I'm not sure what happened to Ricky today. For the first half of the race he was in the mid-teens, and even made up a few places before the second caution. Then, approaching halfway, he dropped down to about 21st just before a caution, and he was the second car a lap down. I guess I shouldn't be too unhappy with 17th, but he was two laps down.

Just Another Day In Ireland
HossC replied to CDoherty95's topic in Dukes of Hazzard General Discussion
You remembered far more details about the Jesse pickup/General Lee crash than I did . *Russell Solberg. I'm sure you remember the stuntman/stuntmen involved, but here's what I recall (if I'm not mixing up two stories). I seem to remember that they were filming another train jump, and the driver misjudged his speed and position on the ramp. The result was that the side-mounted camera (like the one visible in the Styx River jump) got knocked off, and the car jumped so far that none of the other cameras caught the landing. Was that when Tom told us about the camera mounts? None of the cameras were mounted on cars using bolts, they were attached using powerful suction cups (were they Tom's idea?). Anyway, during one of the stunts (it may have been the one above) a camera fell off. The strength of the suction cup system was being questioned when Tom retreived the camera and pointed out that the suction cups were still firmly attached to a chunk of Bondo which had been used in a previous repair. Needless to say, they checked the integrity of cars more carefully after that incident. -
Just Another Day In Ireland

Thanks for posting these, CD. I was there, and I had already forgotten the story about the cows and coyotes . You'll have to help my recollections of some of the other stories, CD. I do remember that they had two Rolls Royces for filming '10 Million Dollar Sheriff', and ended up having to buy both cars after the stunt crew damaged them practicing skids. Was it one of the early Cooter tow trucks that broke in half pulling a car out of a ditch? I think it might have been the blue and white Ford. -
They're playing at Wembley Stadium, which is normally used for soccer finals. It's only about 20 miles from where I grew up, but despite passing it on the train every time I went to London, I've never actually been to the stadium. Apparently, the match has been sold out for quite a while - Gene Simmons from Kiss was on TV this morning talking about it. Seeing as the match is being shown here live, I may watch some of it. There was talk of an NFL match being played in Ireland, but they lost out to London. Instead, Croke Park (the Gaelic sports stadium in Dublin) will host a college football match next year - more details here.

It's Friday again, so time for something funky! BBC FOUR are still working through the '70s epsiodes of their pop show 'Top of the Pops', and are currently at 1978. Last week's program included this song. The caption claims it's from 'Top of the Pops', but it's actually from the Dutch equivalent, 'TopPop' (they're wearing the same outfits). The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread
HossC replied to Meadowmufn's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Trivia
Sorry Roger, I did the screengrabs and forgot to answer the questions . I agree with the first two of Roth's answers: What did Rosco do with the bicycle he commandeered from the little boy after he finished riding it? shot it What was Boss's deceased uncle's name in this episode? C) Jefferson It ages since I've seen the final season, so I'm gonna have to guess the last one: When the bad guys kidnapped Daisy toward the end, where did they say they were taking her? Capitol City- 3,828 replies

There's a better picture of that house in the Hazzard Square thread, showing how it appeared in 'Gilmore Girls' - see it here (second picture). The window in question is the one just above the "Antiques" sign. IMDb lists his name as "Thomas S. Wopat". Then I found a site that listed his full name as "Thomas Stephen Wopat", but it looks like they misspelled his middle name, and it should be "Thomas Steven Wopat". The New York Times have it spelled that way in this listing.

I've just watched a comedy quiz show about the '80s, and the following commercial for Yellow Pages was the subject of one of the questions. It features an old man searching book stores for a copy of "Fly Fishing by J. R. Hartley". The commercial proved to be so popular that someone actually wrote a fishing book under the pseudonym of J. R. Hartley, and it became a bestseller. Watch all of it so you don't miss the twist at the end!

The Jeff Altman picture looks like it was taken during the filming of 'The Revenge of Hughie Hogg', although I'm not sure of the location. The Hazzard Picture Palace had red curtains, but that's only a guess. I think the Daisy picture was taken outside the house to the left of Boss's house, which was used as a boarding house in 'Enos's Last Chance'. The more usual boarding house was directly opposite.

