HossC
We got our first snow of the year last night, and it started again this morning. It's that horrible wet snow that's leaving thick slush everywhere. We're due for freezing temperatures over the next few nights, so I'm expecting the roads to be very slippery. I briefly ventured into town after lunch and they were already quite bad. I don't think we got snow last year (at least none that settled) so we're not used to it here. All the shops were closing early tonight and people have been panic buying supplies for a few days. My friend's daughter's family are out in the country, and they're cut off for now. RogerDuke
Panic buying is going on down in Virginia right now where they are expecting a major winter storm. We have a lot of snow on the ground here on Lake Erie and no temps above freezing predicted for at least a week. Too bad you didn't get that snow for Christmas Hoss. I'm not saying we're nearly as badly affected as some US states, but we never seem to be prepared for it. Very few people would have winter tires as it happens so infrequently. I'm back to work tomorrow and even though I only have to drive across town, I'm not looking forward to the journey. Even the main roads weren't clear today. Hobie Hartkins
Hey, I was wondering...who was the aunt that Jesse wanted the boys to visit once when they got in trouble and Luke said " Heck, he hasn't even spoken to ..aunt........in 20 yrs" .? * I just thought....Aunt Lovinia?? RogerDuke
Kate I believe...definitely not Lovinia. Hobie Hartkins
HossC
It was Aunt Lavinia in 'Return of the Ridge Raiders'. Bo and Luke come under suspicion for the Ridge Raiders exploits. Jesse: "Boys, I'm gonna need some ... some breathing space for about three or four days. Now, I tell you what, why don't you go over and visit with Aunt Lavinia? You'll be safe there, and then ... then I'll catch up with you." [Sighs and hugs] Jesse: "See you later, Luke, Bo." Luke: "Be careful." [Jesse drives off] Luke: "Heck, he ain't even spoke to Aunt Lavinia in over 20 years." RogerDuke and Hobie Hartkins 1
RogerDuke
Thanks Hoss. I would have bet money on it not being Lavinia. Good thing I didn't. Hobie Hartkins
HossC
Daisy went off "to visit Aunt Kate for a couple of days" in 'To Catch a Duke', to help her "back on her feet from her miseries". It was the only episode that Cathy didn't appear in because she was filming 'Circus of the Stars'. Of course, Aunt Kate should not be confused with Aunt Katie in 'Duke of Duke' who preferred go by Katrina and not Katherine! HossC
Other than a few location shots for the Hollywood expeditions and location work at the Warner Ranch, Warner Bros. Studios was the only LA location used regularly for filming, and as far as I know that area north of the Hollywood Hills (home to many studios) is free from fire. All the movie ranches were around Santa Clarita or even further away. BTW. The Warner Ranch, home to the Bewitched house and Friends fountain was razed in 2023 to make way for offices - see here. HossC
When I wrote this yesterday, I hadn't read about the Hurst Fire near Sylmar which is just south of Santa Clarita. This is only a couple of miles from some of the filming locations, but I don't think any have been affected so far. As I write this, the Hurst Fire is 89% contained. Spike
With drought conditions like that there's no way you can prevent wildfires being driven by near hurricane force winds. Praying for all those affected. We had a drought here back in summer were we went almost a whole month without rain and the rain we did get during that period was barely enough to wet the dirt. Thank God we didn't have any fires then. The grass here was so dry it was like matchsticks on the ground. I didn't mow lawns for a month. More than made up for the rain deficit in December though, in fact set a new rainfall record for December. We're about to have 72+ hours of temps below 20 degrees starting Sunday, Tuesday night/Wednesday morning is supposed to be -15 for a low possibly setting a new record. Officials are warning people just because it will be that cold not to go ice fishing because the temperature swings we had, yesterday was 40, and will have will make the ice unsafe especially by next weekend when temps will be in the mid 30's again. Spike
And forgot to mention last week I sold a house I don't own . I got a message from the niece of this one lady I mowed a lawn for that passed away over the summer. They left a key with me in case of emergency since they all live a few hours away. The niece managed to sell some items and needed me to open the house so the buyers could get the items. The last couple that showed up also asked about the house that was next door because it had a for sale sign. I was honest and told them it needed a total gut renovation. Then I mentioned the house they were standing in was for sale also. Then I played realtor and took them on a tour of the house. They made an offer to the niece and the family accepted. That didn't sound too bad until I remembered that you lot in the US still insist on using Fahrenheit! We only got down to around -8°C (18°F) in our cold snap a week ago, although over in parts of Scotland it was -16°C (3°F). We're now back to a far more reasonable 10°C (50°F) during the day. Luckily, this SNL sketch explained America's way of doing things: 😀 Spike and RogerDuke 1
RogerDuke
Am I correct in assuming you guys do wind chill factors over there Hoss? If so, do they call it something different?
Hobie Hartkins
I've heard it called the " Winshield Fsctor"......That's how cold it would feel like being tied to a front windshield of a car doing 60 mph into a 30 degree wind in your underwear!
