    RIP Rick Hurst

When I first met Rick, it was in the 90's, so the WWW was in its infancy. When I told him about HazzardNet's predecessor (the Hazzard County Sheriff's Department on Prodigy), he was excited there was a community of fans online still discussing and enjoying the show. He told me he'd be right back and when he returned, he handed me an enormous folder of 8x10s, several of them signed. That was very generous of him. I still have them packed away from the move, but when I find them (someday), I will scan them in and put them on the site. When I mentioned where I worked at the time, we had a connection there and he told me some amazing stories. We just had an awesome conversation. He was very personable and gracious. At the Dukesfest in '01, I got to do an impromptu square dance with him and Jimmie. Good times. I would've liked to have gotten to know him better, but my health and work situations over the years didn't permit me to get to events as much as I'd have liked.

  2. random thought... does anybody know if any of the episodes aired on any ot the cast members birthdays? or possibly they "worked" on their birthday.

  3. I know I've posted something like this before, but this is more detailed. I have several "errors" situations etc. firstly, we know that the 1st episode aired in 1979. in it Waylon says last year (1978) the boys got caught on a run. in happy birthday general lee (aired 1984) we learn 8 years prior (1976) is when they got the general, bo was "just getting out of hs", Luke got out or marines, (not sure of how long someone could/had to stay in service back then) but they were even on probation then. (my guess is they never wanted they boys to use guns) Daisys shotgun wedding (aired 1983) : she had been working at boars nest for 4 years. was it 79 or 76? Hazzard hijack: Lukes's marine "buddy" was part of stolen money 5 years prior (1976) (they never "found" each other after Luke came home) 1979 ghost of general lee rosco says he chased the boys so many times over the years it was only three years I'm sure it was more (but I'm specifically talking of the general) bye bye boss 1981: ten years prior boss sent digger to jail (the "kids" did not know about it) play it again luke 1984: luke last saw candy 7 years prior (1977) there are several others that "meet each other" I know they were never thinking facts for timelines just rewatching it is funny with some episodes.

In the Austrian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz Jnr's Williams broke down on the grid, so only 19 cars started the race. Oscar Piastri started third, but got ahead of Charles Leclerc at the first bend and spent most of the first stint right on Lando Norris' rear wing and even briefly overtook once. Canadian Grand Prix winner George Russell got past Lewis Hamilton at the start, but Hamilton retook the place be the end of the first lap. Max Verstappen was hit by Kimi Antonelli on the first lap, ending both of their races. Max's team mate, Yuki Tsunoda got a 10-second penalty later in the race for causing a collision and was the last car running at the end, so no points for Red Bull at their home track, the Red Bull Ring. It was also a bad day for Williams as their other car driven by Alex Albon had to retire from a top 10 position after 17 laps. The pit stops gave Lando a bit of breathing space at the front, but there were some good battles behind. After the second pit stops, Oscar was catching Lando, but Lando managed to hang on to the lead through the back markers and took the win for a McLaren 1-2. Oscar's lead in the drivers' championship is now down to 15 points. Ferrari finished third and fourth, and overtook Mercedes in the constructors' championship. Liam Lawson scored his best F1 finish in sixth. Liam had a bad start to the season at Red Bull and got demoted to their junior team RB (Racing Bulls). He now has two more points than Yuki Tsunoda who replaced him! Gabriel Bortoleto also had a great result scoring his first F1 points in eighth in his Sauber. You can see the race highlights here. Next week it's the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. It's the only race of the year that gets shown live here on free-to-air TV, but the weather will determine if I stay in to watch it live.

    RIP Rick Hurst

I forgot to mention 'On the Rocks'. Rick played one of the inmates in this prison-set sitcom in the mid-70s. It was based on the British sitcom 'Porridge', which coincidentally I'm watching right now. I've only ever seen a couple of clips of 'On the Rocks' - maybe it'll make it online one day. Here's the intro:

    RIP Rick Hurst

I can’t believe it in a sense, but there it is. Rick Hurst has crossed the creek on that rainbow bridge, now not only reunited with his kinfolk, but also a lot of the Dukes family who’ve gone on before him. I’m saddened I never got to meet him, I think it would have been fun to know him. God bless y’all. Tom Duke

  10. That is a good question. I'd never thought about it. Only a big time Dukes fan would wonder something like that!

Thanks, Garrett. I hope you get time to watch the highlights videos that I link to. They're only about 8 minutes long, and probably make a lot more sense than my reviews. That's good news that Chase Elliot got a win at the weekend.

