HossC Posted August 9, 2017 Author Report Posted August 9, 2017 I can't let the passing of Glen Campbell go by without a mention. I've already posted "Galveston", so here's a later song: Sunflower - Glen Campbell R.I.P. Glen Travis Campbell (April 22, 1936 - August 8, 2017). Rollman 1 Quote
Rollman Posted August 11, 2017 Report Posted August 11, 2017 I am going to see this guy in Marion, Illinois this Friday night. Doug Supernaw---Reno Quote
Rollman Posted August 14, 2017 Report Posted August 14, 2017 Wheels--Tom Wopat!! The song was originally done by the country group Restless Heart, who took it to No. 1 in 1987. Skipper Duke 1 Quote
HossC Posted August 14, 2017 Author Report Posted August 14, 2017 "White lines and city limit signs" - can't help putting a different spin on that line after Tom's recent arrest! He should have listened to Grandmaster Flash's "White Lines (Don't Do It)". Anyway, back to the music. Here's an Irish band y'all may not have heard of. Celebrate - An Emotional Fish Rollman 1 Quote
Rollman Posted August 16, 2017 Report Posted August 16, 2017 I've always been a Kenny Rogers fan, and since he is on his farewell tour, here is a good one that you don't ever hear on the radio: Buckaroo Quote
Hobie Hartkins Posted August 16, 2017 Report Posted August 16, 2017 Ruby- Kenny Rogers! ( I used to sing that in a night club when I was 9-10 yrs. old! Rollman 1 Quote

HossC Posted September 1, 2017 Author Report Posted September 1, 2017 I see that Toni Basil's in the news because she's seeking damages for unauthorized use of her 1982 hit. Although we've had Weird Al's cover many pages back, I don't think we've seen Ms. Basil's version. Mickey - Toni Basil Notice that I didn't say "the original version", because that was released three years earlier by British group Racey (I prefer Toni Basil's version). Kitty - Racey Quote
HossC Posted September 7, 2017 Author Report Posted September 7, 2017 That's a new one to me, Hobie, but that's why I like this thread. Your song title reminded me of this artist. Runaway - Del Shannon Rollman and Hobie Hartkins 2 Quote
Rollman Posted September 8, 2017 Report Posted September 8, 2017 This is one of the few times where I like both the original and the cover version: Runaway - Gary Allan Quote

I think Henry was a friend of his and wrote it about his dog. As far as Del Shannon goes, you know he shot himself in the head while on the phone with Tom Petty? HossC Posted September 9, 2017 Author Report Posted September 9, 2017 I'm afraid that it's back to the obituaries today, and not just one. First, country legend Don Williams has passed away after a short illness. He was 78. Most of his well-known songs have more than one word in their titles, but I'm keeping with the theme of the thread. Miracles - Don Williams RIP. Donald Ray Williams (May 27, 1939 – September 8, 2017) The second death is that of Troy Gentry, half of Mongomery Gentry. He was killed in a helicopter crash in New Jersey, along with the pilot, although the circumstances haven't yet been made public. He was 50. The song I've picked has several references to muscle cars. Speed - Montgomery Gentry RIP. Troy Gentry (April 5, 1967 – September 8, 2017) Rollman 1 Quote
Rollman Posted September 9, 2017 Report Posted September 9, 2017 Yesterday was a bad day for country music. I was a big Don Williams fan, and I got to see him twice in concert. He seemed like a nice man and put on a good show. Here is one of my favorites of his Mistakes - Don Williams Quote
RogerDuke Posted September 10, 2017 Report Posted September 10, 2017 The deaths of these guys is very sad. I saw Montgomery Gentry in concert in Meadville Pennsylvania several years ago. I never saw Don Williams but I remember well when he his career was at its peak. His voice was certainly special. Quote
HossC Posted September 10, 2017 Author Report Posted September 10, 2017 Let's go for something a little more recent. I'm not sure if y'all have rag 'n' bone men in America. If you ever check out "Steptoe & Son", the British show which was turned into "Sanford and Son", they were rag 'n' bone men. Human - Rag'n'Bone Man Quote
Hobie Hartkins Posted September 11, 2017 Report Posted September 11, 2017 I couldn't get through it! You may go for it but..... Still, what are Rag and Bone men? Quote

HossC Posted August 17, 2018 Author Report Posted August 17, 2018 We've already had 'Respect', so I'm marking the passing of "The Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin with a clip from 'The Blues Brothers'. Aretha Franklin - Think Quote
HossC Posted September 22, 2018 Author Report Posted September 22, 2018 Today we lost half of a British musical institution - Chas Hodges of Chas & Dave. They're probably not well known in the US, but they had a very distinctive style that mixed humorous sing-a-long pub songs with great boogie-woogie piano. This first song is about a partner who talks too much (rabbit and pork is rhyming slang for talk): The title of the second track, Gertcha, is harder to explain, but the lyrics at the start give it a try: I'll finish with a song about a family outing to a southern British seaside resort. Note that Cockneys pronounce Margate to rhyme with target: Quote
HossC Posted March 30, 2019 Author Report Posted March 30, 2019 It's about time I posted something here that's not a tribute to someone who's died. I'm not sure how I missed this one as I really like it. Confusion - The Zutons Quote
