  1. Welcome to HazzardNet RiotKid. Roger's right - people should be here of their own free will. You can check-out any time you like, but you can never leave!. Ah, HazzardNet, such a lovely place :).

  2. Welcome to HNet. It's a shame you don't have the old battery - it would've made things easier. I'd agree with Brian's advice, but if you have no luck at the jewelry store I found this site that offers two Unisonic compatible batteries for $3.99 each, although there's no guarantee either would fit your fiancé's watch (the site is slow to load for me). It may seem like overkill but these watches seem to be freely available on Ebay for between $10 and $30 - most are $15-$20 and some even come with new batteries. Click here to see what's currently available (NB. this is a link to a search, not a specific item, so results will change).

In case it jogs anyone's memory for the battery type, I've included a picture of the watch below. It seems to have been available with two different fascias (see inset), but was otherwise the same product. If we could get a part # I'm sure it won't be too hard to find a battery.

  3. Looks to me like someone on the crew, or perhaps a few of them, couldn't spell. I've heard there is another misspelling to be found, I believe in one armed bandits.

The well known one in 'One Armed Bandits' is the banner at the end where they spell Rosco as "Roscoe":

    Roscoe1_0101.jpg

In the close-ups there is a balloon in the way so you can't see the mistake:

    Roscoe2_0101.jpg

You may be right about bad spellers on the crew. If you check out The Patrol Cars in Pictures thread you'll see that US Marshal was often spelled "US Marshall". Also, in the Bad Spell of Jesse! thread you'll see that Jesse's name was spelled "Jessie" at least twice.

  4. '69 charger? Hoss the soundstage Lee was actually a '68 charger. You can see the point in the middle of the dash in some shots, indicating that it's a '68.

I didn't know that the soundstage car was a '68 - be fair, there aren't a lot of '68 styling cues in the image I had to work with :).

Here's a couple from 'Daisy's Song'. In the first picture Bo is in the Road Runner while Luke is driving Ms. Mabel's RV. Two patrols are seen racing towards their location, yet when Bo crashes through this gate the patrol cars are visible in the background. One is moving slightly, the other is completely stationary. The front of the blue Chevy Chevette is just visible above the windshield of the Road Runner - it is also stationary. Immediately after this the patrol cars are hot on their heels.

    Stationary0102.jpg

Towards the end of the episode Ms. Mabel and her girls arrive in their RV to distract the music pirates. When the RV enters the field it has a large hand-made banner on the side.

    RVSign1_0102.jpg

When it comes to rest, and for the remainder of the scene, the banner has been changed. It still seems to have the same misspelled message ("WELCOME SINDICATE PIRATS TO HAZZARD COUNTY"), but the writing is different. In the version below the lettering is heavier and more rounded. It looks like this later scene was filmed with artificial lighting (see reflection to the right of the RV's door), and may even have been a different day.

  5. The movie that Waylon is referring to is "A Night to Remember" from 1934, starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. It's the famous "Walls of Jericho" scene where Gable's character, Peter, must stay the night in the same room as the woman, Ellen, who's traveling with him. He strings a clothesline across the room, hangs a blanket over it and tells her not to worry because, unlike Joshua, he doesn't have a trumpet. (Of course later he mentions he's working on bringing down the 'Walls of Jericho' after he falls in love with the girl, lol)

Excellent find, but the title of the movie is actually It Happened One Night ("A Night to Remember" was a 1958 movie about the Titanic disaster). The whole movie is on YouTube - the scene we're talking about starts at about 23:17.

  6. I'm watching 'Hazzard Connection' & I just noticed that just after Luke drove the slammer car off the back of the transporter (right near the end of the episode) that it shows a close up of Luke in The General then cuts back to the red slammer car.

    Cheers Brad

Well spotted Brad. The 'slammer' car is a red '61 Mercury:

    Slammer1_0208.jpg

The car Luke is driving in the close-ups is clearly an orange '69 Charger (sounds familiar :)):

  7. I've been watching 'The Masters' golf tournament for the last couple of days, so my mind was already on Georgia and unsurprisingly Dukes. Then tonight they've been showing a lot of Bubba Watson, so I went to Google to see what he's been up to since his recent purchase. I found the following video of Bubba showing NASCAR driver Carl Edwards around LEE 1 and even taking him for a spin:

I also found a slideshow of Bubba talking with golf commentator David Feherty that includes some pictures of LEE 1. There's meant to be a video of the interview that includes The General, but the website just gave an error when I clicked on the link. If it becomes available again I'll post a link.

