Karis is the biological daughter of John Schneider and Elly Castle (Elly already had three children when they got together). She was in John's movie 'Collier & Co.'. She'll be in her late-20s now.

In F1, it was the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend. I'll start writing reports again when someone other than Max Verstappen wins a race! The next one is in Miami in two weeks' time.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I was watching 'The Naked Gun" last night as a sort of tribute to OJ Simpson when I spotted a familiar face. When Frank Drebin goes to visit Nordberg in hospital, the nurse at reception is played by Doris Hess. Doris played Emery Potter's long-time girlfriend/wife Mabel Wooster in "People's Choice".

It depends which episode you're watching. It was "Mount Paran Road" in 'Gold Fever' and "Mount Paron Road" in 'New Deputy in Town'.

I think you'll find that it's xenophobic, Hobie. ZERO for spelling!

I didn't bother writing a report for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix two weeks ago because although there were a few good fights down the field, it finished as another Red Bull 1-2. I will give a special mention to Oliver Bearman who was a last minute stand-in for Ferrari and finished seventh in his first ever grand prix at just 18 years old.
Today's race was the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. Max Verstappen claimed another pole, but was overtaken Ferrari's Carlos Sainz on the second lap. Max suffered a rare technical failure two laps later and had to retire his Red Bull when one of his rear brakes caught fire. Lewis Hamilton also retired at nearly one third distance when his Mercedes engine failed. His team mate George Russell crashed on the last lap leaving Mercedes pointless in Australia. Carlos Sainz went on to win the race with his team mate Charles Leclerc in second, followed by the McLarens of Lando Norris and local hero Oscar Piastri in third and fourth. Sergio Perez could only manage fifth in the second Red Bull. Carlos Sainz's victory was even more impressive because he missed the last race with appendicitis. -
According to my list, the Celebrity Speed Trap victims were:
- The Oak Ridge Boys who sang "Old Time Lovin'" in 'Granny Annie'
- Tammy Wynette who sang "Rocky Top" in 'The Hazzardville Horror'
- Hoyt Axton who sang "Speed-Trap" in 'Good Neighbors, Duke'
- The Oak Ridge Boys who sang "Leaving Louisiana in the Broad Daylight" in 'State of the County'
- Dottie West who sang "Even if you Were Jesse James" in 'By-Line, Daisy Duke'
- Freddy Fender who sang "Jambalaya" in 'Bye, Bye Boss'
- Roy Orbison who sang "Pretty Woman" in 'The Great Hazzard Hijack'
- Donna Fargo who sang "Lonestar Cowboy" in 'Double Dukes'
- Johnny Paycheck who sang "Take This Job and Shove It" in 'The Fugitive'
- Buck Owens who sang "I've Got a Tiger by the Tail" in 'Hughie Hogg Strikes Again'
- Mickey Gilley who sang "Don't The Girls Get Prettier At Closing Time" in 'The Sound of Music - Hazzard Style'
- Mel Tillis who sang "Stay A Little Longer" in 'The Hazzardgate Tape'
NB. Although the format was used in season 2, it wasn't until Dottie West was caught in season 3 that the 'Celebrity Speed Trap' name was used.

Hey Hoss, do you folks have Roku?
Apparently we do, although I don't have anything but the free TV channels and an extensive DVD collection.

Can I point out that this is the Hazzard Square thread which lists filming locations. I don't know why it's being used to discuss other issues when there are places for that elsewhere on HNet.

Drift Away is my favorite one.
I wasn't familiar with 'Drift Away', but found that I had it on a compilation album. It's very different to 'The "In" Crowd', but I liked it. Here's Waylon's version:

I'm reclaiming the old British favourite 'Gordon Bennett' too. Look it up and spread the word
There's been a Gordon Bennett race here in Ireland since 1903 - see here. There's a memorial to the race by the R418 a few miles north-east of Athy in Co. Kildare. I drove past it two weeks ago, but I've never stopped to look at it. You can read more here.

This is the only Dobie Gray song I know. I like it, but can't call myself a fan if I don't know any others.

I'd never even heard that anyone thought picnic was a racist word. It appears that Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Robert McKinzie made the claim in 2019 before it was subsequently debunked by professors of language and African-American history. Yet another case of someone jumping to conclusions without all the facts. At least Cadbury's won't have have to change the name of their chocolate bar on the this side of the Atlantic!

Once the 2nd car catches the lead car and is stuck in its wake there's no passing the lead car.
That's pretty much why they introduced the DRS (Drag Reduction System) in F1. The aerodynamics of the modern cars leaves a hole in the air making it difficult to follow closely. Now, at certain places on each circuit (between 1 and 3 locations depending on the track), if a driver can get within a second of the car in front of them at the detection spot they can open a flap on the rear wing, which gives them a few km/h extra. However, on some tracks a DRS train forms behind a slightly slower car, and as everyone is within a second of the car in front of them, they all get DRS!

The first race of the F1 season took place yesterday in Bahrain, and it was pretty much a continuation of last year. Max Verstappen took pole and went on to win the race with his Red Bull team mate in second (albeit 22 seconds back). Behind them, the Ferraris, McLarens and Mercedes were all pretty close, although Mercedes had a battery issue which meant they couldn't show their full potential. Only a week to go until the next race in Saudi Arabia.

I've never noticed either. I checked my DVD and the image isn't much clearer. My guess would be a member of the public keeping off the road as the cars go by, but it could've been a crew member keeping an eye on filming. It wouldn't be the only time that a crew member or equipment was visible in the show!

The Hazzard Square thread that I started lists most of the California locations. Back then, there were several guides to the Georgia locations already online. I'm not sure how many of them are still available.
