  1. Now that I have an Econoline outline I've decided to add Rhuebottom's van. Despite Rhuebottom's store being a regular in Hazzard Square throughout most of the series, I think the van only showed up in 'Pin the Tail on the Dukes'. The rectangular headlights and covered gas cap mark this out as a later model than the Apex vans. There are a couple of screengrabs of the van in the bloopers thread.

  2. As soon as I read the title of Garrett's song I started humming this. It was then that I realized that my recent familiarity with the tune was due to its use on a commercial, although I had no idea what they were advertising until I looked it up (turns out it's a skin care product).

Good Morning Freedom - Blue Mink

Blue Mink may not be a familiar name, but they had some influential members. Vocalist Roger Cook co-wrote several hits including 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (in Perfect Harmony)', Madeline Bell sang backing vocals for Dusty Springfield and Donna Summer, and bassist Herbie Flowers was a well-known session musician who played on hits for Elton John, David Bowie, Lou Reed (including the prominent bass line of 'Walk on the Wild Side') and on Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of 'The War of the Worlds' among many others. Flowers also composed the hit 'Grandad' which I posted recently in One Word Song Titles as a tribute to Clive Dunn.

  3. Hoss, you amaze me that you noticed the judge. I wouldn't have caught that ...

When I saw Jason Bernard I knew he'd been in Dukes, but I had to look up the episode.

I'm afraid that neither of you got the 'Liar, Liar' question (BL, you should know better than to agree with Roger ;)). The answer is Christopher Mayer, who was listed as "Chip Mayer" in the credits (new question below):

    LiarLiar2.jpg

I'm going to be environmentally friendly now and recycle my last choices :).

I've found three episodes of 'Family Feud' that featured a Dukes team. Which one of the male Duke cousins appeared on the episode titled 'The Jeffersons vs. Dukes of Hazzard'?

    A) John Schneider (Bo Duke)

    B) Tom Wopat (Luke Duke)

    C) Byron Cherry (Coy Duke)

    D) Christopher Mayer (Vance Duke)

    E) Christopher Hensel (Jeb Stuart Duke)

    F) Randy Hamilton (Jud Kane)

Bonus points for naming the four other cast members that appeared on that episode.

  4. Sorry BL, but Roger and MaryAnne have this one. It also means that Roger has two grandchildren named after Dukes :). The name is only mentioned once, so you did well to remember. Here's the line (next question below):

I watched the 1997 Jim Carrey movie 'Liar Liar' over the weekend and spotted a couple of Dukes actors. The judge was played by Jason Bernard who was the studio guard in 'The Dukes in Hollywood' (sadly, it was his last acting role). The other Dukes actor played Jennifer Tilly's love interest, but which Duke family member was it?

    A) John Schneider (Bo Duke)

    B) Tom Wopat (Luke Duke)

    C) Byron Cherry (Coy Duke)

    D) Christopher Mayer (Vance Duke)

    E) Christopher Hensel (Jeb Stuart Duke)

    F) Randy Hamilton (Jud Kane)

Here's a picture of Jason Bernard in the movie to act as a reminder:

  5. I stumbled on this thread again earlier and tracked down a site where I could watch the episode online. As previous posters have said, Tom doesn't get a lot of screen time, but it was interesting to see him playing a slightly uncooperative sheriff from a neighboring county - how times change :). The IMDb page has now been updated to include Tom in the credits.

  6. A few weeks ago I got asked a question about the vans that appeared in Dukes. I think the only one I've done so far is Cooter's van from 'Uncle Boss'. To put that right, here's the 'Apex Rent-a-truck' Ford Econoline van from 'Coy Meets Girl'. It's listed as a 1975 on imcdb.org, although I'm not sure how you tell the 1975-78 models apart. The Apex vans appear to have nudge bars like wider versions of the one found on the General.

    ApexVan.jpg

They must have used at least three different trucks, and the decals were different on each one. Look at the grabs below and you'll see that there's no consistency about the location of side logos and "rent-a-truck" text, the side stripes change color or go missing, and the rear "rent-a-truck" text changes size! In my version (above) I decided to go with the most common appearance, which is the way I would've done the real vans.

  7. Well Roger, it's good news and bad news. You were right to say that Jeremiah was Denver's character in 'Go West Young Dukes', but I think you remembered Ezra from the last time I used these answers. Ezra was Granny Annie's husband. Why not have a second guess now that a third of the answers have been eliminated (that applies to you too, BL), and anyone else who wants a first guess ;).

  8. He is doing great now. :) in case you found more info on him than i did....where did you find your info?

I found a blog by the trainer. It's got pictures, videos, and some information. You can see it here.

I leave Irish out just cuz its to long to call him and i just like Eagle better.

I was only asking because the people where I live might not like you leaving the "Irish" out ;). People get quite creative with horse names; I think one of my favorites is "Hoof Hearted". If you don't get the joke,

a short piece of commentary that should make it clear.
  9. It sounds like you did well to get an ex-racehorse. I see he's had problems with his breathing and sore shins in the past - is he OK now?

His full name is Irish Eagle....I call him Eagle...but I might start calling him Red...it fits him.

