Dukes of Hazzard News

Get ready to call him the "25 Million Dollar Sheriff." James Best is suing Time-Warner/Warner Bros over unpaid royalties. Best claims he was owed 5% of all Dukes of Hazzard merchandising revenue for stuff that contained Sheriff Rosco likeness. By his estimates/his attorney's estimates, that could have been 5 to 25 million during the Dukes heyday alone. Best has actually collected something around $175,000 for this stuff in the last 30 years. I'm working on an HNet homepage update and will supply more details there, but that's the meat n' potatoes of it!

For anyone who isn't familiar with it, Sonny Shroyer was the lead actor in an independent film called "A Tale About Bootlegging". I recently purchased the DVD and since there is so little info online about it, I've put up a page with a review and screencaptures. It's a quirky, slap-stick comedy and it's well worth a watch. I usually just lurk on here rather than post stuff but this past week I had the opportunity to interview Ben Jones about Hazzard Homecoming. Ben was exactly what you'd expect him to be: a nice guy, easy to talk to and good humored. I can't exactly figure out the policy on links here (how do you email an admin? Yes November 7 1978 filming began in Conyers,Covington Ga.

This tidbit came from the back alleys of Hazzard, and I haven't verified it yet. But there's enough plausibility in this to go ahead and post what I've heard. Season 2 of the Dukes of Hazzard is expected to be in stores in time for Christmas shopping. November 01 is the projected release date. The Season One DVD is enjoying strong sales and has literally flown from the shelves. Reportedly it's been in the top 5 sellers since it's release. If released this fall as projected, it would closely coincide with the third Dukes video game that's slated for release this October. Do you guys remember the crooked sheriff in Cool Hands Bo and Luke? Cashius Claiborne I think? It seems he was in the original movie, Cool Hands Luke and played a similar part in this TDOH episode. I saw where he died at 93, but can't get the article to copy/paste for some reason. I think he was in one or two other DOH episodes, if I'm not mistaken....

I just saw Bo on "The Faulkner Focus" promoting his new movie "To Die For". It is a patriotic themed movie and looks really good. Maybe someone could post a link on how to get it. It was pretty interesting to hear him explain why Hollywood doesn't put out movies like this and why it is so important that they do get out in some other way. Hollywood has been corrupt for awhile now. Even James Best mentioned it when they moved Dukes out of Georgia. I think he called it a sewer. They claim to love diversity but ignore half of America. A big yeehaww goes out to John for recognizing that.

Has anyone else gotten their copies of the new album yet? I got mine yesterday. I haven't gotten the chance to listen to it yet though. It has been far to hectic at my house lately.
