works for me.

A small F1 excursion here. This weekend the Grand Prix is at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium - a favorite track of mine and many of the drivers. In free practice earlier today, Fernando Alonso (back in F1 after racing in the Indy 500 and Le Mans over the last few years) had a helmet camera to give a driver's eye view of the track. I'm prevented from embedding the video, but you can see it on YouTube.

  4. No the rain didn't get me but it was close. I'm about 70m east of Nashville and that's ( Waverly in Humphreys county) about 75 miles west of Nashville.

I'm surprised you never got yourself a mule to help look after your back 40, Roger.

  7. I'm not a fan of the reunion movies but Hughie would have been the best choice. It would have made Boss's death just a little easier to take, knowing he would have approved of Hughie taking his place....even though Huggie drove him nuts.

Hey Skipper is it technological possible to post a link of this thread and post it on FB? A lot of Dukes fans would love it and it could bring more members to HN

  9. I try to get out on 'green-lanes' as they're called over here in the UK in my Land Rover. They have full vehicular rights, but aren't concreted/tarmacced. Sadly the access we have is being curtailed by law, due to a vociferous campaign by the Rambler Association (hikers) & with a Government Ministers in their associatio,as you can guess it's a bit one sided. At the same time, the the paths they use are constantly being eroded due to over-use, OR,, being resurfaced with materials alien to the surroundings. 'Rant Mode' off On a similar vein, guess what the 4x4 hating Minister Of Transport drives??? Give in? A Range Rover Hypocrite, or what???

  10. I love art! I love making art, viewing art, learning about art work... Well, my friends, I found a wonderful painting that I'm sure all of you would love! It's a Masterpiece! If any of you are fimilar with the caveman paintings in France, you'll love this one! Even if you don't like the caveman paintings, I think if you're visiting Hazzardnet, you'll want to see this work of art! It goes to show you, that cavemen had good taste in art too! Actually it's painted by a man named Brandon Bird. The name of the work is called "Two Warriors Come Out of the Sky". http://www.brandonbird.com/twowarriors.html Tell me what you think! I personally love it! This artist has captured the essense of a warrior. Val

    The last 24 hours

Woke up early this morning to what sounded like someone dumping buckets of water on the roof. Turned on the local weather radar channel and seen a big blotch if red right above our area. According to the local news In less than an hour we got over 2 inches, possibly 3 inches, of rain, 10 miles west of us got over 5 inches of rain in the same time frame. And the lightning, never seen anything like it, there was so many flashes you could read a book by the light of it. Where we park the cars is sort of a peak in the parking lot luckily so the water never reached our cars, but some of the cars parked in the lower section of the lot had water upto the bottom of the doors. The downpour was so fast that it even moved some of the parking pads into the middle of the parking lot. Glad to hear you're ok Hobie
