  1. I was going to post a question earlier tonight, and it was going to be "What's the next question, Roger?". Unfortunately, I'm not 100% sure of the answer, so I won't be posting it now ;).

As Roger said, most of the last questions have been posted by himself or myself (with a few by Brian). If you have a challenge, feel free to post your question. Just don't leave us hanging too long for the correct answer :).

  2. Well spotted Roger. I'd read the story of the pardons on the BBC, but they didn't make any Boss Hogg references. I try to avoid CNN in case I see Piers Morgan - it was nice of you guys to take him, but don't transmit him back here :).

I watched a video I found about Barbour, and thought I was going to be disappointed about a Dukes reference until this caption came up near the end (it's a shame that CNN can't spell, although I'd expect such inaccuracies from Fox ;)):

  3. Hoss...now see if you post a screen cap John Schneider. That woulld complete the Dukes cast in SATB...

There's actually a couple on the first page of this thread, but I uploaded them as attachments before I set up a Photobucket account. You don't get a close-up; from what I can find, he's supposed to be the guy with the hat (second from the right). So that non-members can see the picture, here it is:

  4. I read about Sonny, but where was Ben?

Ben is right near the beginning (just over four minutes in). When Big and Little Enos arrive at the Truck Roadeo they ask him where they can find Bandit (Little Enos even calls him Hoss :)). He wasn't credited in the movie, and IMDb just calls him 'Trucker with the redhead'.

    SATB_Ben.jpg

Sonny's performance is also uncredited. IMDb refer to him simply as 'Motorcycle Cop'. As Snowman would say, "That's Mr. Evel Knievel. He snuck in my back door when I wasn't lookin'."

  5. Seeing as the 'Boyish' theme didn't work out, I'll continue with another legend :).

This song may be familiar from its appearance in The Blues Brothers, I think in the scene when they're heading to Bob's Country Bunker (where they have both kinds of music!). Sadly, this song and John Lee Hooker's other track from the movie ('Boom, Boom') failed to make it on to the soundtrack CD. Luckily I have them on other albums.

  6. A 1981 hit for the Scottish one-hit-wonder aka. Mary Sandeman. The video is from the UK music show Top of the Pops, and features their in-house dancers Legs & Co.

We did 'manly' songs a couple of months back - does anyone fancy carrying on the 'boyish' theme?.

  7. I noticed yesterday when new member napo (Ramiro) posted pictures in the Introduce Yourself thread that Argentina calls the series 'Los Duques de Hazzard', unlike in Spain where it's called 'Los Dukes de Hazzard' (see above). From what I can tell, some Spanish speaking countries such as Argentina and Peru use the former, while others like Spain and Mexico use the latter. Here's a clearer view of the cover:

I also found a picture of most of the season 1 episode summaries from the same source. Just for a bit of fun, here's what they look like in (Argentinian) Spanish:

  8. I don't know why the studio version of this is so well hidden on YouTube (I found it three pages down on a Google search!).

A couple of years back this song was used in

    - I've just watched it again, and it still doesn't make sense (but it does make me smile :)).
Don't Leave Me This Way - Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes

Although a huge hit for Thelma Houston in 1977, this is the original version done by the Blue Notes in 1973. Lead singer is Teddy Pendergrass.

The first version I knew was the 1986 hit for

(although I have the other two you mention).
  9. Congratulations CD, your Hazzard Sheriff's bike turned out really well (although the rack does make it look like a Garda (Irish police) bike from a distance ;)).

It's a shame that bikes have such a small area for decals. I thought I'd modify my General Lee bike picture to check the options, and ended up cheating to have a reasonable-sized shield (see below). With the absence of a lightbar I was planning a saddle that's blue one side and red the other. What do you think if the Mopar police style wheels?. PS. You were right about my main reference being the DK General Lee bike.

