  1. Heh! Maybe that's the "beyond" in the "beyond restoration" report I'd heard of, years ago.

I think the majority of any General's value is in its recognition, though. With the condition Lee 1 is in, only the astute and well-studied Dukes fan is going to make the connections. But how much would a "restored" Lee 1 be worth, in running condition? The grandaddy of 'em all?

It would be a monumental project, but then again, it's a monumental car.

I'd heard tell of the last General produced for WB, being worth an incredible amount of money. (six-digit range.) And I don't even think it was ever used in a show. On that basis, I'd have to venture that LEE 1, restored to glory, would be worth at least as much - or more. Which would make that ebay price tag look like nothing, if they could affordably accomplish the job.

The massive restoration effort would be a story in itself, too.

  2. It would be cool to see the car restored, but it's an interesting question whether it's worth more "as is", or returned to it's original glory.

Far as I recall - and I'm just repeating the lore as I'd heard it, back in the day - the purchasers of Lee 1 did not intend to restore it. I wonder if they will ever change their minds?

  3. Howdy Jessica! Welcome to HazzardNet.

If you want to put a picture under your name ( an avatar ) , you just need to insert the picture's URL link into your HazzardNet user profile.

Our friend Charger, here, has had good success in postin' pictures with his name, as you can see!

If you need any help, just holler. Enjoy the forums!

  4. Some great info came out of this topic, thanks Maxim. When you started this thread, I have to admit I didn't really consider the angle you presented it from - because I've seen a lot of "would be " Generals out there. It would not have surprised me in the least, had the car been some clunker from Minnesota or something. ( Not all General replicas are made with exactin' standards, to say the least.)

Sounds like you already had a pretty good idea as to the car's purpose, though. Good thing Scott was paying attention and knew the facts, because I was asleep at the wheel. Thanks again Scott!

  5. Dude, this is obviously a clunker that they probably picked up for a song in order to bash up for a stunt. And they coulda took the time to paint it authentically before using it in the movie - if, in fact, they used it at all.

Seriously, they could have used it to show just the underbody of the car in flight, during a jump. All depends on the purpose, camera angle, whatever.

Another possibility - it belonged to a fan who had it illegally parked, who wanted to get somebody to autograph the dashboard. Heh heh.

  6. Crowded as these things can get, I've never seen them reach a capacity where they stop selling tickets. It's $25 for tix for the whole weekend, which ain't bad.

I usually pack a cooler, and do these trips on a shoestring. Where I blow the money is on autographs n' gifts n' such. I can't seem to go to these things without gettin' stuff for my friends who couldn't make it.

Because I'm sucha sweet cuss. :D

  7. I get some dirt from industry speculators, and this rumor on Season 4 and the rest shouldn't be treated as anything more than that. Critics never dug the Dukes of Hazzard, and so there are some folk that doubt that the series is salable past the 4th season. But that's an opinion and not a fact. I personally think that as long as the DVD's keep selling, they'll keep releasing them.
