  1. You have a lot of work ahead of you, but you're making amazing progress already. They did something similar on the first season of 'Street Customs' ('Custom My Ride' in the UK) when they fitted a '68 Charger body to a new Charger chassis for actor Gary Dourdan (see below). It was a nice idea, but I can't say I share his taste in cars. If it were mine I'd change the wheels and the color. It also had the interior from the new car which just looked wrong. It looks like you're going down the path I'd choose if I had the money and skill to attempt a project like this. That 2008 floorpan looks a bit more solid than the 1969 one :). Keep up the good work.

  2. Don't know what was up with nascar.com tonight. I went off during the final rain caution and checked to see if I'd missed anything when I returned. The mini lap-by-lap ticker on the leaderboard page said that the checkered flag had come down at lap 200, shortly after Danica Patrick hit the wall. Was this accidentally copied from a Nationwide race or something?. The leaderboard also had Carl Edwards a point behind at the end instead of level.

I'm sure it wasn't the result everyone wanted (although I think TRPColtrane will be happy), but I enjoyed the closing laps.

  3. You didn't click on that link, didja? You shouldn't have. What were you thinkin'?

I had to Brian, and I have to say, I'm disappointed. Where's the funny wordplay title that used to go along with these parodies (e.g. Forrest Hump, Everybody Does Raymond, The Pourne Identity, Missionary Impossible, American Booty etc.). Surely they could've thought of another five-letter word beginning with 'D' and ending with 'S' to substitute in the title instead of just adding "a hardcore parody". On the positive side, the casting doesn't look any worse than the 2005 movie :).

BOTD? Babe Of The Day? LOL.

When are we starting this new thread Mufn?.

  4. Ah! I'm not the ONLY person who saw that movie! LOL. The battle of the bands at the end was one of the best parts of the whole thing.

Saw it at the cinema with a friend of mine who's also a big fan of the original movie. It's not a great movie, but worth seeing for the musician cameos (someone needs to give Eric Clapton some acting lessons - just in case the music thing doesn't work out :)), and the obligatory multi-vehicle pile-up (skip to 2:40 for the Blues Brothers 2000 crashes) that made the 2000 Guinness Book of World Records for having the most car crashes in a motion picture. What else can I say except "They broke my watch" ;).

  5. Hoss, these new folks don't know you that well.....

    "genius" doesn't descibe you....

    you're much smarter than that.....

in fact you're so smart they should invent a new word that describes someone smarter than a genius....

since you're so smart we'll let you invent the word.

At least everyone spelt it correctly, unlike this recent post on FailBook (that's not our Brian is it?):

    funny-facebook-fails-genius-he-is.jpg

If I visit the US, should I borrow the line supposedly said by Oscar Wilde at Customs Control in New York in 1882?:

"I have nothing to declare but my genius." :)

Joking aside, thanks for the comments.

speaking of Hazzard buildings...i know there is a thread or two about the original Duke farm in GA. But, has anyone counted or have a guess to how many different farms they used in the series? I know there is an "exterior" set they used on a few epsiodes, but it seems to me that as the series went on -- I'm currently watching the show on CMT -- the true exterior of the Duke's farm changed almost every season. The farm in the last season (porch and exterior) looks like the Duke's got a capital improvement loan from JD to spruce the place up!!

You've probably read the thread about the demolition of the original Duke Farm in GA earlier this year (I know Roger bought a few pieces). For the California shows there were at least three or four different locations used as they moved between ranches. The Boar's Nest also moved around a similar amount.

  6. In case you're having trouble naming some of the musicians in the video:

The Louisiana Gator Boys was an all-star band for the battle of the bands scene of the Blues Brothers 2000 movie.

    The members are:

B.B. King (Vocals, Guitar), Eric Clapton (Vocals, Guitar), Bo Diddley (Vocals, Guitar), Travis Tritt (Vocals, Guitar), Jimmie Vaughan (Vocals, Guitar), Gary U.S. Bonds (Vocals), Isaac Hayes (Vocals), Tommy McDonnell (Vocals), Lou Rawls (Vocals), Koko Taylor (Vocals), Clarence Clemons (Vocals, Tenor Saxophone, Tambourine), Dr. John (Vocals, Piano), Charlie Musselwhite (Vocals, Harmonica), Billy Preston (Vocals, Synthesizer), Steve Winwood (Vocals, Organ), Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (Guitar), Jack DeJohnette (Drums), John Faddis (Trumpet), Joshua Redman (Tenor Saxophone), Grover Washington Jr. (Baritone Saxophone), Willie Weeks (Bass).

  7. Just to follow up my comment about the license plate typefaces, here's a picture of a couple of the plates from the show. The first is from inside Cooter's door. I've placed it next to a genuine Louisiana 'Pelican' plate. The '5' is obviously different, and the '6' and '9' are slightly different as well. Additionally, the word 'Louisiana' slopes slightly upwards and the holes are in different places.