  10. Great info, Hoss! I don't know how you figure this stuff out, it never fails to impress me!

It's a mixture of watching episodes, searching the internet for information, and looking over maps (both current and historic). I'd like to give a special mention to one of the sources: HazzardNet member Wekke. I had planned to link to his website and the thread about his visit to some of the locations over on cglfc.com, but in the last couple of months his website has disappeared and just in the last couple of weeks the pictures on cglfc have also gone (the thread is still there, but not much use without pictures). The location of the intersection of East Potrero Road/Highway 23 (above) and that of the first picture below are thanks to Wekke. With Wekke's pictures apparently unavailable, I may add some pictures of West Potrero Road soon.

Still on Highway 23, and about 1/4 of a mile south of Lake Eleanor is this section of road with the distinctive rocky outcrop in the background. It's used in several episodes - this is from 'Uncle Boss'. Click here for a Google Maps Street View.

    Rock0307.jpg

Slightly further south is the intersection of Decker Canyon Road and East Carlisle Road. I thought I had a grab from a different angle, but this one from 'Duke of Duke' will do. It's where Bo and Luke first encounter Gaylord Duke in his XK-E. If you click here and you can see the hills in the background (although the foreground has changed a far bit).

    DeckerCanyon0213.jpg

Here's the same intersection as seen from East Carlisle Road. This picture is from the start of Cletus's skateboard stunt from 'The Late J.D. Hogg' (see above for how it ended). I'm guessing they had to use two locations because there's no water here and no hill near the fire station. In this shot there's not a house in sight. If you clicked on the previous link you can spin around and see the entrance to Sycamore Canyon Drive and Denver Springs Drive on top of the hill, both of which have been built since Dukes was filmed.

    ECarlisle1_0306.jpg

This is the view up East Carlisle Road from the car that Cletus nearly hits (the one in the previous picture). The house on the hill is still there, but the trees around it have grown and it now has neighbors.

  11. I've mentioned this song in the What songs remind you of Hazzard? thread, but couldn't find a video of my favorite version before.

The L&N Don't Stop Here Anymore - Michelle Shocked

How could I resist a song with the line "I was born and raised at the mouth of the Hazard Holler"?. The song was written by Jean Richie about the coalmines and railroad around Hazard in Kentucky, but whoever made the video spelt it as "Hazzard" in the lyrics. The song has been covered many times over the years, including

  12. Sorry K-Duke, but I thought I'd share an example of how early a reference to Dukes appeared in another show. The fact that it's mentioned in the popular British sitcom 'Only Fools and Horses' shows how quickly Dukes was adopted into popular British culture. It was back in 1983, the year that saw the release of 'Return of the Jedi', and the episode was called 'May The Force Be With You'. Although the title may be a Star Wars reference, the force in question is actually the Police Force, this time in the shape of Oscar-winning actor Jim Broadbent as Detective Slater.

For those of you not familiar with the show (was it shown in the US?), the main characters make their money mainly by buying and selling goods that are either defective or stolen. In this episode they acquire a stolen microwave oven back when they were a relatively new commodity. So the question is, what would you do with a new microwave oven?.

Edit: The video I originally posted has disappeared from YouTube, so here's the dialogue from the scene:

Grandad is fiddling with the stolen microwave:

    Del: What are you doing?
Grandad: I'm trying to get 'The Dukes of Hazzard!'
Del: The 'Dukes of Hazzard!' This is a microwave oven you dozy old twonk! Gordon Bennett, you'll be putting frozen pizzas into the portable next!

    SPOILER

Del, Rodney and Grandad are all arrested, and give widely differing descriptions of the thief. Detective Slater threatens unpleasant consequences for Rodney and Grandad if Del doesn't name the robber.

If you want to find out who stole the microwave, and see Jim Broadbent, click here.

  13. Looking back now,the only reoccurring characters that spring to mind (besides Miz Tisdale) are the Beaudries and Emery Potter.

So my question to you is this.

Who would you like to have seen return to Hazzard for another episode?