Why are you leaving the "Irish" out? Calling him "Red" may not be a good idea as his old stablemate was "Spitfire Red" - you wouldn't want to confuse your new horse would you? ;)

  10. That was a great spot, Roger. There's only a couple of shots of the TV, and the dialog is in Spanish.

    Mexican1.jpg

The episode they're watching is 'Mary Kaye's Baby'. When Brad Pitt is in the foreground you can just see Bo and Luke finding the moonshine on the back seat. It was difficult to get a clear grab of that, but here's the same shots as above, taken from my DVD.

    Mexican2.jpg

There was almost another Dukes tie-in. The guy who goes to meet Brad picks up a rental car in the previous scene. He asks what sort of car he's getting, and is told it's a new Chrysler. He then asks the rental guy for an alternative. When he arrives we see he's been given an orange Dodge Charger, although it's a '71.

  11. That was obviously an easy one :) - points to BL and Roger. I have to confess that I didn't even know what a monkey paw was until I Googled things used for cheating to find some wrong answers. Apparently it's a device that you stick in old fruit machines to fool the coin counter.

In 'Treasure of Hazzard' we get a look at the old Duke family Bible that's "got all the birthings and dyings in it since Caleb Duke came west in the middle 1700s". It says that on September 9, 1762, a son was born to Martha Duke. What was his name?

    A) Joshua

    B) Samuel

    C) Ezra

    D) Isaiah

    E) Jeremiah

    F) Ezekiel

    G) Daniel

If the choices look familiar, it's because I copied them from a question I asked about Granny Annie's husband some time ago.

  12. Roger and MaryAnne got that right. I'll leave you to sort out how much manure you owe each other because I can't cover that sort of action :).

Sticking with the Sweetwater sheriff, what gambling/cheating equipment did he return to the bad guys when he left them at the county line? Pick as many as you think are correct!

    A) Loaded dice

    B) Monkey paw

    C) Pool cues

    D) Marked cards

    E) Fake ID

  13. ... and on probation through December 31st.

So just the next race then? I assume they're unlikely to violate their probation when they're not racing.

NASCAR has also fined Brad Keselowski $25,000 dollars and put on probation until the end of the year as well. He was fined for violating the rule that says no electronics in the car ...

That seems like an odd rule when these are called "stock cars". Think of all the electronic devices there are in your road car. Do today's stock cars share a single component with their road-going namesakes?

  14. This ain't no Don Williams song, but it has the same title, and came out seven years earlier.

I'd guess that the 1981 cover by Madness is better known in the UK - Labi Siffre even makes a cameo in

    .
  15. Let me know if you would rather me do it this way or keep it to my original top ten starting positions.

I like seeing the whole lineup, but because the forum ignores tabs, I find the inclusion of the car numbers makes it harder to read. See what you think of the list with and without the numbers:

    1. 18 Kyle Busch

    2 56 Martin Truex Jr.

    3 11 Denny Hamlin

    4 5 Kasey Kahne

    5 43 Aric Almirola

    6 78 Kurt Busch

    etc., etc.

    or

    1. Kyle Busch

    2. Martin Truex Jr.

    3. Denny Hamlin

    4. Kasey Kahne

    5. Aric Almirola

    6. Kurt Busch

    etc., etc.

  16. I know MaryAnne has posted a couple of Boz Scaggs tracks here, but this one was new to me when I heard it yesterday.

This was another track that appeared in the 'Cover to Cover' feature on a radio show I listen to. This is the cover version, and it was pitted against

. Two of the versions of 'Louie Louie' that I posted recently also featured on the same show. For a few more original/cover comparisons, check out the Tower of Song thread.
  17. Seeing as I heard a radio interview with band-member Graham Gouldman earlier today:

The Things We Do For Love - 10cc

Oh, I kinda like the idea of Diana Rigg playin' my part...

Trust you to find a picture of Diana Rigg alongside Robert Culp from an obscure ITV drama series from the 1970s.

Although she's probably best known as Emma Peel in 'The Avengers', to me she'll always be Tracy Di Vicenzo to George Lazenby's James Bond in 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'.

    james_bond_women_04.jpg

"She's having a rest. We'll be going on soon. There's no hurry, you see.

    ." Such a sad ending. :(
I only know one other song with a variation of "MaryAnne" for the title, and I would post the link but HNet is now allowing me to do so in this post for some reason. I mean, really c'mon HNet (C'mon, Marianne... LOL)

Were you trying to post the version by The Four Seasons, Grapefruit, or Donny Osmond? There's only another two that I can think of, and they're both a bit more downbeat:

    (Live)

So Long, Marianne - Leonard Cohen

I noticed that one person had commented on both videos. They commented "That awesome moment when my own name is Marianne......" to Tori Amos, and "That awkward moment when my own name is Marianne........" to Leonard Cohen - draw from that what you will :).

  18. Sorry BL, neither of your answers were right, and it's only half points for Roger. The actor's name is Boyd Bodwell, and he played a hijacked truck driver in 'Road Pirates'. He returned with a bigger part in season 3 where he played 'Benny the Quill' in 'Baa, Baa White Sheep'. Here's a couple of pictures from those episodes (new question below):

    BoydBodwell.jpg

In 'The Treasure of Soggy Marsh', Coy, Vance and Daisy set off for Chickasaw to collect some menus for Boss, unaware that they are being framed for theft. What does Boss tell Sheriff Little they stole?

    A) Jewelled tiara

    B) Antique pocket watch

    C) Sapphire necklace

    D) Diamond cuff links

    E) Solid silver bracelet