The Georgia plates (above and below) also seems to have been made for the show. The nearest real plate I can find is one from 1969, but that has '19' and '69' at either end of 'Peach State'. The real text is white not gold, and again the typeface differs slightly from the genuine plate (the plate below is from the wall of the Boar's Nest, but is the same as the one outside Cooter's apart from the number).

Old license plates are freely available at fairly cheap prices, so is there a legal reason why they created prop plates, or is this just the normal way they do it for TV shows/movies?.

  8. It's just a little creepy when I start quoting myself and replying, ain't it?

In talking about the WB studio lots, I noticed that the upcoming Muppet Movie used it for a scene. You guys have sharp eyes, see if I'm right. It's around 2:02 in this

    .

Let me quote you instead :). Great spot Brian, that is definitely Hazzard Square (Midwest Street). It only appears for a second or two so I've merged two grabs together to show the full width. You have the bank on the left through to the theater on the right:

  9. Also from the '80s is this solo single from The Damned's guitarist/bassist.

Here's TG Sheppard from 1985 with
    .

This video is by the same uploader as lost_sheep's recent Tom Wopat post - I remembered Rocky the Flying Squirrel peeping out from behind the album cover :). I don't think I've ever heard the song before, but the intro (from about 0:11 onwards) reminded me of a Richard Cheese cover which I won't be posting due to the explicit lyrics. It's a shame because it's a fun song that could have gone in this thread.

  10. I'm basing these observations on the different versions of the credits that are on YouTube - I haven't verified that they are correctly credited to the right season as they don't all list the episode they're from (although some have end credits, so you can work it out). If someone wants to go through the DVDs, feel free :).

I'm sure Brian is probably correct about royalties being paid for Bo's girlfriend (Jill Rae Dodson played by Tisch Raye). All the other people who appear in the credits are cast regulars.

Ignoring the changes that had to be made during the Coy and Vance era, there were still quite a few minor changes to the credits throughout the run. Waylon's hands/guitar aren't used for the first few episodes, there's someone else playing. Season 1 starts with the jump from 'One Armed Bandits' (Elm Street, Covington), but this get replaced in season 2 with a later jump. The first two seasons have Bo and Luke shooting out the tires from 'Repo Men', but from season 3 they use the same arrow firing shot followed but the outhouse exploding. Also from season 3 onwards the Styx river jump appears before the arrow sequence. Bo's girlfriend seems to make it through to season 3, but has gone by season 4. There's also a couple of shots that only appear after the first episodes; one of Rosco putting up a poster, and one of Boss pulling away in his Caddy. Ben and Sonny didn't appear in the original opening credits, so I'm assuming these shots were lost to make room. Thankfully they kept the shot of Daisy in her red bikini for all seven seasons ;).

Here's the videos I looked at - maybe y'all can spot some more differences:

  11. Well, it's been a while since I've added to this thread. When Mark B. joined HazzardNet recently and started posting pictures of his 1:25 scale model of Cooter's we started discussing details of the building. I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to draw it. It was great to have someone to bounce ideas off, and I'd especially like to thank Mark for clarifying the detailing of the ironwork on top of Cooter's. Just like when I did Hazzard Theatre, I got carried away and ending up doing Rhuebottom's and O'Connor Paint Supply as well.

The appearance is mainly modeled on the way the buildings looked in season 1 when they were quite clean, but other details have been added from later seasons where I liked them better eg. twin gas pumps, the green soda box and the roofed section between Cooter's and Rhuebottom's. The tree is not designed by me - it's a piece of clipart that I modified to suit. In later seasons the 'Hazzard Garage' and 'Office' signs were moved lower and the license plates moved to beside the office door. Rhuebottom's became tatty quite early on, the main sign changed in later seasons, and the awnings on both Rhuebottom's and O'Connor's changed as well. I didn't bother modeling Carol's Jewelry (including the bushes) because it only appears in one episode. I didn't have any screengrabs that show the height of the pole supporting O'Connor's, so I guessed (I'm sure the whole thing is visible at some point). I've spelt Rhuebottom's two different ways because that's the way it appears in the show!. There are some screengrabs of this era in the Hazzard Square thread.

Here's a couple of enlarged views:

    Rhuebottoms_Final.jpg

Finally, here's a close-up to show some of the detail. The '5' on the Maryland license plate matches one of the other plates inside Cooter's door, but doesn't seem to match the typeface of any real plates. I'm guessing these were props made for the show.

  12. I like a lot of the less mainstream country - Jason Boland & The Stragglers, Stoney LaRue, Aaron Watson, Roger Creager, Pat Green, The Randy Rogers Band, Casey Donahew and one of the best "outlaws" Jackson Taylor & The Sinners.

Thanks Capt. - I haven't come across any of these artists; they just don't play this stuff over here. I enjoyed the track you posted, so I'll check out some of the others now. Warning: that track does contain some bad language - doesn't bother me, but if it's not your thing, you've been warned.