I think you'd have to call Hughie Hogg a recurring character - he didn't appear enough to be called a regular.

A return of Amy Creevy would've been good because I'd like to see the look on Bo's face when Frankie turned up.

I'd also have been happy to see Mason Dixon's girls return - do I need to give a reason ;).

  14. One last picture of the fire station. This one is taken from 'The Late J.D. Hogg', and shows the fire station dressed as garage (competition for Cooter maybe?). It's the end of the scene where Cletus steps on a wheeled board and skates down the hill, ending up in the water just to the right of this pictute. The start of that stunt is filmed in an entirely different location, which I'll cover soon.

    FireStation0306.jpg

The previous post mentioned the new, western end of East Potrero Road. At the eastern end is the intersection (below) where it joins South Westlake Boulevard/Decker Canyon Road (Highway 23). This road featured in several episodes (this picture is from 'Uncle Boss'). Looking at the aerial maps from 1980, this area has changed very little. There's actually a large number of houses behind the camera - see for yourself here.

    SouthWestlake0307.jpg

This picture is taken on East Potrero Road, just to the right of the previous one. I can't remember which episode this is grabbed from, but I think it was near the start of season 2. Again the road is still quite recognizable - the trees have grown a bit, but the overhead wires are still the same.

    EPotreroRd.jpg

The last picture of this post is another from 'Uncle Boss'. It's taken just south of the previous two pictures on Decker Canyon Road. The fencing on the left surrounds Lake Eleanor, which can be seen as Hughie's VW drives by, seconds after this picture was taken. I could only get a really blurry grab, so didn't think it was worth posting. As far as I can tell, the camera must have been somewhere near here. If you click on the link and spin around to face the other way you'll see there's now a sign that says 'Speed Checked by Radar' - we all know it's just a hair dryer!.

  15. My last name is Udell pronounced just as its spelled... U dell, and I ain't got a clue where that came from.:cornfused:

After a quick Google I can tell you that you are named after the town of Yewdale in Lancashire (northern England). You can read the full history of your name here.

  16. It's been a while since I added to this thread. That doesn't mean that I've been resting on my proverbial laurels. The next few posts concern the area around Lake Sherwood that was used extensively in early seasons. In many cases they filmed on public roads rather than private ranches. I'll start with this building that's visible in several episodes (seen here in 'Arrest Jesse Duke' from season 2).

    FireStation0212.jpg

I thought I'd found the right building while looking around Lake Sherwood on Google Maps, but the road layout didn't seem to fit. After more research I found that the north-western corner of the lake had been re-designed in the early '80s, around the time that the lake was drained. The road layout was changed when East Potrero Road was cut through the hill on the north side of the lake. This confirmed that I had the right building, which turned out to be Engine 33 of the Ventura County Fire Department. On the map below you can see how the area looked in 1980 and how it looks now (the fire station is roughly in the center). Click here to see how the fire station itself looks today.

    FireStationMap.jpg

This picture is the view down Stafford Road, which used to start opposite the fire station.

    FireStation2_0212.jpg

This is the old West Potrero Road looking almost due west from the fire station. I'll return to East and West Potrero Roads in later posts.

  17. Artwork...Bike...General Lee...

    Please, Hoss...

I hope this is ok for you Alex. I decided to do a kids' bike - the chain was quite tricky to get right, even without the complexity of gears. I've put the Confederate flag on the saddle and given it 10-spoke wheels - I'll be expecting to see similar modifications to CDoherty's real General Lee bike ;).

  18. From what I can find online, Dukes started on TV in the UK in March '79 (about 2 months late!). Being as this is nearly 33 years ago, and I was eight at the time, my memory is a bit fuzzy. From what I recall, the first season was shown on a week night at about 9.30pm (it later moved to early evening on a Saturday). Due to my age, I wasn't allowed to see every episode, but my first memory was a chase around a junkyard which I'm guessing was 'One Armed Bandits' - so I've been watching since the start.
