Boss' CELEBRITY Speed Trap I think she spells it Beulah going by the closed captions, but a great obscure name nonetheless.

Since 2012, Austin has hosted the US Grand Prix (with the exception of 2020 when there was no race due to Covid). This year they've added Miami to the calendar to make it the first time since the '80s that the US has hosted two grands prix. Next year you'll get a third race at Las Vegas.

The Formula 1 race this weekend is at a brand new track that winds around the Miami Dolphins' Hard Rock Stadium. With first practice just over, it looks like Mercedes will be closer to Ferrari and Red Bull after a poor start to the season. As far as I can see, the race will be at 3.30pm ET on Sunday, which means it's 8.30pm for me.

We understandably struggle with Qs, Xs and Zs, so it's OK to bend the rules on these letters. TriXie Hughie's genie from 'When You Wish Upon a Hogg'.

Roger, I found a couple of passing references to a Hazzard Homecoming event in Covington on May 7th & 8th, which would be this weekend, but I couldn't find a website or any definitive information. There's a separate event called Hazzard Fest taking place at Greene County Fairgrounds in Greeneville, TN on September 23rd and 24th (that's Friday & Saturday). Details of that can be found here. They're advertising Catherine Bach (Sept. 23rd & 24th), John Schneider (Sept. 24th - Concert), Tom Wopat (Sept. 23rd & 24th) and Rick Hurst (Sept. 23rd & 24th). There's also Angelo Lamonea (Sept. 23rd & 24th) who performed stunts on 'Dukes' and 'Enos'.

After about a 10 year hiatus from cinema going, I've seen two good but very different movies this year. 'Belfast' is based on real events that split streets and caused many to leave the city. 'The Phantom of the Open' is about an ordinary man who decided that he wanted to enter the British Open golf tournament. It's a comedy based on a true story. My brother recommended 'Operation Mincemeat', a WWII movie again based on a true story. I missed it when it was shown here.

Today is a bank holiday in Ireland, and I went to my first car show in a couple of years. I wasn't quite the turnout or era I was expecting, but there were some interesting cars there. There were also some stationary engines and a couple of working miniature traction engines. I'm sure that Roger would've enjoyed the vintage tractors. I know virtually nothing about them, but my friends spent a while looking over several of them and chatting with their owners. Yesterday I visited the Japanese Gardens & Irish National Stud. They're very near The Curragh, an area of common land known for its horse breeders. Despite the drizzle, the gardens were beautiful, with lots of unusual plants and stepping stones through a stream.

There a meme that's been going around for a while now that says: If you think you are smarter than the previous generation...50 years ago the owners' manual of a car showed you how to adjust the valves. Today it warns you not to drink the contents of the battery. I'm not sure if it's true, but it kinda sums up the situation. As Spike says, a lot seem to expect a certain level of pay even when they're just starting out. One of the younger guys where I work is constantly asking how much extra he'll get for anything slightly out of the ordinary and wants his gas paid for if he has to drive to a site. There's another meme that says: If we all switched to cursive handwriting and manual transmissions, we could cripple an entire generation of idiots. I've also seen it with analogue clocks added into the list. Having said that, less and less new cars are available with a manual transmission (they've always been way less popular in the US compared to Europe), so do this generation need to know how to drive them? Things move on. There are plenty of things that this generation do in which I have no interest, e.g. paying for something with my phone. Over 50+ years I've developed ways of doing things that I know work. There may be better ways of doing them, but the old phrase about not being able to teach an old dog new tricks rings true sometimes!

INDIAN Dunes (filming location) Can everyone please put the word they're playing in CAPITAL letters? It makes it a lot easier to see what letter we're up to.

Rev. J.P. FRAWLEY (of Hazzard County Gospel Church) Elmo, Hughie's driver in 'Uncle Boss', Elmo, Cooter's DMV friend from "Hotlanta" in 'Close Call for Daisy', or Elmo, the bad guy played by Dennis Haskins in 'Cale Yarborough Comes to Hazzard'?
-
Augie DETWEILLER Hobie, I changed your previous entry to capital letters just to make it clearer which word you were playing.

I watched it once, but it must've been over 40 years ago. The captain was played by Laurence Naismith in 'A Night to Remember'. Fifteen years before 'Titanic', Bernard Hill played a very different character called Yosser Hughes in a gritty British drama series called 'Boys From the Black Stuff'. It followed the lives of five unemployed men in Liverpool in 1982. Here's Hughes as Yosser with what became a catchphrase of the time (UK unemployment hit 3 million around this time). His character also had a violent side, frequently head-butting people with what became known as a 'Yosser Kiss'.

I can't remember the name of the show. It was a couple of years ago now.

I've seen a documentary on the theory that there was a fire in one of the bunkers, and it was a convincing argument, but many experts don't seem to think that there was any such fire.