  8. I was flicking through 'Coy vs. Vance' the other day when I remembered to do some screengrabs of the Baxley Sisters' van. Here's my version of the sign on the side. It looks like the motorbikes were done by the same person who did them on the Carnival of Thrills poster - they're similar, but not the same (that would make things too easy :)). The color choices seems a bit strange; blue and green used to be a frowned upon combination and the red and blue stripes are much darker than the red and blue in the logo.

  9. John is going to be turning 52 on Easter Day. I guess this means we won't be going to the Boar's Nest to celebrate this year since it will be closed.

He can always pop over to the Irish Boar's Nest. Pubs here are shut tomorrow (Good Friday), but it's the only day other than Christmas day that they shut. Most will open as usual on Sunday.

    Happy Birthday for Sunday, John.

  10. Take a look at Diane's butt, is it just me or is that a mic box clipped onto her jeans?

After watching the clip on YouTube I went back to my DVDs for a better quality look. The DVDs also help to give context in a longer version of the scene. Watch carefully just after Diane kisses Bo before the race - she reaches to her back pocket to pull the object out. She does this because the object is the gun used to start the race:

    Diane1_0301.jpg

The other reason I'm sure it's not a mic is that the boom mic they used is visible in the center at the bottom of the screen. You can see it moving from side to side depending on who's talking.

    Diane2_0301.jpg

If anyone else has a suspected blooper involving female guest stars butts, let me know ;).

  11. I thought I'd have a go at Cooter's van from 'Uncle Boss' (the one he uses to hide Hughie's VW). As far as I can tell it's a Flxible Southern body on an unknown chassis (see this post for more pictures). I started off with just the rear panel before convincing myself to do the whole side view. I may add front and back views at a later date. I wonder if they even painted the other side because it's never seen on screen. The eagle-eyed amongst you may spot that I've just modified the wheels from the tow truck - we don't get a particularly clear look at the wheels, so I figured these were close enough.

    CooterVan.jpg

I spotted this picture online during the week. It looks like Cooter's repair standards are really slipping - just look what he's done to Uncle Jesse's pickup :). Believe it or not I've discovered that this picture was taken on Burbank Blvd, only about one and a half miles from WB's studios.

  12. Google have announced plans to enter NASCAR with a driverless team that uses autonomous cars. You can read the details here.

(Just remember today's date before y'all get too excited ;))

  13. Here's another four cars to finish off season 4. The first, this black and white 1977 Dodge Monaco, appears in 'New Deputy in Town'. It has the squarer style lightbar, but otherwise the exterior looks pretty stock. The badge on the door says 'Police Department City of Roseville'. The exterior may be stock, but Bo, Luke and Cooter want to discover what's under the hood.

    1977RosevilleMonaco0421.jpg

The end of 'New Deputy in Town' sees a brief appearance of the US Marshal in a 1977 Chevy Nova. Since 'Trouble at Cooter's' it looks like the costume department has learnt to spell, but not the sign-writers (see insets). This is now the third US Marshal car to appear, and they've all had completely different liveries.

    1977MarshalNova0421.jpg

Riverton County's entry in the 'Miss Tri-Counties' race is this 1977 Plymouth Fury. It looks like a Hazzard patrol car with a race number on the hood and the lightbar removed. The inset shows a close-up of the Riverton Sheriff badge from the door, which is very similar to the Hazzard one. If y'all watch the race carefully you'll see that the car that leaves the road is actually a Dodge Monaco (split grille visible) and the '34' on the hood is bolder.

    1977RivertonFury0424.jpg

The story of 'Dukes in Danger' revolves around a pair of escaped convicts. This is the car that was carrying them just before the crash that allowed their escape. It's a plain gray 1975 Ford LTD station wagon with 'State Penitentiary' written on the door in simple black text. For those of you that remember the episode, Rosco is actually driving backwards in this picture in an attempt to catch Bo and Luke (he ends up in a tree and has to be pulled out by General Lee!).

