March 2Mar 2 Author While I'm on Irish artists, I couldn't ignore Thin Lizzy. This song was written by the band's frontman Phil Lynott and guitarist Gary Moore about Lynott's newborn daughter. Phil died when I was 15, but I did get to see Limehouse Lizzy, the best known Thin Lizzy tribute act, about 25 years ago. Thin Lizzy - Sarah

Celtic Woman aren't mentioned much back in Ireland, I guess because we have such a wide array of other great Celtic music to choose from. March 12Mar 12 Author Like The Blizzards (above), brothers Frank and Seán O'Meara are from Mullingar. They wrote this song based on the true story of Grace Gifford's marriage to Joseph Plunkett in Kilmainham Gaol. Plunkett was one of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising, and was executed by the British just hours after the wedding.
