Oh My Darlin' Clementine(1884) In a cavery in a canyon, Excavating for a mine, Dwelt a miner forty-niner And his daughter Clementine Light She was and like a fairy, And her shoes were number nine, Herring Boxes, without topses, Sandals were for Clementine Oh, my darlin', Oh My Darlin', Oh, My darlin, Clementine You are best and gone forever Dreadful sorry Clementine. Drove she ducklings to the water Ev'ry morning just at nine, Hit her foot againist a splinter, Fell into the foaming brine. Ruby lips above the water, Blowing bubbles soft and fine, Alas, for me! I was no swimmer, So I lost my Clementine. Oh, my darlin', Oh my darlin', Oh, my darlin' Clementine You are lost…

Here's a fact I stumbled across recently, and maybe ya'll knew this already, or maybe not. But for a quirk of fate, ol' Waylon might not have been with us long enuff to become the Balladeer for the Dukes of Hazzard. Back in the late 50's, a rising rock star by the name of Buddy Holly had put together a new back-up band for a winter concert tour. Waylon Jennings became his bass guitarist. Legend has it, that Buddy was tired of freezing his posterior off on the tour bus ( they weren't as fancy in those days) and instead arranged for a small airplane to fly them to the last stop on the tour. The plane was a four-seater only. Waylon gave up his seat to someone else, an…

When I was young I used to wait Upon My Master and serve his plate And pass the bottle when he got dry An' brush away the blue tail fly Jimmy crack corn an' I don't care, (Repeat Twice) The masters gone away The horse he ran he jumped he pitched, He tumbled master in the ditch He died an' the jury wondered why, The Verdict was the blue tail fly. What happened between these two young people is bad, and I sure hope she doesn't stick by his side as well. Now I've never heard either one's music but what he did to her is pretty bad right now.

Now we all now know that John Schneider wrote this song but think about this as question and think about your own Grandfather in your life? Personally if I've heard this on July19th, 1997 I think I probaly would've been in tears because that when my Grandpa Varwig's funeral was and it was real that he was gone.

Occasionally, I find myself changing the lyrics of songs to something more Hazzard-like. I thought I'd start a thread for folks to post their own creations. If you have a Christmas song, post it in the Christmas Lyrics thread. And I'll start off with my Duke-ified rendition of Jose Cuervo, entitled Rosco P. Coltrane... and if you don't know the tune, you can listen to it here. Well, it's Friday night And the sun is settin' And my eyes are glued To the tv and I'm sittin' On the floor with my family I can't stop grinnin' I watched Dukes of Hazzard tonight! Rosco P. Coltrane You are a friend of mine I like to watch you On the tv all the time Did you catch them Duke Boys? …

So I heard this song by the Zac Brown Band for the first time last week and immediately fell in love with it. If there ever was another song that would emmulate the Duke boys, this would be it. You know I like my chicken fried Cold beer on a Friday night A pair of jeans that fit just right And the radio up Well I was raised up beneath the shade of a Georgia pine And that`s home you know Sweet tea pecan pie and homemade wine Where the peaches grow And my house it`s not much to talk about But it`s filled with love that`s grown in southern ground And a little bit of chicken fried Cold beer on a Friday night A pair of jeans that fit just right And the radio up Well I`ve see…