    Enter, Cletus!

I’m watching Season 1’s “Money To Burn”, which first introduced Cletus Hogg, in memory of Rick Hurst. As Enos/Sonny said…”RIP, buddy roe!” Rick Hurst: 1946-2025.

  19. This is a 5-year-old video from Ed Bolian's VINwiki YouTube channel. He posts a lot of videos and I don't have time to watch many of them, but I enjoy the ones I do get time to see. This week, the VINwiki channel also posted the latest series of Car Trek. For those of you who haven't seen the previous editions, Car Trek features YouTubers Ed Bolian (VINwiki), Tyler Hoover (Hoovies Garage) and Freddy Hernandez (Tavarish) doing car challenges similar to those seen on Top Gear. To save having to go through MSN, here's the General Lee video:

  21. Howdy y’all, this is just a little thread I wanted to create to help us walk down memory lane, we all remember Dukes, but what other shows did you grow up with as a kid? Interested to see what people grew up with and remember

  22. I only had NBC my entire childhood so missed a lot of shows. When I was 19 and Dukes came out I would go to my grandparents to watch it. They could afford a nicer antenna and really tall pole for it.

  23. Things really going downhill from here. Even Skipper has passed Roger. Looking like a fourth place finish. But wait! In the excitement of the competition Roger forgot about the back up nitrous oxide Cooter installed for moments just like this. He hits the toggle switch to turn the primary system off and hits another switch to turn the secondary system on. Once again g-forces push him back. He passes Skipper and is on the move...back into third place. A quick glance in the mirror shows Emma Tisdale closing in on Skipper. The front wheel of her dirt bike has been off the ground the last several miles. But she is starting to run low on nitrous oxide.

  27. I've started to celebrate DOHD ( DUKES OF HAZZARD DAY) a little early. I'm free, tomorrow, wife is off and I just went through an endoscope on my stomach ( I guess it went ok) and I have an appt. later this month and then another operation to fix a hernia that was supposedly fixed last year! ( NEVER!!! NEVER go to Dr. Scott Copeland, Cookeville Tn.) He is a Quack......unless you like being operated on every 6 months! But anyway, I've got most of it behind me.....I think! But......IT IS.......DOHD!! HAPPY EARLY DOHD!!!

    The Love Bug (1969)

I have them all on DVD, including the one with Lindsay Lohan. I only got to see one at the cinema, which I'm guessing was either 'Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo' (1977) or 'Herbie Goes Bananas' (1980). I also have a 1:18 model of Herbie.

Currently been battling a sinus infection and it migrated to my chest. Been battling it for 3 weeks now.. Wish it would just take a hike. On a positive note, I did wake up this morning feeling better but still stuffy in my nose and a bad cough. Nothing worse than a summer illness y’all

The races are so long and there is always so much to do I usually only watch highlights. Depending on what I am doing I usually keep an eye on sporting events on TV and just watch the end of them live. Except for pro dirt bikes. Can't get enough of those. I'd love to see Miz Tisdale race those guys. She'd make them look like snails with racing decals.

    Lalo Schifrin Dies at 93

You're half right. Lalo Schifrin composed the theme music for season 1 of Starsky and Hutch. The more familiar 'Gotcha' theme used for season 2 was written by Tom Scott. A reworked version was also used on season 4. The video below is a cool cover by British jazz funk group the James Taylor Quartet. The season 3 theme was written by Mark Snow. All three of these composers also scored several episode, as did Alan Silvestri who wrote a lot of the music for 'CHiPs' (and many movies including 'Back to the Future').

    Lalo Schifrin Dies at 93

I don't know Mannix at all. It looks like it was eventually shown in the UK in 1971, but I don't remember ever seeing it in the TV listings, and it's never had a region 2 DVD release. I mentioned 'Dirty Harry' above, but Lalo Schifrin also composed the score for another Clint Eastwood movie, 'Coogan's Bluff'. Anyone who's seen the movie will remember the club scene with Lalo's great parody of late-60's music - 'The Pigeon Toed Orange Peel'.

I'll write my F1 race report later when I have more time, but I just wanted to post a quick congratulations to ex-F1 driver Robert Kubica. He had what Rosco would call "a horrendous crash" at the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix (see video below), and nearly died when a barrier penetrated the cabin of his rally car in 2011. Yesterday, he won the Le Mans 24 Hours in a privately entered Ferrari 499P alongside co-drivers Yifei Ye and Phil Hanson. They were just over 14 seconds ahead of the second placed Porsche.