  14. Thats cool....I wonder what she looks like now.

Here's three pictures of Robin Mattson. I posted the first one in 'The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread' last year for people to guess who it was. It's from her first movie, 'Namu, the Killer Whale' in 1966. The middle picture is from 'Carnival of Thrills'. I'm not sure exactly when the last one is from, but it's much more recent.

  15. From the picture on the box, I think I can barely see the bars of the Confederate flag. I see the General Lee on top of the door.

Personally I think they photographed it so the flag wasn't shown or just very, very faintly indicated. Probably for "politically correct" purposes. Why would the flag not be included in the model since it is such an integral part of the General Lee? It SHOULD be in there.

I hadn't noticed the flag. After a bit internet searching I found that the 1/16 model seems to have two different box designs. I'm guessing that the one on the left is the original and the one on the right is the more politically correct current version. They even used a different shot of Bo and Luke to avaoid showing the flag:

    GLModel1.jpg

As Capt. suspected, it looks like the model has just been photographed so that the flag isn't shown. As you can see from this 1/25 model, the flag is definitely part of the decals:

  16. Dang you guys and your good memories. I must be getting old because ... what was I saying?.

CD is right, the line is spoken by Jesse in 'Daisy's Song'. He says to Daisy, "I was just telling the boys you've got to make sure that everybody is out of that pressing plant before they blow it up.", followed by the lne below:

    PropertyQuote0102.jpg

  17. Well remembered MaryAnne. Like most of these questions, I can remember the quote, but not the episode.

I've just checked the DVD and in the scene where they're welding the spikes it's actually Waylon that says the line, not Jesse, although that doesn't mean Jesse didn't say it at another time:

    PropertyQuote0104.jpg

The end of the line is, "which sometimes calls for a little country ingenuity".

  18. I was going to reply to this thread earlier, but being an outsider thought it best to let someone more informed than me have first crack.

Dukes is from a different place in time to where we are now. Not everything that was OK in the late '70s and early '80s is OK now. There are several bits of dialog and narration that would now be considered sexist. Good ol' Hobie, the happy drunk driver, would probably be frowned upon as well. What I don't remember is any racism. As MaryAnne said, although the main cast was white, any black characters were treated the same as their white counterparts: the good black guys had equal status to the white good guys and the black bad guys had equal status to the white bad guys. As well as the black characters they also had Billy Joe Fong in 'Miz Tisdale on the Lam' and, at the height of the Cold War, a nice Russian in 'Comrade Duke'.

Anyone who's read 'Redneck Boy in the Promised Land' will know that Ben Jones went on civil rights marches in the '60s because he believed in an integrated America, and especially an integrated South. This is a man who quit the show for several episodes in an argument over whether Cooter should have a beard; does anyone think he'd have stuck around long on a racist show?.

The problem with flags is they get misappropriated. As MaryAnne pointed out, the KKK used the Stars and Stripes and the Confederate flag whilst spreading their message of hatred. You can even find lots of Christian symbols associated with them, yet no one is trying to ban the Stars and Stripes or Christians due to this association. The UK had a similar problem. Around the time of Dukes there was a far right racist group called the National Front (NF). A splinter group of the NF, the British National Party (BNP), is now the most popular of these organizations. Both have used the Union Jack and St. George's Cross (English flag) in their propaganda. I worked in London during one of the European soccer tournaments and wanted to put an English flag in the window while the competition was on. My (American) boss objected on the grounds that she considered it racist. After a heated argument she conceded that it was the flag of the country, showing support for our soccer team, and not a flag of the far right. If you don't fight these small battles, the racist will win.

On a lighter note, as an Englishman in Ireland I have taken some light-hearted comments about my nationality, and been blamed for burning down the churches. I swear, it wasn't me. There are genuinely a couple of pubs that I've been advised not to go in with my accent, but most people are open-minded enough to realize that the past is not the fault of the people alive today.

Now MaryAnne, you can have your soapbox back.