I was referring to my song being from the '80s, and older songs are fine with me. BTW. the Jason Aldean video isn't available here. Let's go back to some music written in the mid 19th century as part of 'Die Walküre'. It's been used in many movies - 'Apocalypse Now' and 'The Blues Brothers' spring to mind. Ride of the Valkyries - Wagner

It was the '80s - enough said . Swords of a Thousand Men - Tenpole Tudor The top YouTube comment is "Love this song it makes me want get my longsword from under the stairs and invade France".

I haven't added to this thread for a while, but the comparisons continue. This week I knew the first version pretty well - it's a soul classic: On Broadway - The Drifters The competition was provided by a relatively unknown British singer who I only heard about fairly recently. It's a stripped back, more jazzier version, but I think it's great. It also won the public vote. On Broadway - Jess Roden (ignore the video - this one has the best sound quality) I still enjoy discovering "new" music, even if it is from 1974

I think you've been caught out by those pesky Canadians again . The information is in English and French (see "Pieces/Pièces" at the top). It just happens that the title of this jigsaw is the same in both languages (try saying the second one with a French accent ). It makes more sense with the one below: There are Coca-Cola signs on either side of the main sign, so it can't have been on Dukes. There also seems to be a picture of Flash on the window next to Rick. This made me curious, so after a bit of Googling, I found this in an article about Hazard, KY: Nestled in a wooded valley in the heart of Appalachian coal country, tiny (pop. 5,500) Hazard, Ky. hardly seems the kind of place whose "Black Gold Festival" would attract some 80,000 people from as far away as Chicago and Florida and cause traffic jams three miles long. Capitalizing on the name similarity, they invited the stars of CBS's smash The Dukes of Hazzard to participate. Nobody noticed the absence of "Duke" boys Tom Wopat and John Schneider, because Catherine (Daisy) Bach, Sorrell (Boss Hogg) Booke, Rick (Cletus) Hurst and James (Sheriff Rosco) Best enthusiastically winged in. ... So far, the TV show's impact on Hazard is best represented by the local pool hall, which was rechristened "Boss Hogg's Place" 18 months ago and decorated with life-size drawings of Boss and Rosco. "Business went up 40 percent right away," reports owner Reenie Feltner. Entering for the first time, Booke proclaimed, "Seems like a place befitting my style." You can see the whole article here. When I went looking for pictures, I came across this great video of the event. I think you're gonna like it .

The Official Dukes of Hazzard Trivia Thread
HossC replied to Meadowmufn's topic in Dukes of Hazzard Trivia
I tried, Roger. Here's a couple of screengrabs where I've played with the contrast in the hope of making the text clearer. I'm sure the third line says "Hazzard", and the second line looks like "RT 24", but I can't make out any more, other than the first word possibly being "Jesse".- 3,828 replies

There's another British cookery show I watch called Saturday Kitchen. Each week the host, chef James Martin, is joined by two top chefs who cook a dish each. There's also a celebrity guest who gets to eat their "food heaven" or "food hell" depending on the votes of callers. Another regular feature in the Omelette Challenge where the guest chefs have to cook a three-egg omelette in the quickest time. Here's the first ever Omelette Challenge featuring Irish chef Paul Rankin and Italian chef Antonio Carluccio (other regular Italian chefs include Aldo Zilli, Gennaro Contaldo and Gino D'Acampo). It's fun to see which of the chefs, some of them with more than one Michelin star, have been practising - most take it really seriously. The current record is around 17 seconds, although some chefs aren't so rushed. In the video below, American chef Thomas Keller takes a more leisurely approach. The celebrity guest in the video above (the bald guy with glasses) is British comedian/actor/musician Ade Edmondson, who won the last series of Celebrity Masterchef a couple of weeks ago.

It's a picture from 16 Magazine, which, according to its Wikipedia page, was a celebrity magazine aimed at nine- to 12-year-old girls. I couldn't find an issue late enough to have included Chris and Byron, but here's two covers from Dukes related issues (neither had inside pages available): Ebay Here's an inside page from the June 1982 issue which had Scott Baio on the cover: Ebay
