Ultimate Cooter's Tow Truck -- WIP
MoonRunner-01 reacted to Andrew D Charger Chaser for a topic
Hey y'all, Been away from you too long, working on what I thought was an impossible project that I almost gave up on. I'm now ready to begin posting an amazing (and frustrating) journey to build the most accurate Cooter's Tow Truck ever done. Maybe. First off, there were several tow trucks used over the series. Here's (mostly) when each appears: -Season 1: Brown Chevy, simple tow rig -Season 2: White/Blue Ford with Red Holmes wrecker -Seasons 3-4: Big Yellow Ford -Late Season 4 through 7: White/Blue GMC with Red Holmes wrecker By far my favorite is the GMC. There was also a similar White/Blue Chevy with a much wider wrecker rear that showed up in a handful of episodes mid-series. THE PROBLEM: Not only is the MPC kit of Cooter's Tow Truck completely fictitious, but there is NO kit or conversion available in existence to make the correct Holmes wrecker (everything aft of the cab). This would be the most ambitious scratchbuilding project I've undertaken to date. Let's begin with a photo of my target subject, the GMC with Holmes wrecker:1 point -
Hello.

Hi, all. I'm a newish Dukes of Hazzard fan as I first watched random episodes of the show on TV a few years ago and now I'm watching them in their respective order, so far I'm on Season 4 and really enjoying it. That said, I'm glad there's this community as the show has been deemed "racist" by the media and so many would rather avoid talking about it even though the boys, Hogg and everyone were never offensive/racist (Hogg and Rosco were corrupt and slimy, but that's their thing). Bye.1 point -

I didn't blow my horn because I didn't want him to think I was doing it in protest. I wanted to catch him and give him a thumbs up but i spent all of the race in his dust.....did I mention we stayed below the speed limit? LOL1 point -

You might be surprised how many Confederate flags you see up here Hobie.....mostly in yards and front license plates. Not all of us Yankees have lost their sanity. Ray Kohn and his Northeast Ohio Dukes are from my neck of the woods.1 point -

I'm surprised someone from there would have a "Terrible" flag like that on their car!1 point -

TMI TMI.....hey Spike....where's the NASCAR report! LOL1 point -
We just got back from our daughter's in Virginia. On the Pennsylvania Turnpike on the way home I was being passed by an orange car and looked over and saw a big 01 on the door. And then I noticed it was a newer Charger with a Confederate flag on the top. You guess it. I decided to go after it.....keeping under the speed limit of course......I lost.....but still, not everybody can say they raced a General Lee. It turned on Interstate 99 and headed north toward Penn State. I think it had New York plates. I wonder if it was heading home after going to Cooter's.1 point

How times change. I did computer graphics on my course, and it didn't get more exciting than palette swapping and XOr putting. Then again my 486 DX 33 was faster than the 386s that my college had, and we were writing in TurboPascal. I also had an enormous 105Mb HDD and upgraded to 8Mb RAM at a price that would make your eyes water .1 point -

No, not them specifically; that was the Marine fighter squadron VMF-214, the "Black Sheep". The squadron I did began their days in the same general island chain flying the same planes (F4U-1A Corsairs) and were also a bunch of outcasts from other squadrons due to behavior; they were VF-17 Jolly Rogers, a unit which technically still flies today as VFA-103 Jolly Rogers. Was amazed at the information I was able to gather, and then having to create markings for decals that did not exist, and sometimes modifying to create planes for which there were no existing models either. Was quite a project, but finally accomplished their entire aircraft history from 1943-present day.0 points -
Fitbits work great now that they put out a software update. Mine said I did 20,000 steps today while mowing, though that might be a bit off as no electronic pedometer will be 100% spot on. On the way home this afternoon I took a shortcut through a nearby neighborhood thinking it would be safer than the main road after an incident I had yesterday with a jerk in a work van. It was until I came across a few hooligans recklessly riding ATV's doing donuts in the street. The one took off down a side street and the other two about ran into the side of my car as I drove past. Hooligans like this have become a problem in the inner city lately, even blocking traffic for their stupid stunts, and now it looks like they've spread out to the suburbs. I'll never forget the motorcyclist I seen on the road with his head split open. My grandma chewed my grandpa out for taking me over to the accident scene. The cop took me over to the body and said "that's why you should wear a helmet when you ride you're bicycle." I don't remember how young I was at the time though, 6 or 7 I think.0 points
